Friendswood is known for its beautiful majestic trees that thrive along the many creeks winding throughout the town. One tree in Friendswood is well-known to locals…although most people have no idea why the tree is so special. The Liberty Tree is a very beautiful old tree that is located right in the middle of “old Friendswood”. There is a small sign alongside its trunk, identifying its name, but there is no information on the sign about the significance of the tree. There is a time capsule commemorating the bicentennial celebration of the United States right behind the tree…which is a clue as to how it became the Liberty Tree.
