Wordless Wednesday ~ The Standoff ~ I know it is Wordless Wednesday but you have to realize I saw this cool crab from quite a distance while walking on Sunset Beach during low tide. He never moved the entire time I was walking towards him. Naturally, I thought he was a either sleeping or you know (a goner)...   So as I advanced on him/her, I expected him/her to take off, but he/she didn’t!! I decided to have a conversation with him or is it a her?  It was amazing!! The cool crab never moved and allowed me to take it’s picture while telling him/her what a cool crab he/she was!!  Decided to get a little closer and it took off for the dunes....

Saturday Silly From the Sunset Beach Team BAGPIPER AT THE FUNERAL...As a bagpiper, I play many gigs. Recently I was asked by a funeral directorto play at a graveside service for a homeless man. He had no family orfriends, so the service was to be at a pauper's cemetery in the Kentuckyback country. As I was not familiar with the backwoods, I got lost and, being atypical man, I didn't stop for directions.I finally arrived an hour late and saw the funeral guy had evidentlygone and the hearse was nowhere in sight. There were only the diggersand crew left and they were eating lunch.I felt badly and apologized to the men for being late. I went to theside of the grave and looked down and the vault lid was already inplace. I didn't know what else to do, so I started to play. The workers put d...

FRIDAY FUNNY ~ NEW TECHNOLOGY ~ A fifteen year old Amish boy and his father went to a mall in Myrtle Beach South Carolina for the first time. They were amazed by almost everything they saw, but especially by two shiny,  silver walls that could move apart and then slide back together again. The boy asked, 'What is this Father?'The father (never having seen an elevator) responded, 'Son, I have never seen anything like this in my life, I don't know what it is.'    While the boy and his father were watching with amazement, a fat older woman in a wheel chair moved up to the moving walls and pressed a  button. The walls opened, and the lady rolled between them into a  small room. The walls closed and the boy and his father watched the small numbers above the walls light up sequentially. Th...

Kindergarten and my first real spankingGrowing up in the 1950’s was full of music in my house. My mom always had the radio on or her Hi Fi  on playing records, you know the 45’s that were popular. We were always dancing to whatever music was playing. My first day of kindergarten was not something terrible. My Mom told me who my teacher was, told me to stand on her line, called me “Karen Ann”, snapped my picture and off I went into the classroom.   What I do recall was being all the way in the back of the classroom because my last name began with a “W”. There was no sitting next to your friend, it was all about sitting in alphabetical order. This was something I learned to despise over the years. I never was able to sit in the front of the room.Oh, how I wished my last name began with an...

Reflections of Hurricane Irene in Sunset Beach, NC Last night we encountered the most beautiful sky as the evening approached. I stood outside staring and reflecting in wonderment, how only a few hours ago the appearance was so contrasting. Life, as we know it, moves so swiftly by us. Was Hurricane Irene an awakening for some, a reminder... Are we embracing life or just living it day by day?

Sunset Beach, NC  “Where is our BOAT RAMP”Four years have gone by and the town of Sunset Beach, NC is still without a boat ramp. An informal boat launch on the island causeway was closed in June 2008 to make way for the new $44 million high-rise bridge that opened in November, 2010. At a recent town meeting, Sunset Beach Town Administrator Gary Parker “guesstimates” the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is “poised” to start construction of the planned waterway facility located across the street from Twin Lakes Restaurant later this year. Projected completion will be next summer, 2012.   During the August 1st Sunset Beach Town Council meeting an agreement was approved with the Wildlife Resources Commission to develop the 1.2 acre site as a public boat launching facility and pu...

The Power of Believing in One's  Friends *HUMOR* ************************************************************ A contestant,  Sally  on 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire?' had reached the final plateau. If she answered the  next question correctly, she would win $1,000,000. If she answered  incorrectly, she would pocket only the $25,000 milestone money. Bounce This Along  U.S. Postal service sent out a message to all letter carriers to put a sheet of Bounce in their uniform pockets to keep yellow-jackets away. Use them all the time when playing baseball and soccer. We use it when we are working outside.. It really works. The insects just veer around us while doing our yardwork in our Sunset Beach Home. All this time you've just been putting Bounce in the dryer! 1. It will chase ants away when you lay a sheet near them.. It also repels mice. 2. Spread sheets around foundation areas, or in trailers, or cars that are sitting and it keeps mice from entering your vehicle. 3. It takes the odor out of books and photo albums that don't get opened too often.  4. It repels mosquitoes. Tie a sheet of Bounce through a belt loop when outdoors durin...
