A home inspection attended by my buyer and I this week at Fishhawk Lake brought some surprise visitors to us at the end of the inspection. While Dave McLean, The House Inspector, was being kind enough to put back some decking that had to be removed to get to the crawl space, my buyer and I had the opportunity to enjoy a visit from a Mallard Duck mama and her four fearless ducklings! You don't usually find this at a home inspection, especially one filled with the sounds of an electric screwdriver nearby! Fishhawk Lake Nature--A Little Story about a Big Moth!Memorial Day weekend I was showing 7 homes to a family of six, including two young grand children. We were at the last home, situated in a stunning park-like setting when one of my buyers noticed an enormous moth just sitting on the edge of the seller's trex deck! The seller happened to be there and since it was my last stop with these folks the seller suggested that maybe the moth might still be here if I ran home and got my camera, as it was a coolish day. He was right! About 20 minutes later I came back and took numerous photos and measured the moth's wingspan. After going to the Stone Barns, a farm-to-table "Center for Food and Agriculture" in New York City thanks to my dear friend and tour guide, Joanna Cohlan, I found some wall art that inspired me to create our own version on our ranch, in what I am calling Gayle's Folly (explanation below). Here is the photo I took while at Stone Barns so that it gives you an idea of what we were aiming for. As a result of us taking down many planks of old barnwood from aged fencing around our property, I told my husband, let's keep it and recycle it, and this is the first project we have embarked on since taking it down about a year ago.
