Today, Is the Neighborhood Open House!!  Okay, its raining and I am going to Think Positively!! The Open House has been advertised on the Internet, in the News Sentinel, and in the Fountain City Focus! We put out signs on Wednesday this week, there is going to be a Door Prize! Well, at Least its Raining, people hopefully won't be able to do anything outside today, and its a good day to go to an Open House!! Yesterday was a terrrible day in Fountain City near Knoxville, TN. A shooting took place in our local high school less than 1/2 mile from my house. A young man Jamar Siler walked into the commons area and shot Ryan McDonald in the chest with a 22 caliber handgun. Around 10:20 a.m. Ryan was pronounced death at UT medical center. Things things usually happen in other areas. Just several weeks ago a man walked into a church here in Knoxville and shot several people there and now this. One of my favorite parts of North Knoxville is the charming little community of Fountain City. From Fountain City Lake (which the locals all call “the Duck Pond”) to Litton’s Restaurant; Fountain City has a style and charm all it’s own. Bordered to the north by Black Oak Ridge and south by Interstate 640, it’s sort of an area where time has definitely slowed down relative to the rest of Knoxville and not in a backwards way. This is my first localism post since relocationg to the metro-Knoxville area! In my short time in the area, I have discovered that there are numerous distinct suburbs and smaller cities that comprise the metro-Knoxville area. These suburbs and smaller towns contribute their own personal flavor to the overall area. One such suburb is Fountain City! Fountain City was annexed by the City of Knoxville in 1962. Unlike many smaller cities which surrender their identity upon annexation, Fountain City has clung to its own identity. In 1972, the non-profit community group Fountain City Town Hall was formed. Wow, what a weekend. Ohana has had a eventful couple of days including a lock-in, Fall Festival and a concert. I was so proud of many of our students this weekend. Friday night's lock-in allowed us to have a time of fellowship and fun while we set-up the Fall Festival. What can you say about Saturday? All day we had a group of students and adults preparing for out 3:30 start time to our fall festival. At first, we were a little concerned about people showing up. It started a little slow, but then we began to have our "boomer crowd" show up. They brought kids, decorations for their cars, costumes and appetites.  It is great to see a hometown boy make it in the bigs! Todd Helton and his team the Colorado Rockies are playing unbelievable baseball. We are very proud of him here in Fountain City, TN.  Other greats have come from our little town, including Tina Wesson the winner of Survival. I hope that Todd and the Rockies go far in the playoffs. He is a nice guy and deserves to be where he is! He is a former high school football/baseball player locally at Central high school. He attended the University of Tennessee as a baseball/football player. He was instrumental in our trip to the college world series.  Attention Fountain City Residents......This Saturday October 13, 2007 @ 3 p.m. we will have a small carnival with face painting, coloring, games and other activities for the kids. At 5:30 p.m. we will serve the cook off chili. We have already got several award winning chili cooks in the mix. If you think you can beat them, bring your best batch and see. It is all in good fun. At 6:30 or so, we will have trunk or treat in the front of the church for the neighborhood kids.  Recently, I went to the store and bought a $5.00 dollar gallon of milk and then went out and filled up my SUV with $3.00 dollar per gallon gas all the while thinking that it was highway robbery. I thought for a moment, that I could milk my own cow or even ride a bicycle for alot less money.... I got to thinking about how the good ole days were when my wife and I were spending $30.00 per week for groceries and when we bought a house for 8.5% interest in the mid 1990's then 8 years later the house sold for double what we paid for it. We all had it good back then. Everyone shared the wealth..... No one considered it a huge deal to pay realtors fees of 6% or upwards. Nor did they have a problem paying mortgage orginator fees or closing cost for loans. Home inspectors are being ignored. Now... 09/22/2007

As I begin to transition into Real Estate, I must work a job to pay the bills until I am established. I spend about ten and a half hours per day working in a paint store in Knoxville, TN. I am in a designer/retail/higher end clientel store where many people come into the store fretting over colors. We offer several options to these type people whether they are building a new home, remodeling, repainting. If you have a WordPress blogging platform and share my recent frustrations at trying to embed a YouTube video, there is a very quick and simple solution I found at Jack Humphrey.com The problem occurs because WordPress, like several blogging platforms, uses a WYSIWYG (whizzygig) or "What You See Is What You Get" editor for writing posts. Apparently the WordPress version of WYSIWYG doesn't like to embed things very well because all my attempts were coming out blank or scrambled.
