It sure seems like a L O N G  time ago I started talking about moving to Portugal, and today, here we are today!SO much to do to immigrate the right way, and not be an illegal alien.   It isn't cheap either to get this done, so it is best if you KNOW for sure you want to do this!Meeting with best friends over the last few days is hard, as you know you won't see them for a while.  Although, one is taking a cruise and docks in Lisbon next May.  I will miss seeing our glorious mountains, the weather (it was 85 today) and low humidity.BUT, I can only imagine all the destinations I will see for the first time.   Today my friend asked me what the first thing will be when I get to Quarteira - I want to walk the beach!   Sure hope the kitties will be good with 11 hours+ in their kitty carriers....

This post is actually about fences.Yesterday's post was about humans eating bugs. Today I'm talking about dogs and guinea pigs.I am pretty sure that most dogs would make a meal out of a guinea pig if one was set before them.If we still had a guinea pig they would not find much comfort in our chain link fence. That being said we did lose a guinea pig for about 48 hours who escaped it's little outdoor pen and hid next to a grapevine covered chain link fence. So this blog is actually a blog about fences.Let me tell you about our neighbors chain link fence. Between their home and ours is a professionally installed chain link fence. The rest of the backyard is a Hodge Podge of 3' wire fencing that includes a few wood pallets to fill in troublesome gaps. That mix was good for their old bull dog...

Hard to believe that Mothers' Day is upon us.  I read today that 75% of children prefer to TEXT Mom instead of calling her!!!  I am pretty certain that nearly 100% of Moms prefer (in order) a) SEEING YOU, b) receiveing a thoughful gift/memory, c) receiving a CALL!!!My mom (in Heaven) definielty would not appreciate a text....I realize that many of utilize text as a prefered method of communication, but c'mon...Moms desercve more!!One of my staff members spent hours putting together a virtual card that listed many of his great memories that were spent with his Mom. Apparently, she had tears in her eyes while reading it - especially since he and his mom have had some struggles with each other lately. So, put the phones down...visit Mom if practical or at least have a form of personal cont...

Motivational Monday…Acceptance Years ago, a friend was going through a difficult time in her personal life. I spent many late nights on the phone and countless hours in person being her shoulder to cry on.  After months (and months), it occurred to me that unless and until she accepted what was, she was never going to move on with the rest of her life. She was stuck! She wasn’t alone. Reality can be a tough pill to swallow for many of us at different times in our lives. And yet, if we aren’t willing or able to accept the change in our lives, we become like an anchor to the one thing we can control…US!  Being willing to accept the new NOW, doesn’t mean we approve of it, or that we’re giving up. It means that we’re acknowledging the change and are moving forward. If you are going through...

In order to take pets on a plane to a foreign country, you are required to have a Vet send in a Health Certificate to the USDA in Washington State.    I took Izzi & Lucy in this past Tuesday (must be done within ten days of flight), and the Vet emailed it to the USDA. They need to verify all info is correct, then sign off.  They must Fed Ex the form back to me and my flight info (date) was on the form. The vet called Saturday and said my form was STILL PENDING, which means it has not been sent to me yet and asked what time my flight is.   I do need to leave for the airport around 12:30, so HOPE this form comes in Tuesday morning!Otherwise, I don't have a Plan B.Not sure when I could get another flight with two seats together, and my hotel outside Lisbon is non-refundable, as well as my 3...

Every year we celebrate Mother’s Day on Second Sunday in May. This year we celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday May 10, 2026.There is no clear data of when, where, and how Mother’s Day originated. Some historians claim Mother’s Day originated during Greek Spring Festivals for the mother of deities, Rhea. Romans celebrated their Great Mother of Gods, Cybele. Later, for a period of time people celebrated Mother’s Day the fourth Sunday in Lent to honor Mary, mother of Jesus Christ. In United States, around 1850s Ann Jarvis an Appalachian woman, organized "Mother's Work Day" to raise awareness for mothers working in very bad health conditions in the communities. In 1914 Woodrow Wilson signed into law Mother's Day a national holiday, and this year we celebrate the 111 years birthday of Mother's D...

Happy Mother's Day!Happy Mother's Day to all of the mothers reading this message. Have a very special day as we recall the fond memories of our mothers.Mother’s Day in the United States traces back to the early 20th century, when Anna Jarvis successfully campaigned to establish a national holiday honoring mothers and their influence. Officially recognized in 1914, the day was intended as a meaningful, personal tribute—something simple and heartfelt. While that history reminds us of the care behind the holiday, it’s also important to recognize that “mothering” shows up in many forms. This weekend is also a chance to appreciate those who step into that role—grandparents, aunts, mentors, friends, and caregivers who provide steady support and guidance, even if they don’t carry the title of “...

Nerdin Gardens: A Resolute Commitment Clematis flowers carry a resilient vibrancy year after year. While not as overtly romantic like roses, they still relay love, devotion, commitment and feel meaningful. A heart-shaped bouquet shows off those vibrant purple blooms.  The Clematis plant’s ability to climb, twist and attach itself effortlessly to walls, trellises, fences represents acute agility, adding problem-solving and artistic talent on top of physical beauty. Kinda clingy, like me! To My Honey, that is. Viney tendrils continuously reach out for support, much like people in relationships who have formed strong attachments. To me, the Clematis expresses a resolute commitment, deep affection and enduring connection.  You may wonder how I know.Because I said so! Tie in to the industry:...

I have always loved the taste of fresh lemon. In my water, my tea, and even squeezed onto fresh salads and veggies. But the medicinal values that lemons provide are exceptional. Check out these added bonuses to your health that can be derived from the lovely lemon:🍋 DIGESTION - Fresh lemon juice is an excellent benefit for your digestive system. A great way to start your day is with a cup of warm water with freshly squeezed lemon. I add a shot of Olive Oil. It has been a busy week - selling my house and my car, a "going away/retirement/birthday" party with friends, and my official birthday yesterday.  WHEW!   THANK YOU for so many of you that took time to comment on my Facebook page, here in the Q & A, text, send an ecard or call me.   It all meant so much to me.I was able to get up to Fort Collins to see my adopted mom Virginia, as she now has pancreatic cancer, and has spread to her liver.   She isn't doing that well, but was able to talk with her for a couple of hours.Still have to get to TMobile so the new SIM card that will be my phone service in Portugal can be added to my phone.  Also, get back to the bank on Monday to wire money to my Portuguese bank.   Last couple of things, repack my bags, and ready to take-off on Tuesday.  It us...

This Week…Sock It To Me! Lately, I’ve been revisiting recipes that we used to make.  The Sock It To Me cake was popular in the early 70s and a go-to dessert for me. If you remember Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In, then you’re familiar with the phrase “sock it to me.” The cake, introduced by Duncan Hines, used their Classic Butter Cake Mix. Perfect way to sell your produce!!!                                             Sock-It-To-Me Cake 1 pkg Duncan Hines Butter Recipe Golden Cake mix1 c. (8 oz) dairy sour cream½ c. How Raleigh played a part in the how Mother's Day got it start!Mother’s Day is a time to slow down and reflect on the women who shaped our lives with love, patience and strength. It is a day filled with lunch, flowers, candy, phone calls and quiet moments of gratitude. But behind the celebration is a story that reaches deeper than many people realize. The holiday traces back to the early 1900s, when Anna Jarvis from Grafton, WV worked to create a national day to honor mothers. Her vision was simple. She wanted a day that recognized the personal sacrifices and unconditional love that mothers give every day. Alongside her efforts was Madeline Jane Jones Procter from Raleigh, NC, who supported the movement and shared in the mission to give mothers the recognition they deserved.Read More Her...
