Yes, ME!  I love our open spaces and don't want our already over-crowded city to turn into the san fernando valley... we're already getting the crime and some porn production.  Add in the half-way houses and live-in rehab centers that get put in our (often very expensive) residential neighborhoods and yes, there are many NIMBYs here and for good reason!

I have to laugh at your question, Dorie.  We have so many recent California transplants in our town and they are impacting all matter of development. Once they arrived and settled, they want to mold us into what they left!

Dorie Dillard I've been through decades of subdivision approvals and it's fully expected that all abutters within X number of feet will appear at all planning board meetings... I've never seen it NOT happen.... they board will not deny the approval because abutters don't want it there....but if the builder is asking for waivers of the standard requirements, that could drag it out and those waivers can be denied, unless they were approved for others....  I could keep going but I'll spare you!!

My goodness, YES! Clermont FL is still a small city that's growing and of course growth happens with new businesses, housing and many are screaming. What I'm most shocked about, there will be a new 55+ community in the next town, most do not want an adult community in the area.

We did a few years back when the market crashed. The country club was struggling and the board wanted to sell off some land to a condo developer. It took a huge law suit and people putting up money to buy the club back and stop the high density development.  It was accomplished.

It seems the residents of Minot ND are always fighting something. Two recent fights were: 1) Not allowing Walmart to build in a certain neighborhood. 2) Fighting a opioid clinic locating about anywhere in town.

No not lately. Last one was when someone had a huge aluminum trailer for hauling race cars parked on the side of their house. It was over 20' long. I signed paperwork on that - it made the area look like a trailer park.

I would turn owners in if I saw them rent out their homes 'per night' in any of my associations in the area. It's illegal here now.

Making FLORIDA Real Estate EZ

You bet.

That is how we get stuck with obsolete housing, inadequate public services and a population that believes elitist, exclusionist thinking is ok.

Think about this. Coastal Florida is the epicenter of what the consequence of global warming in the USA. A Cat 4 with a 27 FT storm surge will be catastrophic. However, newer construction (those McMansions are an examle)  increases survivability of housing should a hurricane EVERF occur in Florida.

The NIMBY's reluctance to change means those old houses will be swamped, flooded, blown away, with the cost of recovery placed on the tax payer. They create the very conditions for which they are most vocal. Greater density creates greater efficiency.

NIMBY wears many suits. What would you not want in your backyard?
