The Cumberland Plateau rises high in the middle of Tennessee and just midway between Nashville and Knoxville. Cumberland Cove, one of our featured properties, is nestled on top of the Plateau. Situated 14 miles from Crossville and 18 miles from Cookeville, residents enjoy beautiful Tennessee mountain living but with the convenience of being only minutes from town, major highways and other conveniences. Among our favorite things is the "hometown atmosphere" , the history of the area, hiking trails, the many beautiful state parks and over a dozen premier golf courses. It's not surprising that Crossville and Cookeville are recognized as "The Fourth Best Place in the United States" for retirement living." Our quality climate is among one of our best attributes. Our elevation here is approxim...

Football Sunday in our house is a HUGE event. My husband gathers all his snacks, his cold drinks, throws on his football jersey and heads to the game room of our home where he becomes lost in some sort of black hole. Every now and again you hear some sort of scream or cheer and you know, okay, he is still alive in there. Some Sundays are louder than others. His favorite losing team " The Raiders" always seem to fizzle out towards the end of the game and that's usually how I know "he's still alive and well" or at the very least half time is over ! For a long time we would spend our Sundays at the local Pub. A nice relaxing time over some hot wings and a cold beer. With the economy tightening up, Christmas around the corner we have decided lately to become a little more home bound. Althou...

Today's real estate market has some of us concerned, worried or maybe a little fed up. Do what I find myself doing from time to time - Take a deep breath and count to ten... Did it work?  If not there is still hope. Everything you are hearing on the news and reading in the papers may paint an ugly picture for the sale of your property and we may even need to hold our own for a short sale, but before you give up - realize that REAL ESTATE IS LOCAL!  (Don't rely on the national media for valid local information) Everything effects real estate locally. We must research all the statistics before we place a price! WHAT HAVE COMPARABLE HOMES SOLD FOR? IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD/COMMUNITY? CITY/TOWN. COUNTY. WHAT IS THE ANNUAL INCOME VIA MORTGAGE PAYMENTS? DOES MONTHLY INCOME EXCEED 1/3 OF PAYMENTS?...

This week as I did my fall cleaning with about three bags of clothes and several perishables I decided to donate to a local church or organization. Families and individuals do not have to pay for my donations when I give to a church This makes giving so much better.  Over the last year my team at  F1RST REALTY COMPANY  in Crossville have came in contact with a couple buyers/sellers that have lost their home due to many reasons - divorce, fire, lost job or they just found life had gave them a new obstacle. We make calls, get donations like clothes, food and help the best we can.  A recent mother found herself divorced, without a home and no belongings. As she was being approved for her loan we gathered clothing and lots of extras to get her and her son back on their feet.  It is in our ...

In the early 1950's " Johnny Warner" now owner of Warner Natural Herbs walked on the side of his Grandfather John Frank Warner every chance he could. Together they walked along the Cumberland Plateau, through the woods and dug " sain ". The " sain " was later dried out and made into medicine. Through the years little " Johnny Warner" was just as good as his Grandpa with finding Ginseng, Yellow Dock Root and Wild Indigo to name a few. Today, young " Johnny Warner" is the well known Herbalist here in Cumberland County following in his Grandfather's footsteps. Teaching people about medicinal plants and the power of healing through herbs.... If some of you are like me...a skeptic, follow along on my personal journey through Warner Natural Herbs in Crossville TN. I remember walking into Warn...

I remember my 6th grade year of Elementary School. A class trip was scheduled for a 3 night, 4 day trip to Washington DC. All year long we saved our money, our allowances, we held car washes and sold cookies to raise the funds needed for one of the most educational trips I have ever taken. Those were the good ole' days. Today, during my children's Elementary School years they have fond memories of 3 field trips per year to the Jamestown movie theater or maybe to a nearby lake to " feel the sand" while learning Science in class. Not one fundraiser to ever " earn " the needed funds and learn the power of a dollar. We adults seem to have turned out just fine from way back when. In a time and a place where you learned to live within your means, where calloused hands were not faux-pau and "c...
