There is no true, objective reporting in our world and few legitimate journalists. The opinionist's drive traffic to their media sites through salacious headlines pushing fear.
It's best to watch and pay attention to the local market, those that we typically follow and perform our own due diligence!

All news lags with misinformation and disinformation. They are nothing more than talking heads parroting whatever they read from the teleprompter which is nothing more and nothing less than what the powers that be want us to believe.
My market is showing signs of shifting from hot crazy.

Frankly I think the "news" drives panic and causes chaos in all segments of life including real estate.

When it comes to real estate, there is news and there are opinions. It is important to be able to tell the difference.
Based on the news, opinions are formulated and predictions are made.

Some of it is totally irrelevant and some interesting. Some is an educated guess and some is just click bait. You can't really put a lot of stock into what you read.

Sadly I think sometimes the "news" influences the real world real estate. They hear it until they believe it and then it happens.

The media lags TRUTH and REALITY by sometimes year(s) and we are seeing this a lot lately.
The days of Walter Cronkite and trusted journalism left the building in the 90s!

Media is NEVER corrrect.
They take National, state, region data and impose it on real estate and we all know real estate is LOCAL.
They leverage agenda driven organizations as the voice of authority but they are only voices of opinion.
And when a real estate agents appears on screen, they talk like a real estate agent leaving everyone none the wiser.
If the camera was in front of you, what would you say that has the 'shock' potential to awaken the viewer regarding 'real world real estate.'
I would share the cause of the housing crisis is existing single family home owners.
What would/could you have the courage to share that deviates from "Real Estate Agent -ese."

30 to 60 days from the real market to the news talking heads.
Every market is different - you can't give an overall 'country' report.

News of everything lags the real world. We hear about the shooting after someone was shot. We hear about the traffic problems after they have started. We hear about the local commission meeting after the meeting happened.
News reporters report news. Other than meteorology, they are not in the prediction business.

Real Estate invites opinions non-stop. The professional opinions from seasoned, in the trench's agents have credibility. Manipulators in high places love to play with Real Estate dynamics because it is lucrative if successful. This current Real Estate cycle is the first natural one we have had in decades as the previous ones were interfered with by acts of God and man. 1/3 of retired America is sitting on trillions of dollars of monster equity. Wealth will naturally shift during this time. Expect continued, profitable growth probably until next presidential elections (2 years)

When the media tells you, we will already be 6 months deep. Here in NH I am see some changes. The sheer total of buyers is down. No more are 40 offers on my new listings but 5-8 the first day. We still have a great deal of cash buyers looking to move to NH for no income or sales tax plus our good paying jobs.

3 months for sure these days, 6 months in the past. They also straight up get it wrong for panic value often. All real estate is local, the Crash truly emphasized that as I witnessed San Diego begin ours in late 2006, but CA at large never fully realized it until December 2007. My NorCal friends thought I was crying wolf, when in fact I was trying to be "Paul Revere".

In NYC, sales in contract are pretty close to real time. Closed sales are a different story. It often takes 4-6 months for closed sales to be recorded with the city from the point the apartment went into contract.

The only "news" that matters is the sales and activity in your area, in your neighborhoods. Alarmist news about sky-high prices in some big American city, or Janet Yellen will raise the interest rate, or builders are facing labor shortages, etc. etc. may or may not have anything to do with what's happening in your part of the world.

Each market is local and different. The statistics usually take 30 to 45 days to be published from the previous month in our market. The overall MSM seeks bad news for shock value and create a narrative nationwide.

I have to say it create my phone to ring by buyers about interest rates and when will they come down again. News effect the calls.

The expert in your market is you and if the news source taps you, the guy or gal in the real estate trenches, you get accurate local fresh pertinent reporting. If what is generalized for the country is applied as one big broad brush sum it up on every nook and cranny, no. You are not getting something useful fine tuned for where you list, twist and sell property on the blue green spinning marble Peter Mohylsky. BRIX REALTY .
I was news director in a Bangor ME broadcast outlet. It was not rip and read from the AP or UPI wire service. It was reach out to say a real estate broker, a bunch of them in the local market and sound bites from them... not the reporter trying to act like an expert. Talk, relay what the experts say and their is your new source and accuracy that removes the gloss over sounding like an authority. If you say all news journalist are talking heads, it is like all real estate agents/brokers are blah blah. No they are not.
