Many kids probably wonder what Santa does during the "off season."  Well, now we know, he lives in Sun City, Arizona. Yes, Santa is a snow bird?  How do I know this? I met him of course! Sun City is a wonderful retirement community with 7 recreational centers.  While swimming with my mother and son at the Marinette Rec Center in Sun City, we saw a man who looked very very familiar. Here in Sun City, you always know summer has arrived. Unlike many parts of the country, we don't look at the calendar, June 21 has little meaning. Summer is defined by when the coffee you left on the dash in the morning is still warm in the afternoon. In my case recently, the coffee I left YESTERDAY was still warm THIS AM. Spring this year was incredibly mild, we were well into June before we hit the triple digit temperatures that Arizona is known for. Pace of life is now a little slower, snowbirds have gone home. The NextGen club of Sun City got off to a great start! I wrote about the first meeting of this club dedicated to the baby boomer generation now moving into Sun City HERE. Attendance was fantastic, with over 100 people attending. All were enthusiastic, the club will be off to a good start. In the year of its 50th Anniversary, Sun City welcomes the newest of many clubs for residents. A new club is being organized for "Baby Boomers". The club is to be tenatively called the Next Gen club and will welcome the boomers with activities relevant to them, and meeting times convenient, now scheduled for evenings since so many of us work. Yes, us, as I am a boomer, having been born in 1946. The organizational meeting will be Thurday, March 11 at 7PM in Talisman Hall  10433 W Talisman Rd, by the Lakes West golf course. Today 2/10/10, the Arizona Republic anounced that foreclosure filings were down significantly in metropolitan Phoenix. this is the first time since Novembeer 2008 this has occurred. What caused the drop is not certain, perhaps loan modifications are finally working, or more likely, since pre-foreclosure notices are down also, people are now able to pay the mortgage. Employment was also up in December and January, and the Science Foundation of Arizona announced that the high tech industries in Arizona maintained a fairly stable employment rate. Just a couple of nice items in today's news. Fourth quarter GDP up 5.7%, highest improvement in six years. Let us hope it continues. Meritage and Lennar have both announced grand openings on NEW developments in the Phoenix area for tomorrow. 1/30/2010. This is HUGE to me. New home building means JOBS. In my Sun City Neighborhood, I have personally had several of the best open houses since 2000. I have said for a couple of years that there was a pent-up demand building, and it seems that it may be starting to buy. I look forward to doing my market report tomorrow night. We had 2 days of liquid sunshine (rain) and looking for 2 more before the winter storm track changes. Obviously a rare occurrence in Sun City AZ, since we have 320 days of sun each year. Rain days in Sun City are almost local holidays. I told the buyers who were having a home inspection today that we arranged the rain to make them feel at home. We do aim to please here.
