I'm surprised you need to ask. They are pretty self-explanatory. And that's not even getting into the fact that if you are in an agency relationship it's the law.

It is what protects the client.

Fiduciary duties are important to your client because it is an ethical and legally binding promise to represent their best interests.  Examples of representing your clients' best interests are: (1) not disclosing how much a seller would be willing to reduce their price, or how much a buyer would be willing to pay over list price (2) disclosing any and all information gleaned from other sources (maybe the other agent in a deal) to your client that could give them an advantage in negotiations.  (3) Let's say you are representing a buyer client who is also physically challenged and you knew of 2 homes that were within your client's budget and similarly priced...however, one of them would not require any retrofitting or modifications for wheelchair access and the other would.  The one requiring modifications is paying a higher commission...your fiduciary duties dictate that you must show both in the best interest of your client.
