  New Trails on the South Mountain side of Loon *UPDATE* Twitcher, and Jobber, have been added to the South Peak side of Loon mt. These expert trails follow a similar fall line as the Double black diamond trail Rip-Saw, and when added to the Cruiser and Boom Run Intermediate level trails they really give the advanced skier a place to open up the carving turns.   It seems fitting that this White Mountain scenic highway has re-opened on 9-11. This is a tribute to the federal employees that repair natural and man made destruction with little fan fair or acknowledgement. Two weeks ago Hurricane Irene dropped 14 inches of rain on the Kancamagus Highway in Lincoln New Hampshire. The rumors were we wouldn’t have this pristine stretch of federal highway open until the spring of 2012. But with Foliage knocking on the door the road was repaired and opened in two weeks time.   ..   There was evidence in dozens of places were huge sections of highway and guard rails were washed away by the torrents of swollen streams.       If you have never taken this drive, there is no better time than leaf peeper season…the trip is 35 miles long, no commercial busines... 09/11/2011

There seems to be some concerns about the after affects of our recent tropical storm...closing down the White Mountain's National Forest.  "Eagle Cliff". Hiking Mount Lafayette to Lincoln and Little Haystack then down the brook trail will be a great labor day adventure and Echo lake beach is a wonderful way to cool off after a big hike. National Forest Preserve....open for all recreational activities, you will not be able to drive over the Kanc due to bridge repairs but many other destinations are available. The Kancamagus Scenic Highway is a National treasure, it is recognized as one of the best mountain drives on the east coast. Motorcyclist -Bicyclist - Campers and tourist of every nationality drive this route for the scenery. I have a real estate office on this Federally designated scenic highway, and often stop for coffee here on my way to work. We are expecting near 100 degrees on the east coast by Friday. So when I came across this picture I took while skiing back in March (only four months ago) it put the weather in to perspective for me. This too shall pass. The ice coated trees with Mount Washington's 6,300 foot summit off in the distance...on a beautiful ski day, will help me get through a little bit of a heat wave. While it may be steaming at ground level it can still be chilly on the mountain tops.
