It all goes back 30+ years -- so there is a lot to know, learn and recall fondly for those who were there from the get. Just like Bowie. Whole new awakening for many. And yes, that is the beauty of music.

I never was a fan of "the artist formerely known as prince" or what ever he called himself at the end.

But, to each his own is my motto.

Good morning Tony. I never worry about everyone is thinking or saying, I'm only responsible for what I say and do.

I am not a Prince fan - although I am certainly sorry he died.

I wasn't a big Prince fan when I was young but his songs are classics now and he was incredibly talented.

Never a fan, I do believe he was a great contributor to music!

Have to wonder about people some time.

     Not a fan, although I am familiar with his music.  Who could forget lyrics like, "Tonight we're gonna party like it's 1999!".

     I am truly sorry that someone who had so much to offer, was taken down by drugs.  It is tragic.  

      Rest in peace, Prince Rogers Nelson.

There will always be elitists in every crowd, dont let it get you down Tony.

Jerks have to be jerks and feel superior.  Same thing happens when the local sports team does well and all the "fair weather fans" come out and jump on the bandwagon.

I was not a fan, and don't intend to try to claim to be one.

He was a great artist and will be missed.

Variety is the spice of life in music too!

Prince was a very talented musician, and I think his early death is a loss.

We cannot fix the human condition.  There is so much about people that I just do not understand and cannot relate to. I leave them to their stuff and focus on what matters and what is important to me - how and where I can make a difference in the world. 

Do not worry about the thoughts and actions of others.

I agree with Joe Petrowsky .

I was never a Prince fan.  I have learned some impressive (and not so impressive) things about him since his passing.  I am sorry when anyone dies young.

Prince was a master of music.... if you know his background and all of his accomplishments, you'd be very impressed and very sad for the loss of this "Prince".... that was his real name and it fit so well!

They know no other way to express themselve's!

Stuff happens.  So do jerks.  Far too often.  

Never sought him out - but did enjoy what I heard when I heard it way back when...

I'm amazed at all the media.  Not a big Prince follower.  It's sad that he passed, I know he was very talented.  We have lost quite a few artist recently. 

I'm one of those people who hardly knew who Prince was and wouldn't recognize his music for love nor money. It's certainly a shame he died, but I'm not grieving.

I am sorry he died so young.

Fans are fans, most who listen at home or in the car. Death does not bring out new fans, but may get the old fans to dust off the cd. The media sees a story in broadcasting gatherings to honor them which bring out people who just want to be on tv. 

Identify the 'jerks' then the 'why' may be more relevant.

Isn't Prince the guy who changed is name to some unpronounceable sequence of letters compelling all reference to him to be  "the one formerly known as Prince?"
