When I'm standing with a client on a typical Thursday, I always share with them my day off is Thursday. Then I wait.

If they make no response, I need to take note.

If they raise their eyebrows in recognition, I share, "If it is important I will do what ever is needed, whenever it must be done."

That accomplishes two very important things.

I share with every client I'm off on Sundays and I'm off the grid. (Same with vacations). Since I never start with a client without an orientation meeting, each client learns this as a matter of fact of my services at the onset. I have 1-2 per year out of 40 to 50 that see this as a problem (due to their day off being Sunday only, too) and I happily refer them to my buyers' agent who takes Fridays off instead. I keep my day off and 25%.

None of us work 24/7, even though some fool themselves into to thinking they do. I'm at my best 6am-6pm, then I'm done. There's the law of diminishing returns. Would you go to an eye surgeon at 6pm, that's 24/7?

FOCUS: (None of us multitask either, computers don't and it's humanly impossible for us to do it, even though some fool themselves on this too).

If you want to be balancing Personal Health, Business, Financial, Family & Spiritual, you need a day off. You owe yourself and your clients a day off. Again, I highly recommend BOUNDARIES by Dr. Henry Cloud.

I don't do this...take a regular day off. I do tell my clients that I prefer to have Sunday off...just like most people, but they can still leave a message on my phone for me.

I try to take time off when I can, no scheduled days off.  Though if I have plans for some future date, I will advise my clients.

Never tell the customer anything.  If you want to take off Tuesday just tell them you're with someone else or in "corporate meetings".

We're available to our clients all the time.  

A few months ago, we were taking a mini vacation in Cape May and visited their winery. We shared a bottle of wine on comfy couches and Wayne's phone rang. Not only did he take the call, he also helped the client and resolved the issue. There is no day off.

Having a regular day off is wishful thinking for many real estate professionals. When you are working with out of town clients, you need to be available when they are in town.
