I have been sleeping with my bedroom window open lately because the weather has been so beautiful. For the last couple of evenings there has been a magnificent fragrance wafting into my bedroom. I couldn't figure out where it was coming from, so, last night I went in search of the source. Well, believe it or not, my Ruby Red Grapefruit tree is in full bloom with these gorgeous, petite white flowers and THAT is where the amazing fragrance originated from! I had absolutely no idea that fruit trees produced any fragrance like that! My next surprise was the large number of bees that were busy flying around the tree and therefore pollinating the grapefruit! None of them were bothered with me being there and none of them were in the least bit aggressive. I also discovered that I had 1 very la...

I recently posted a blog regarding all the fruit trees that I recently planted. Well I am very happy to report that my mango trees are rocking it! My Kiett mango tree currently has over 100 baby mangos growing on it! Realistically, if we have any big storms, I could lose some of them, so I am hoping for smooth sailing going forward! The Kent has a ton of blooms and Carrie  got beat up pretty bad in a wind storm a couple of weeks ago and lost a bunch of blooms, but it is putting out a second bloom right now.Heres an update on the rest of the trees:I've gotten ONE Barbados Cherry  off of that tree, but there are a bunch of blooms so I think that it should produce well. The avocado trees are blooming like crazy so I am hopefully for a good crop this year. The Winter Mexican has grown probab...

You may remember that I recently blogged about all the fruit trees that I have been putting in my backyard. Well once the fruit trees were all settled, I turned my attention to my vegetable garden. In Colorado I am a prolific gardener. I can grow just about everything! Florida has been a different story for me. With all the sand beachside, I have not had the best of luck, sooooo...I enlisted the help of my wonderful friend and plant whisperer, Jeff, to help me. I had a piece of ground in my yard that has been just sitting there producing nothing. As of today, there are 3 raised beds with herbs and vegetables just waiting to pop up. The wood for the beds was salvaged from a seawall that was damaged in the recent hurricane in October. A discarded painting easel is now serving as a pyramid...

Those of you that know me, know how much I love my fur babies. I have both cats and dogs, and each has their own unique personality. Because I have multiple four legged terrorists that live with me I am not sure which one of the little critters ate my homework. That's right, ate my homework. I walked into my kitchen and my bag was on the floor and the yellow pad that I always work off of was on the floor and completely shredded. They all looked at me innocently. I have a four legged asshole living in my house.

My home is a 1962 vintage mid century modern located on the Barrier Isand of Florida's Space Coast. I was surprised that NO ONE  in the previous 50 years had done anything to the backyard. The only thing that was here was a sour orange tree used for Caribbean cooking. Well that has changed! Over the past couple of months I have put in 2 banana trees, 3 mango trees, 2 avocado trees, a Mauritius Lychee, a Barbados Cherry, a Fruit Cocktail and a Ruby Red Grapefruit.Today my irrigation man has been working on put a drip system in for all of my beloved fruit trees. I am so happy! If you are on the Space Coast of Florida and would like trees like mine, call me up. I would be happy to put you in touch with my tree man!

I must say it's kind of creepy sitting in a Orlando hotel room with your pets watching the TV for any sign that your home may get blown away. The fur babies slept peacefully as long as I was there with them. There was a curfew in Orlando so that wasn't really much of a problem. The weather service was calling the storm "catastrophic" so I was more than fine to stay put. By Friday most of the worst was over. The barrier islands had been under a mandatory evacuation order, and in order to save the infrastructure of the water system the water was turned off to the entire island. The causeways to and from the island were closed and we were told to wait until they were open to even consider coming back. Electricity was also spotty. It wasn't until Saturday that we ventured back from Orlando. ...

Hello Activerain Peeps. Well things down here in the path of Hurricane Matthew seem to be going from bad to worse. For starters, check out the creepy weather map to the right that is staring at us online!I made the decision to close the office until Monday. On my way home I stopped off at the local Winn Dixie for provisions. The water isle and the bread isle were pretty sparse. I did manage to score a loaf of bread and some peanut butter and jelly. That's all I need, plus food for the fur babies. The lines at the gas station were completely ridiculous, but after a very long wait, I was able to fill up my tank.                   Tonight we learned that there is a mandatory evacuation of the barrier island starting at 3:00pm tomorrow. I need to get the windows boarded up on the house tomo...

It almost seems surreal. The sky is blue, with puffy white clouds in the sky. It is a beautiful 86 degrees outside...nothing points to what is coming except for the migraine that tried to catch me earlier today. I always get migraines when there is a barometric change, and there was a big one today! That is the only thing that signals the storm to come, that and the massive crowds at the hardware store and grocery stores buying up every piece of plywood and bottles of water to be found!I have the plywood, but no one to help put it on the house. It seems you need 2 - 3 people for that. This is my fault for not having storm shutters installed when I bought the house. I guess that will have to be done this winter. They say that hindsite is 20/20. Truth. In the mean time, I've made reservati...

I have a dear friend who works full time as an RN and goes to school full time to become a Nurse Practitioner. She called me up a few weeks back sobbing because, between her school and work schedules she didn't feel she was giving an adequate amount of time and attention to her two Yorkie boys Leonidas (Leo) and Sampson (Sammy). I told her to bring the pups down to my house and they could stay with me until her schedule settles down a bit. Our dogs know each other, I have a big yard with a doggy door so there were no problems. She flew down with the boys last Thursday. Friday morning I went off to a morning inspection and then stopped back off at my house on the way to the office to check on the dogs. Everything was fine. When I got home after work on Friday evening Sammy was happy to se...

We had some pretty severe storms here recently. The rains were torrential with the remnants of Tropical Storm Colm...I didn't even have to put any water in my pool, the rain did it for me! But look at what we had at the end, a beautiful rainbow that stretched across the sky. You stack that on top of the ocean, and wow...PRETTY!

I saw one of the best movies I have been to in a long time last night. Me Before You, by Jojo Moyes. Me Before You, is the beautiful story of quirky Louisa Clark, (played by Emilia Clarke) a young woman who is hired to be a companion and caretaker for handsome Will Traynor (played by Sam Claflin) a quadriplegic man. Will was paralyzed after being hit by a motorcycle. Will was distant and withdrawn when Louisa comes into his life. Louisa is a breath of fresh air who draws Will out of his shell by engaging him in activities outside of the family home. As in most chic flicks, Louisa and Will fall in love with each other. The twist in this movie is that Will had decided to end his life because he could not accept his limitations, and, his love for Louisa does nothing to change that decision...
