Who else enjoys learning new facts? Here are 3 "Odd But True Facts" that happened in History on February 10.While these interesting items are intriguing, they have nothing to do with my real estate business, helping people like you buy and sell homes in Silicon Valley, Calif. and beyond. I admit, they just add fun and fascination to life.1306 – In front of the high altar of Greyfriars Church in Dumfries, Robert the Bruce stabs John "Red" Comyn, Lord of Badenoch. Most historians now agree the event was likely not premeditated. Yet when Bruce's cousin stepped in afterward to "finish the job" of killing Comyn, it initiated revolution, resulting in the Scottish Wars of Independence. Both men were potential claimants to the vacant Scottish throne. It is often forgotten that the Wars of Scott...

While "Pizza Day" may not be recognized as a holiday on most calendars, it's definitely one to make note of! If you're like me, Pizza is a treat. That means when I get it, I want it to be good pizza with the most flavorful quality toppings with a chewy dough that's as delicious as good bread. Rarely do I purchase nor eat pizza from  national chains such as Papa John's,  Pizza Hut, Domino's or Little Caesar's.  To be polite, I will partake of these if someone else orders it. My favorite Pizza Pie comes from a local, family-owned Italian Restaurant that I and my family have enjoyed since I was a young girl of nine years old.  My parents first discovered Giorgio's Italian Food & Pizza after they sold their house in Campbell and moved to a larger home with a built-in swimming pool in Willo...

This Week…A New Year and The Super Bowl What a week!  We had an excellent Zoom presentation from Charlie Dresen. If you’ve not seen Charlie’s videos on Steamboat Springs, I urge you to take a look. I’m still trying to figure out how he can be in front of a camera while filming and fly a drone!!!   Last year when Justin Verlander returned to the Astros, I felt more joy than I can remember feeling. But this week it was matched when I learned that Jose Altuve has extended his contract and will be an Astors for life!!!  Sunday is Super Bowl Sunday between the 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs!!!  I’m hoping for a good game and of course, Larry is hoping the Chiefs win!  Some people think the whole thing is rigged…some are tired of the cameras panning to a certain young entertainer. Me? I wan...

Not Just a Drink: Wassail“Wassail, wassail, all over the townOur toast it is white and our ale it is brownOur bowl it is made of the white maple treeWith the wassailing bowl we’ll drink to thee”— Gloucestershire Wassail CarolWhen you read the lyrics aloud to this drinking song (or hear the tune), you can almost feel that cup of hot alcohol in your hand as you drunkenly sway to and fro, singing at the top of your lungs around the Christmas tree. The drink, wassail, conjures images of caroling revelers dressed in boughs of holly and fir with wooden crocks full of good cheer in a Bacchus-type parade through city streets. It’s nostalgia wrapped in a warm blanket of cider, mulled wine, nutmeg and floating orange slices. A celebratory holiday gathering around a highly decorative punch bowl. B...

Sierra Nevada Hop Hunter IPAWe had sandwiches at home for our lunch today. Our beverage selection was the Sierra Nevada Hop Hunter IPA. If you enjoy IPAs, this is a good one for you to try. Drink responsibly. 6.2% Alc. by Vol.Description Hop Hunter IPA harnesses the complex flavors of just-picked hops through an all-new method of steam distilling wet hops before they even leave the fields. This revolutionary technique captures and intensifies the natural flavors, creating a unique and intensely aromatic beer. Our custom process gathers pure hop oil which, when combined with traditional whole-cone hops in the brew kettle, makes for an incredible IPA experience. Tulips, Longwood Gardens, Kennett Square, Pennsylvania USA IMG 0925Canon PowerShot G11 CameraPhotograph by Roy KelleyRoy and Dol...

Sunshine and buzzes fill the air... Walking outside to the garden area, I noticed several honey bees darting past, busily foraging on a warmer, southern Utah winter day. A practiced landing at the hive to unload saddlebags, heavily laden with food, then setting off again to collect more. Am excited to see their proactive spirit, perhaps a lesson for humans on self-sufficiency rather relying on outside means for sustainability. Bees have the best work ethic of most creatures that I know, other than the dung beetle and we all know what he deals with, day in and day out. And that’s no bull!

"A recipe has no soul. You, as the cook, must bring soul to the recipe." -Thomas KellerLast month our ActiveRain Challenge was all about how we use AI in our business or life. We hoped one of our cooking gurus, like Will Hamm  or Endre Barath, Jr.  would jump in with an AI-created recipe. I know they are both too creative to need AI, but it might be a fun experiment. Anyway, since that didn't happen and "cooking more" is on my Vision Board for this month's Challenge, hosted by Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - Wanda Can! and Kathy Streib, I thought I would experiment with it a bit. Here is my first attempt, utilizing ingredients I usually have on hand:Carol to ChatGPT: "I have the following items available.
