Balboa Island in Newport Beach Balboa Island in Newport Beach consists of three islands – the main island, the little island and Collins Island. Collins Island has only 8 homes that are located on it. The Grand Canal is the Canal located between the main island and the little island and there are homes that are on the water there as well. The boats in front of these homes are smaller due to the tide. A little history about Balboa Island includes the following: In 1908, William Collins, who was from Pasadena in California began dredging a channel on the north side of Newport Bay and deposited the sand on the tide lands. As a result of the sand and silt piling up, that was the beginning of Balboa Island.   The main island of Balboa Island has approximately 1459 home sites. There is a main...

Pelicans in Newport Beach I bet you thought by the title of this post, I would be writing about a neighborhood in Newport Beach. There are neighborhoods in Newport Coast that utilize the word Pelican – Pelican Hill and Pelican Crest. I was on the Newport Beach Pier in Newport Beach today. The Tsunami Advisory was issued in Newport Beach today, and we walked to the end of the pier. Sitting atop one of the structures were several Pelicans. And they were incredibly tame. In fact, it almost appeared as though they were posing for the camera. Others were taking photos as well, and they even walked towards the people. Typically, there are a number of anglers on the pier, so I am sure that why they are so docile – hoping for some fish. Buddies! The pelicans were stretching and opening their be...

Tsunami Advisory in Newport Beach – February 27, 2010 As a result of an 8.8 magnitude earthquake which shook Chile, Tsunami warnings  were issued throughout the Pacific including the Hawaiian Islands, the entire West Coast. The city of Newport Beach because of a Tsunami advisory were ordering people off the beach, and were preparing for the possibility of a tidal surge surge in the Newport Beach area. I received a telephone call at my home from the City of Newport Beach Police Department stating that there had been an earthquake in Chile in the early hours, and there was a tsunami advisory , and it warned residents to stay off the beaches, and low lying areas in the event of a tidal surge. They were not ordering evacuation. At the Newport Beach Pier, Lifeguards had prepared by parking ...

Spring is Coming in Newport Beach I was out previewing homes in Dover Shores in Newport Beach last week, and the sun was shining, and there was a beautiful garden out in front of a home that I wanted to capture. I thought the flowers were so beautiful, that I wanted to share them. Despite all the weather that we have had here in the Newport Beach area, and across the country, I thought I would share some beautiful spring time flowers. And we are looking at some more rain this weekend, and the East Coast is getting pounded with storms and snow!  The photo below is one of my favorites, there is so much detail on this flower. This flower is truly nature’s perfection. If I can answer any questions about the Newport Beach area, or homes for sale in the Newport Beach area,  please contact me....

Winter in Newport Beach It was a beautiful day in Newport Beach yesterday. It rained on Friday, and it c;eared up on Saturday. As I was driving down Superior Boulevard in Newport Beach, the view of the ocean was beautiful. The sun was reflecting on the ocean, and there was a clear view of Catalina Island in the distance. There were some sail boats in the distance enjoying the weather. There was a great view of Newport Harbor also. There was a beautiful sunset so we drove down by the Newport Pier to take it in. Another beautiful day in Newport Beach. The homes in the Castaways were built by Taylor Woodrow in 1997 and 1998. The Castaways in Newport Beach has 119 homes, and the architecture homes are a Cape Cod style. Here Today – Gone Tomorrow! Are you considering building a new home in Newport Beach? This property at 801 West Bay in Newport Beach was demolished this morning in preparation for building a new home which will have a view of Newport Harbor. Here today, gone tomorrow! With plans for a new home to be built.  The demolition was completed this morning by Tight Quarters in Santa Ana - and "Tight Quarters" it really is an appropriate name for the company - they operate in tight quarters indeed. The fact that the houses have a three foot set back on this area of the Balboa Peninsula, and the operator of the back-hoe was very skilled how he took the home down. Tight Quarters sprayed water on the site to minimize the dust from the demolition. This is a view of the progress as the home was taken...
