Life is good if you live in the greater Los Angeles area...I was reminded today by our friend  Mark Don McInnes, Sandpoint-Idaho   as he sent me a great email with some wonderful photos. Needless to say, they were some Blizzard Photos and he laughed that I was complaining about putting on a sweater and a jacket when the temperatures dropped to the mid-fifties and low sixties as I walked Holly our dog.Indeed, we have no right to complain about our weather. As I looked out in our backyard and took these photos of our tangerine tree.Clearly you will agree we have no right to complain. Thank you Mark Don McInnes, Sandpoint-Idaho  reminding me what is important and what is not. Hope you forgive me using your photo.  Now if you are considering coming to Los Angeles, please reach out to me. Wi...

Who else, like me, loved Christmas and Advent calendars as a child? Advent calendars are a fun way to teach children about the meaning of the holiday while simultaneously managing expectations, especially the question, "How many more days until Christmas?"Most Advent Calendars feature 24 openings (doors, windows or drawers)  that open up to a picture or Bible verse, and sometimes even a candy, toy or ornament. There's one opening for each day in December leading up to Christmas Eve on the 24th.When my brother and I were young, we had one Advent calendar and took alternating turns daily opening up the little doors. We felt rich when one year we each got our own Advent calendar! Then there was the year of the amazing chocolate candy Advent calendar from Switzerland that my clever Mommy Jud...

Dr. Pepper, Rosa Parks and Abraham Lincoln all share an important newsworthy anniversary on December 1st.Read on to learn about these and other events from this date in history.          1824 – Since no U.S. presidential candidate received a majority of the total electoral college votes in the election, the United States House of Representatives is given the task of deciding the winner in accordance with the Twelfth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Andrew Jackson, John Quincy Adams, Henry Clay and William Crawford were the primary contenders. John Quincy Adam was declared President and William Crawford as Vice President. Then, as now, the situation caused much political party infighting, as well as public rancor.         1862 – In his State of the Union Address President Abraham Linc...

I am waiting for a delivery.  I need to be at home packing, but I'm at my office waiting for UPS and USPS because I have a new replacement mouse that should be coming today.  I paid extra.  It says it's coming today and I was excited for the Fedex truck, but no, that was my brother's package. But with all the gifts piled up and no wrapping started yet, I was thinking about my favorite gift of every Christmas since 2000.  Someday I hope Cooper and MJ will enjoy those gifts.  I hope my daughter will enjoy them too.  I hope his sons will read them some day. But for now, they are just mine.  The first one came in the mail. He was in California for Christmas in 2000. All the others have been rolled up and tied with a ribbon and stuck in our Christmas tree.  If I didn't get anything else for C...

I am gratitude for having a wife that is a wildlife person.  Yes she made me sell my rifles and I gave up hunting before we got married but it was work it.  I got her a good Nikon camera and lots of lenses that we can catch lots of pictures on our many trips to Yellowstone and other places.  We just got this one outside the cabin in Clark, Colorado. This Moose calf was just born in Rocky Mountain National Park in June of this year.  We saw him born and this was day three when he was up on all four legs.  New born are always fun to watch, she like to take lots of pictures, lucky it is a digital camera over I be buying lots of film.Of course I love when she tells me to turn around that she can get the picture from her side of the car like this fox that was fine with her taking a picture of...

Plum Pudding: By Any Other Name and Holiday  Plum Pudding is often associated with Christmas thanks to Charles Dickens, but it is served at Thanksgiving as well and special occasions. Call it what you may it is delicious! Christmas pudding is sweet dried-fruit pudding traditionally served as part of Christmas dinner in Britain and other countries to which the tradition has been exported. It has its origins in medieval England, with early recipes making use of dried fruit, suet, breadcrumbs, flour, eggs and spice, along with liquid such as milk or fortified wine. Later, recipes became more elaborate. In 1845, cookery writer Eliza Acton wrote the first recipe for what she called "Christmas pudding".The dish is sometimes known as plum pudding (though this can also refer to other kinds of b...
