I thought it was even less than that . . . this cool timetable is a testimonial to the wonder of the human body's ability to heal itself if we just stay the hell outta the way.

I was a bad child and smoked in junior high, high school and first couple years of college. My sister gave me a Marlboro pack with joints (hey it was the 70s) and said smoke these instead  . . . after being stoned for a month, I was a non smoker. That was 42 years ago!


And I am a judgmental, disgusted, 'you suck' converted X smoker . . . keep that crap away from my hair, my clothes, my life!

BTW, among other things, COPD killed my husband. He rationalized that 'because it was just little cigars, it wouldn't hurt'. Do it so your loved ones don't lose you too young. 

Or don't. But stay the hell away from me! LOLLL

I imagine very few smokers did. Quitting any addiction for a day is nearly an impossible feat. 

I guess I participated because I did not smoke on Nov 21st.

I didn't know that....for me, it's been 24 years since I had a cigarette.... I was 2 packs a day..... I quit cold turkey!!!  went into withdrawal for a day....and then had a handheld game that I made a habit rather than smoking....and I used that game for about a month....then I was fine.... quit drinking too at the same time....you can't drink without smoking!!!!!

Since I've never smoked, I did not participate. I worked with a lady in NYC whose mother came down with and died from lung cancer some 35 years after quitting smoking.

I've never been a smoker. I know it is hard for people to quit. My mother quit about 25 years ago after about 25 years of smoking. I'm so proud of her!

I suppose I did participate, even though I don't smoke! 

I thought healing took place sooner than 30 years but, that's good to know, Michelle. When I was a nurse, I gave way too much chemo to patients with lung cancer - it's an absolutely horrible way to die. 

I liken it to drowning, being smothered/suffocated and standing on the edge of a cliff with a terrible fear of heights...all in one. And, it never gets better.

Don't smoke so I did particpate unknowingly.  When I was a teen, my mother told my brother and me that if she ever caught us smoking, she would make us eat the cigarette.  That's all we needed to hear and as such neither of us ever smoked.

I believe I read somewhere years ago that the lungs repair themselves much faster and sooner than 30 years.

I do have smokers in my life.  Sadly, those that are addicted to smoking do not listen to reason, no matter how much evidence proves that it's killing them.  And unfortunately, it's the loved ones being left behind that must witness a slow and painful death.
