It's truly incredible to think that twelve years have passed since the day Handsome Hudson was born! I can still vividly recall how he patiently waited to make his entrance into the world until Geno and I returned from our Mediterranean vacation. It was an exhilarating and unforgettable time for our family!I have to credit Sharon Tara for inspiring me to create collages for my grandchildren. I cherished her collages so much that I began crafting them for Hudson when he turned four. I took the time to go back to earlier photos and created a collage for the first three years so we would have one for every year! It's a delightful experience to revisit these memories each year. Witnessing the incredible changes over the years has been nothing short of amazing, and I know many of you have joi...

Awake with about 2 hours of sleep in the tank ,  I am focusing on being thankful, namely:1  My loving family2  My nice home3  My awesome and fun pets  (I have 3 cats)4  Plenty of food and water5  My career6  Being alive !7  New friendships8  New business opportunities9  The Phillies and The Eagles  10  Living in South Jersey near Philly  (Been here 31+ years and love it) I have faith that doctors will help me get this sleeping / breathing thing fixed.  Is it covid related?  That would be a relief if that's what it was.  Tired of feeling like a zombie,  hence the focus on the thankfulness.  Appreciate your good health, friends.  We take it for granted sometimes.  Ironic that this is in the "Just For Fun" category.

Hug and High 5 Day and Back at ‘Ya Perhaps it’s a bit apropos that Hug and High 5 Day is the day after September 11. It was started by David Hale Sylvester who lost a good friend on that day in 2001.  After that day and suffering the loss he and others had, he found solace in “traveling the world and giving out high fives and hugs.” In 2020, he began a journey to do a good deed in each of our states. We all know the feeling we get when we’re on the receiving end of a hug or high five. We also know the joy that stays with us when we hug someone. Of course, there are the health benefits from hugging that we know about. The connection we have from a real hug or high five, ie social touch,  cannot be overlooked. Studies found that this “touch starvation” as a result of the 2020 imposed isol...

I was listening to something today and one of the points made was this question. Are you afraid or excited? It seems the two are very similar in how your body reacts. When change comes into our lives we can be afraid or we can be excited. When we decide to adapt a new hobby we can be afraid we will make a fool of ourselves, or excited about learning and enjoying something new. When we decide to accept a challenge we can be afraid at failing or excited to take part and achieve far more than we thought we could.I remember I had wanted to run a marathon for the longest time. But, frankly, I do not have a runners body, and running any distance was not my favourite thing to do. But after being alive and thinking about this for 39 years I decided I would run a marathon. I was worried I would n...

"When in doubt, throw doubt out and have faith." - E.A. BucchianeriYesterday, I found myself on the first tee box at Three Lakes Golf Course, getting ready to play in the semi-final match for the 2024 Ladies Club Championship.  Let me set the stage for this match-up:I am 72 years old, and my opponent is 44. She is not only younger than I am, she has a handicap of 10, which is way lower than mine (21 now).  For you non-golfers who have no clue what those handicap numbers mean, it means she consistently posts scores about 11 strokes lower than I do.I was a pretty good golfer in my younger years. I'm still decent for my age and considering my back issues. Honestly, I'm just happy to still be able to golf. There was a time when I had doubts that I'd ever golf again. I was prepared to start ...

Human beings are quite interesting creatures as captured in these words by Johann Georg Von Zimmermann:“Half our life is spent trying to find something to do with the time we have rushed through life trying to save.”Ever have someone speed by you in a hurry and then both of you end up at the stop light at the same time?Time is a constant.  There are 24 hours in every day, 1440 minutes and 86,400 seconds. Once a second, minute or hour passes, that time cannot be recovered.Time management is an oxymoron as time being a constant cannot be managed. Old Ben Franklin who also was a philosopher in his own right understood this concept that time is a constant.“Lost time is never found again.”William Penn shared Franklin’s viewpoint from a somewhat different perspective.“Time is what we want mos...

Not the day I planned for! I was proud as a peacock. Found the bus I needed, gonna save parking money, tolls, gas, wear and tear on the car. Got on it easy. Made my way to the The Greater Seattle Business Association (the GSBA) Economic Development Conference, hosted by Amazon this year, a new venue for me - fun!!! And guess who forgot her driver's license at home precisely because she wasn't driving. SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.And then it got even weirder. A family member was visiting friends on Bainbridge Island. And had to leave unexpectedly early. So how in the Multiverse was the timing perfect for me to hitch a ride home with him as he left the ferry, and he needed to stop at my place anyway? SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS...

Finding Your Dream Home…Down the Proverbial Rabbit Hole As real estate buyers, we often find ourselves chasing the perfect home—going down the proverbial rabbit hole of endless listings and possibilities. Whether you're looking for that charming cottage in the woods or, like me, that dream, beachfront escape, the search can sometimes feel like a rabbit hole journey that never ends.Personally, I’ve spent countless hours hunting for the ideal modern, oceanfront property. There’s something magical about a house with massive windows that let in the sunlight and a sprawling deck that seems to float over the sea. Yet, I often joke that I’ve gone "down the rabbit hole," sifting through homes that don't quite fit the bill. It’s easy to get lost in a home search, with so many options out there!B...

Migration Alert…Lights Off!Because of our interest in birds, Larry and I support the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.  Each year we receive Migration Alerts.  It asks residents to turn off non-essential lighting to help protect the migrating birds. Migration Alert for the night of 08 Sep 2024The BirdCast model predicts high-intensity bird migration over your region tonight. Large numbers of birds will be flying! To protect migratory birds in your area, BirdCast and partners recommend turning off all non-essential lighting between 11:00 PM tonight and 6:00 AM tomorrow morning: turn off or dim any non-essential exterior building lighting; close curtains or blinds to reduce the escape of interior lighting; and avoid illuminating lobbies, plants or fountains that may attract birds.  I have no id...

I have been typically writing my, "Saturday Soundness" series but as of late, I write them on the fly so this name may not always be fitting. This "soundness" post is featuring our friend, the sun! While this may seem to be a topic that we inherently know is a good thing, in the past 50 years, the opposite is true.Long before sunscreen was invented, people enjoyed and endured the sunshine that provides us with many health benefits. Our bodies were in fact, designed to soak in the sunshine. The natural sun provides us with the much-needed vitamin D that strengthens our bones, is a natural disinfectant, increases your immune response, and, can help you sleep.Mentally, the sunshine provides relief from depression, headaches, and malaise. If you are feeling grumpy, get outside and sit in th...

Yesterday was a beautiful September day in Flathead County, Montana. Sunny, dry, with a high around 80º. It was a perfect day to check out a new trail, Stovepipe Canyon Trail #196. If you're looking for a relatively short hike in the forests of Flathead County, this might be the place for you! Here are a few bits of information about doing so.Access to the trailhead:First, the directions provided by the Forest Service to get to the trailhead are as follows: Take Farm-to Market Road, turn onto Forest Service Rd 913 go 1 mile and turn on Forest Service Rd #2924 travel 3.5 miles and look for trailhead sign.OK, that sounds nice and simple, but here is some more information. First, Flathead Service Rd 913 is the same as Tally Lake Road so you'll be turning off Farm-to-Market Road onto Tally ...

The beginning......The annual White County Fair Parade was Saturday morning, September 7 at 11:00 a.m. Crowded? YES!  Folks in White County love that parade that circles the courthouse and travels down East Race in Searcy AR.  I was there along with blog-buddy, Anita Hart Fuller and my daughter, Valerie Smith Canepa.  Anita's good buddy, named Buddy Phillips, was honored to be Grand Marshall of this year's parade. He retired in 2010 after serving 45 years on the board and is now an Emeritus Board Member.  Anita had made a special trip just to see him in the parade because they graduated together in 1954 and have been great buddies through the years. SO.....The parade comes happily and noisily along!  There's Buddy in his fancy vehicle when his admired fan ran into the parade to greet hi...
