Origins of April Fools' Day Some historians speculate that April Fools’ Day dates back to 1582, when France switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar, as called for by the Council of Trent in 1563. In the Julian Calendar, as in the Hindu calendar, the new year began with the spring equinox around April 1.  People who were slow to get the news or failed to recognize that the start of the new year had moved to January 1 and continued to celebrate it during the last week of March through April 1 became the butt of jokes and hoaxes and were called “April fools.” These pranks included having paper fish placed on their backs and being referred to as “poisson d’avril” (April fish), said to symbolize a young, easily caught fish and a gullible person. Furry Friends Friday - Maddy Loves Her Ride! The mornings begin with a ride from the bedroom through the foyer and back - stopping along the way to admire herself in the mirror, greet each kitty (she's now on their level) and letting everyone know, SHE is the special one! The evening ride is from the fire-pit, watching the sunset touring the house again.  The personality of this dog is simply boundless - and we love the smiles she puts on our faces & hearts.Happy Furry Friends Friday! © Debe Maxwell, CRS | The Maxwell House Group | Savvy + Company | SavvyBroker@me.com | Furry Friends Friday - Maddy Loves Her Ride!

I think most, if not all of us, are familiar with the story of Narcissus in Greek mythology. Narcissus rejected all romantic advances, eventually falling in love with his own reflection in a pool of water, staring at it for the remainder of his life.I am writing this post just for fun because of Timmothy's cartoon. I am happy to say that I do not identify any one on AR as chip off of the old Narcissus. One may think that when you see blog responses with their own listings pictured but I just write that off to marketing (annoying but understandable). Now that being said there are a few agents in real life, at least in my market who are real primadonnas.

I recently found an online directory of Kalispell City ordinances and thought it’d be intriguing to see what some of the ordinances of the past were. If I can find enough interesting material, I hope to share one ordinance from each year. This week's post will cover a Kalispell ordinance I found from 1911 about hoses. Ordinance #234 approved in July 1911 indicated that no one was allowed to ride, drive an automobile or any other vehicle across or onto any hose that is lying on any street in the City of Kalispell unless there was a frame over the hose. Anyone who violated this rule was going to receive a fine of up to $300 and/or go to jail for up to 90 days. What? If you drive over a hose you have to pay 1/4 or 1/2 of your annual salary in fines? We have all driven over hoses at one tim...

The last few years have changed the way people use their homes. More people working and schooling from home are looking for spaces with more privacy. But if time has taught us anything, home trends are cyclical. Now I want to know how you feel about open floor plans: smash or pass? #thehelpfulagent #home #house #houseexpert #listreports #homedesign #homestyle #hometrends #realestate #realestateagent #realtor #smashorpass

Just as all of us have over reacted to others at times I'm sure we can all remember times when someone has over reacted to a comment or action we initiated. We watch a lot of comedies at our house and over reactions are a lot of fun when you are watching them on television. An over reaction can bring out a lot of stress to all parties involved. As professionals we need to be on guard to making and over reacting to others over reactions. An over reaction on the job is never comedic or called for.Real Estate is a profession for the "cool headed" professional. Hot headed people need not apply. If you are a new licencee and you have a bit of a tempter I'd advice you to start getting counseling in people skills and anger management before you end up in front of your State Board or in a legal ...

Friday Fun…Oh, You Just Painted Your House? While going through old client photos, I came across one that made me smile and chuckle.  This couple was one of my favorites. They listened with an open mind to my suggestions and were just a lot of fun.  It was the holiday season and every inch was decorated to celebrate the season…even the shower curtain in the hall bath. Besides editing and addressing other minor issues, I felt that the baby blue color on the exterior and interior could be a distraction.Had the home been on the water in the Keys, for example,  instead of a quiet residential community, it would have been a better fit.  However, when I suggested painting the interior and exterior here was their reply…“Oh no…we just painted our home in anticipation of selling it.” OOPS  All 3...
