Park Bark!   Kevin Becker, in the white T-shirt, is shown hard at work with Family and friends on the future off-leash dog park at Hacienda Park. In this photo, taken Saturday May 5, 2012, they can be seen pouring cement pads on which restored stone picnic benches will be placed, up and out of the mud. Kevin is one of two scouts working to earn their Eagle Scout badges. Kevin's project involves stump grinding, trenching 1500 feet, laying the same amount of pvc irrigation and electrical line, rototilling, soil amendment and spreading 200 lbs of grass seed on what will be the large dog park area. Looking for that unique piece of jewelry in Cameron Park, Ca? I was looking for a new ring about a year ago, after looking around at many different places, I was told about Jon Bate Jewelry Studio. I found it to be a comfortable studio that had an enormous selection. I was looking for something unique and was leaning toward a ring made of Tungsten. After talking to the owners Jon and Pam about all the pros and cons of several new ring materials, I was having a tough time in choosing the ring that I wanted. We narrowed it down to five possible choices that had to be ordered in my size. The Bates’ told me that they would order all five rings in my size so that I could see what I was buying. Days later the rings were in and I drove the short drive to Cameron Park, Ca. When I tried on the ...

Is it too early to be talking about fireworks in Cameron Park?   If you have never seen the fireworks display in Cameron Park, I hope you get a chance this year. The annual event happen at the Cameron Park Lake located at Cambridge Road. The fireworks are actually launched from a small barge on the water. The synchronized display is the finality of the day long festivities. The day begins at 2:00 pm with an evening filled with great musical entertainment, food and craft exhibitors, and contests at the Cameron Park Summer Spectacular. This year’s Summer Spectacular and World-Class Fireworks will be Saturday, June 30th.           Location of the Cameron Park Summer Spectacular and Fireworks Show! View Larger Map

I've repaired it already, why is this water damage recurring?   If the same water damage recurs, then the water damage problem was never corrected properly. Sure, the damage may have been removed and new material put in its place, but the problem still exists. So don’t have the same repair done again. It is important that the contractor or handyman that you hire understands why this sort of thing happens. Where is the water getting in? Is the flashing installed correctly? Are the windows leaking? These and many more questions need to be asked by the repair person if he/she is going to find the problem. Having an understanding of proper building techniques and why they are needed, is invaluable.   I never assume!   When dealing with water damage, and the subsequent dry rot that often o...

Sacramento Valley from El Dorado County – Photo   I had to find a place to pull over to get this shot, it was near the end of the day and the sun was setting over the horizon. You can see the pockets of rain in the clouds as they are approaching. Enjoy this day!

Wood Fungus can be a beautiful thing. That’s right, fungus growth as a thing of beauty. Sure it may not be a good thing when the fungus is coming from rotted wood; your property may be experiencing some serious damage. You are not interested in seeing what this growth looks like up close. You will probably be more interested in getting rid of the wood destroying organism. Here is some fungus growth that I was able to shoot on Friday. What do you think, isn’t it beautiful?

What? Oak Trees Produce Acid?     Do you have oak trees near your house? Have you noticed that the gutters have corroded rather quickly? Your oak trees are filled with oak galls containing tannin. Tannin is a very corrosive liquid when mixed with water, forming tannic acid that will eat through metal. Seriously. In a relatively short period of time, your gutters could look like this.    This photo was taken in Cameron Park; if you are experiencing a similar problem, contact a contractor in your area. If you are in the El Dorado County, Sacramento County, or Placer County, contact me!  J   Tromler Construction 916-765-5366

Do You Know How to Check a Contractor’s References? So you have found a contractor that seems to be a good fit for your project. Now what? You hear it all the time, ask for references! It’s a good idea to get at least 3 references and if the contractor has been around for a while, he should be able to come up with quite a few. So you are handed a list of references, what sort of thing should you ask?     Here are a few things to get you started in your research. Were you satisfied with the project? How long ago was this improvement completed? Did the job get done on schedule? Was the original estimate accurate? If there were changes made, were you satisfied with the cost of the changes? Did the workers show up on time? Was the contractor on site himself? How was the communication with...

Living in the foothills in El Dorado County can bring you closer to nature. Turkeys, deer, and raccoons are not uncommon occurrences in many apartment communities in Cameron Park, Placerville, and the surrounding area.   This picture was taken through a bedroom window while working in an apartment in Cameron Park, Ca.   Sometimes nature just walks up to the window.

I visit plenty of apartment communities that seem to be the same ol' thing. Occasionally, I get to see something that spruces up the view. Flowers, outside artwork, designer stones, are some common improvements to the entry door area. The creativity during the holidays really brings out the resident's flare. Here is a Halloween pumpkin theme that I liked seeing in October.

The Cameron Park Show and Shine is scheduled for this weekend and packed with aviation and family activities. Julie Clark will be performing aerobatics in her T-34 Mentor airplane. This is a wonderful opportunity to get a taste of an aviation community, and this well planned event, in it's 22nd year. Cameron Park is one of California’s most successful examples of a metro airport airpark community. California Airport Airparks: California provides numerous opportunities for pilots to own their own home with airport access. These properties range from airport communities with upscale homes including adjoining hangars to rural communities with limited RV uses. Opportunities also exist to choose lots and design and build custom homes with hangars creating your dream of a California Airport H...

22nd Annual – Show N’ Shine & Fly-In – (event flyer) Saturday, October 8, 2011 (7am – 3pm) at Cameron Park Airpark (Oxford and Fairway)         Now in its 22nd year, the Cameron Park Show N’ Shine & Fly- In has become an exciting, major community event, attracting over 2,500 visitors in 2010. I closed a short sale in Elk Grove yesterday and a short sale in Lincoln the day before that. There is something odd about both of these Sacramento short sales. something they both share in common. Both of these homes have a ton of upgrades that were not reflected in the sales price. Stuff the original sellers paid through the nose to get when they bought. Because upgrades is where the money is for builders. All of those amenities -- elevation, plantation shutters, stainless appliances, oiled bronze, crown molding, CAT-5, stain finish, natural wood upgrades, tumbled stone, stained glass, slab granite, etched and frosted glass, optional built-in features, boxed ceilings, high-end triple pane, the list goes on and on -- they were all free. No value whatsoever in the sales price. This is t...

Any Talk of Water Damage Has To Include a Good Roofing Company   All the prevention and maintenance used in protecting our homes may be wasted if we do not include the roof. A leaking roof can do a lot of damage to the interior of your home; it is important that we make sure that it is in good shape for the rainy season.     What do you know about roofs? If you are like me, I know a bad one when I see one. That’s not good enough.           I know a gentleman in Cameron Park, Ca by the name of Ed Bell. He owns Bell Roofing Company. He knows more about roofing than I ever hope to know. If I have an issue with my roof, he is the man I call. I refer him to anyone who calls me with a question about roofing also.               What makes Bell Roofing so special?   He has about a gazillion y...

Dry Rot Water Damaged Post in Cameron Park Apartment Community   The damage caused by water and soil to a deck can lead to problems to the structure. Water and soil up against a wood post for an extended period of time can lead to dry rot and the softening and loss of good wood.   This picture shows what a deck post can look like after a few years of rot due to soil contact and water. This is not safe. This post is the corner post which holds up two deck, one on top of the other. If you are experiencing this sort of damage to your deck, consider contacting someone with experience in this type of repair.
