Luckily, they've been handled Roy; and your posting older news about them. We members get constant updates: software & info.
Zoom security have seriously stepped up and I've had to update my software almost daily in April to keep up with how much.
As a weekly user for almost 5 years, with no issues, and since COVID-19 I've stepped that up to 3-5 times per day the last 4 business weeks, with no issues.
Fools that publish their Zoom meeting links on social media will get hacked.
Closed membership groups and small group meetings; it's next to impossible to show up undetected. I see this as an issue caused by the rookies and the large groups vs. the experienced and the smaller meetings where attendance is manageable. But, Zoom responded immediately and with enhanced security measures and continues to step it up. Great to see them grow from this experience.
Selective meeting invitation: The host can selectively invite participants via email, IM, or SMS. This provides greater control over the distribution of the meeting access information. The host can also create the meeting to only allow members from a certain domain email to join.
Meeting Details Security: Zoom retains event details pertaining to a session for billing and reporting purposes. The event details are stored at the Zoom secured database and are available to the customer account administrator for review on the customer portal page once they have securely logged-on.
Application security: Zoom can encrypt all presentation content at the application layer using the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) 256-bit algorithm. Zoom client group policy controls: Specifically applicable to the Zoom Meetings client for Windows and Zoom Rooms for Windows, administrators can define a broad set of client configuration settings that are enforced through Active Directory group policy controls. E2E
Chat Encryption: Zoom E2E chat encryption allows for a secured communication where only the intended recipient can read the secured message.
Zoom uses public and private key to encrypt the chat session with Advanced Encryption Standard (AES-256). Session keys are generated with a device-unique hardware ID to avoid data being read from other devices.
This ensures that the session can not be eavesdropped on or tampered with.

So, this is my take on the fear-mongering that conspiracy theorists continue to tout...
#1 - ALWAYS seek the original source - not the 'reporting' source!
#2 - With anything 'Big Brother,' I tell everyone that I have nothing to hide and anyone can listen in to what I have to say any time!
#3 - If you've ever used Zoom, you know how easy it would be to control unwanted users (which is all the real FBI warning was about).
That said, these articles are sensationalizing the REAL FBI report. Their very simplistic warnings are because users of Zoom shared their dial-in information publicly or with someone who later has an ax to grind with someone on the call. It's quite harmless - but, not according to those sites that you shared. It is SO easy to disable an 'intruder' on a Zoom conference - I mean within seconds.
This is what is wrong with journalism these days - they embelish, they lie, they fabricate and they offer their OPINION. Journalism is dead in MHO!

I've read quite a bit about them and it sounds like some things have been addressed in terms of passwords and using the Waiting Room, among other matters. I imagine there is still some more to be done. I should check with a client of mine who works there.

Is there any technology tool we use that does not have some security issues? Everyone just has to decide for themselves whether the risks outweigh the rewards.

Zoom is always updating their software regarding security issues, especially these days when so many people are in a stay-at-home siruation nationwide. Thanks to Zoom, people can keep their sanity intact and stay in contact with their loved ones.

Roy Kelley Thanks for reminding us all to be vigilante. Update your software... all your latest versions is smarter than ever during the pandemic. Open mics, the camera never blinks and sees all is something to be aware of even without hacks. Live anything broadcast is not so predictable as pre-recorded! Facetime with the granddaughter I hope never gets curtailed. Send flowers... always look forward to your fresh cut or still on the stem digital flower arrangements.
