Get to know Patrick Milligan
Throughout the rural parts of Sturgeon County, you'll find many beautiful and very old maple trees. Their large, thick roots often extend deeply into the soil. The same can be said about Rick & Patrick Milligan. This father and son represent the third and fourth generations of a family whose roots in Sturgeon County date back to 1898. Rick & Patrick are very proud of that heritage, and they strive to uphold it every day.Open to the World
Since 1947, the Milligan family has owned the same homestead and farm. Today, the four homes on the property are inhabited by three generations of family: grandparents, children and grandchildren. They're as close as a family can be, and they treasure sharing their lives together. One might think it easy to lead an insular life under such circumstances, never venturing into the greater world. But not the Milligans. Their family roots may be deep, but every family member is as passionate about their community and the world as they are about each other. "We believe it's just as important to look outward as it is to look inward," says Rick, "and to make the effort to give back," adds Patrick.A Commitment to Community
Rick & Patrick's strongly-rooted commitment to give back to Sturgeon County is reflected in their community service. Rick served as a School Division Trustee for many years, and is currently a member of the Economic Development Committee. Patrick participates annually in charitable events that benefi t both the Stollery Children's Hospital and Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Rick & Patrick are equally devoted to giving back to the world. Both are dedicated to the preservation of endangered livestock breeds like Shetland and Indian ponies and Horned Dorset and Jacobs sheep. They raise these endangered breeds on their farm, which also serves as an agritourism center that offers both adults and children the chance to enjoy and learn from the rural lifestyle.Deeply Rooted in Sturgeon County
