One of my co-workers Sal Uccello in our IT Department will be one of the main stars in See Alice Run At The Little Theatre Of Manchester Evenings@7 On October 11th.   The Little Theatre Of Manchester Evenings@7 is located on 177 Hartford Road in Manchester, CT and the performance will take place in the Silk Room at Cheney Hall.See Alice Run is a colorful funny play about two very different brothers, Randy who is gay and Sherman who is the complete opposite.  Randy comes to the realizations that he and Sherman are the last two males in their family line, and one of them must have a child if the family name is to continue.  However, Randy is unable to produce children, so he talks Sherman into fathering a child.  But Sherman also has issues and needs medical assistance in order to produc...

Well, this is just wild.Tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 6:40am, I'll be live in NYC on Fox and Friends.  How'd this happen?  Simple.  The power of writing.Last week, I wrote a piece that was published on New Boston Post Media: An Open Letter to College Crybabies from a CEO.  (Check it out.  You'll either love it or hate it - there is NO in between).Within hours, it went viral.  Millions of views later, the phone call came in from Fox News. The message, ladies and gentlemen of ActiveRain, is simple.  Keep writing.  You never know when it's going to explode.

A few years ago, I was at a marketing strategy session with the owner of a restaurant group who is a client of ours.  He told me he wanted to run a special dinner where he taught his diners how to make his signature dishes. His manager looked at him like he was nuts. “Why the hell would you give away your secret recipe to everyone?” she asked. “It’s simple,” he said.  “Not everyone likes to cook.  And nobody does it as well as I do.” There was a tremendous lesson in this. A few weeks later, he saw the footage and pictures we shot at the event. “My God,” he said.  “That’s an incredible camera.” You’ve got to be kidding me.  He’s complimenting my gear? “Hey,” I said.  “Next time you cook a kick ass dish that you’ve slaved over for hours…I’ll point out what a great oven you have.” Talent. ...

In the world of real estate, there's a hell of a lot of noise.  Real estate agents try desperately to cut through that noise on social media.  One of the most common ways of doing it?  Tying in with a charitable cause. You see it all over the place "Keller Williams is proud to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month" and so on and so forth. The challenge is that for all of the good intentions, it's easy for your message to get lost in the noise of everyone talking. So how can you differentiate your company?  How do you cut through that noise on social media?Well, free beer tends to help.  Free beer and, of course, some creative marketing.Today is American Touch Tag day. Did you know that?  Yeah, neither did we.So when we heard about it, we figured we'd launch a fun little promotion on Facebo...

You need to start blogging on Facebook.  Because the social media giant is launching a subtle war on Medium and LinkedIn Pulse.  And if they make it sexy enough, they just might win.It all goes back to the roots of Facebook – a little tool called Facebook notes.  It’s a tab that all but disappeared in recent years.  So why would they resurrect it now?Simply put, Facebook is looking to create an entire ecosystem and keep you in it.  Don’t believe me?       Look at how Facebook has gone after YouTube with video integration.        Let’s not forget their purchase of Instagram.        Then, of course, we’re seeing them slowly start rolling out Facebook Live which takes aim at Meerkat and Periscope.       Facebook’s hashtagging for categorization steals the concept right from Twitter. We see...

If you’re like many people, you’re on LinkedIn because someone at some point told you that you had to be.  But are you taking advantage of the free tools that are available to help build your brand? One of the biggest missed opportunities is something that you may not have ever heard of.It’s called the Social Selling Index.  It’s powerful.  It’s analytical.  Oh, and did I mention it’s free?Let’s break this down.  To simplify it, I want you all to think of it not from a sales perspective – but from an equity perspective: social equity.  The higher your social equity and influence, the greater the likelihood of you securing business. The Social Selling Index can be tough to measure....which is why LinkedIn rolled out this tool.  It gives users a score out of 100 based on 4 categories:    ...

The movie “The Matrix” examined a concept that the world isn’t what we believe it is.  But what if I told you that the internet isn’t what you believe it is?   What if I told you that you only see the surface of the web…and that 96% of it is actually “dark”?  Would it surprise you?  Would it scare you?  Would you even care? You SHOULD care.  Because your marketing is no different.  Allow me to explain.I’m referring to the “dark web”.  The “dark web” makes up 96% of all content on the internet, but it cannot be indexed.  Which means you’ll never find it on Bing, Yahoo or of course Google.  So what is it?Depends on who you ask.  The media would have you believe that it’s where the vile of the earth resides, selling everything from cocaine to babies.  Many who use it suggest it’s the last h...

My wife and I like to do our shopping on the weekend.  For some reason, that whole "working" thing tends to get in the way during the week. That's why it blows my mind how many businesses have hours that aren't just consumer unfriendly...they're flat out stupid.Ok, ok, you started your own business because you wanted to determine your future.  Great.  But guess what?  The whole 9-5 schedule thing is going to put you out of business.  And if you're stubborn enough to think that as a business owner you can decide 9-5 will be your hours no matter what, then perhaps you deserve to go out of business.First example: two weeks ago, on a Sunday, my wife and I were shopping for a vanity bathroom.  We couldn't go into any stores.  Why?  They were all closed on Sundays.  So we started shopping arou...

Last weekend, my wife brought our family to a farm fair.  It was quintessential New England.  Cows.  Corn.  Arts and craft stands.I went up to one of the stands and ordered a medium sized bag of kettle corn. “That’ll be $7,” said the guy who handed me the bag.Seven bucks.  For a bag of popcorn.  Not like $7 is a big deal to me.  But man – this was a little farm stand.  It’s not like I was at the movies in NYC.Needless to say, the first couple of bites were a little salty to me…and it had nothing to do with the way the popcorn tasted.Seven.  Freaking.  Dollars.  For popcorn.“Honey, seven bucks!  Can you believe that?” I asked my wife. That’s when I saw an old man approach the stand.“How much for the kettle corn?” he asked.“$5 for the small.  $7 for the medium.  $9 for the large.”“Thank yo...

PrologueMy male friends strongly urged me not to share this article.  They suggested it was the equivalent of poking an angry mother bear.My female friends, on the other hand, were surprisingly in support of it.So with that said, I'd encourage you to read this and REALLY understand the message before yelling at me.Mommy BloggersA couple of months ago, a female friend approached me.  She's a stay at home mom with a couple of kids.  She's an absolutely spectacular human being.  Not to minimize her husband's hard work, but let's be honest - she's the one raising the family.  She's got my utmost respect. She asked me if I'd be interested in sponsoring her daily post.  She explained to me that she's a mommy blogger on the verge of making it big.  She asked me to dissect what she was doing and...

There are a lot of perks to running a corporation.  Dealing with lawyers?  That's NOT one of them.Don't get me wrong, all of the lawyers that we use are great.  They're wildly smart, incredibly knowledgeable and cool enough to join our management team for Happy Hour on a semi-regular basis. The problem is with their writing.  I'm constantly getting documents from them that I need to sign.  And I don't know what the HELL they are saying. It's not just the legal jargon.  It's the fact that the damn things are written in some kind of old English.  I have to hire a translator just to understand what I'm signing.Take, for example, this paragraph in a recent contract:Injunctive Relief. EMPLOYEE acknowledges and agrees that the remedies at law for any breach or threatened breach of any EMPLOYEE’...
