This Week…They Say It’s Fall! A quick look at the calendar told me that today is the beginning of Fall!  Someone forgot to tell Texas!   Autumn teaches us the beauty of letting go. Growth requires release—it’s what the trees do.  Ka’ala, @alohakaalaAs I write this, the temperatures here are in the high 90s with an even higher feels-like temp.  It will be interesting to see what impact our unusually high temps this summer and virtually no rain will have on the few fall colors we have.  Autumn leaves don't fall, they fly. They take their time and wander on this their only chance to soarDelia Owens, Where the Crawdads SingThe months of September and October are fun for sports fans. Was excited for the next leg of the trip - and headed out of Lisboa this morning. Went West to Cascais and although it took a while to get back into the City, it was gorgeous.   The architecture was newer and gorgeous right on the water.   Stopped at a real estate window and looked at the prices.   For under 700 meters (which equates to about 7400 SF, a home was for sale for €2.4.    It was very nice. There were even some beach volleyball players on the beach today.Headed to Sintra, but kind of drove through and did not stop.    Headed further North to Nazaré and really enjoyed that.   There weren't many there, and you could actually drive down the streets.    I stopped, got a snack, and watched the waves roll in.   My tour to Berlinga Island was canceled due to the sea conditions.   It ...

If you have never been to the Black Hills in South Dakota, you do not know what you are missing.  I lived up there for a couple of years in the 70,'s and have visited it a number of times in the last 20 years.  I have a couple of friends that have never been there before so I decided to take them up there from Denver and be their tour guy.It is only a 6 hour drive from Denver.   Out trip started out on Sunday at Deadwood, great old mining town and now a town that has lots of slots machines.  Monday headed back over to Devil Tower and watch some of the climbers climbing to the top.  They say the fastest time climbing it was 18 minutes but the average is 3 to 5 hours.  I am not a climber at my age.  In the afternoon we headed to Keystone to be our base camp for the next 3 days.  The after...

Friday Flags in Southington CT Depaolo Middle SchoolI am always looking for our flag, and do make a point of stopping if I see one. I do allow extra time for road distractions, so I wasn't late. This flag was flying proud and was almost in the back yard of the listing I was going to, so it was an easy stop. The building is the assembly hall for Depaolo Middle School in Southington, CT. It is also clearly visible for the road better than 1000 ft away so how coo to drive into school and see our flag.It was a breezy day, so my wait was almost nil, and as it was so pleasant, I took a second shot for appreciation.I do like seeing our flag waving proudly in the breeze and in front of a school starts a mindset for the attendees early.Friday Flags in Southington CT Depaolo Middle School

Throwback Thursdays: look at these two moments... the photos reminded me of some great moments. In 2014 I listed a home in Bel Air, CA in the 90077 zip code, the sellers were my previous buyers. Long story short the new buyers bought the home with a different agent. Two years ago they reached out to me and we searched and were patient and this year they bought their new home with me. It is a long story, and I will just leave it at that. Now go figure a year before that Diane and I were sitting enjoying lunch somewhere in Los Angeles. She loved the food. Clearly it did not leave me with a memory as to where we had lunch. Nevertheless, it was good and the year was exactly 10 years ago.  Wishing you a safe and healthy life and I look forward to your comments. If you are looking for a knowled...

One of the nice things about living in the Scottsdale area is the number of local theater companies and small playhouses within an easy drive. A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of attending a local theatre production of a play called Tom Foolery. The show was hosted at the Fountain Hills Theatre in Fountain Hills, AZ. The intimate theater seats 89 patrons, making it a comfortable, setting where the audience and performers are only 10 or 15 feet apart.Tom Foolery is a musical comedy based on the satire and genius of Tom Lehrer.Although I never remember listening to Tom Lehrer growing up, his music struck a chord with me as soon as I heard it. Since then, I have spent hours listening to and viewing videos of his performances from the 1950s and 1960s. It seemed appropriate to include him...

Friday Fun…Pumpkin Spice?? The Pumpkin-spice latte, cookies, and creamers started hitting the shelves weeks ago. There are even pumpkin-spice Cheerios and Cavier!!!  While I love a pumpkin-spice scent, I draw the line there. An article I read said  that our sense of taste is “one of our weakest senses.” The author, Matt Johnson, who specializes in the application of psychology in marketing, describes it as “hallucinating with our taste buds.”   FUN FACTS:~1 in 5 Americans enjoy drinking pumpkin spice latte~There is no pumpkin in pumpkin-spice. It is a combination of cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg, and allspice. ~West Virginia is the #1 pumpkin spice-obsessed state.  Want to know where your state falls? WHAT ABOUT YOU? The Almanac You May Not Know!  Part OneEmber Days:The name is derived from the Latin quattuor tempora, meaning “Four Times” or “Four Seasons.” The specific themes for each Ember Week of the year are as follows:Spring: the Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday after Ash Wednesday, to give thanks for the rebirth of nature and for the gift of light (usually flowers are offered at this time).Summer: Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday after Pentecost, to give thanks for the wheat crop.Fall: the Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday after the Feast of the Holy Cross (September 14), to give thanks for the grape harvest.Winter: the Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday after the Feast of St. Lucy (December 13), during the third week of Advent, to give thanks for the olive crop.As with much folklore, this is grounde...

Following a guinea pig makes just as much sense as following many of the leaders today. Of course my mind went immediately to lemmings. Doing a quick search of "lemmings on the cliff yielded so very fun cartoons representing many popular views on FaceBook or what ever it is called today. Here are a couple.Have you ever wondered what a real lemming looks like? I think they are cute... for a rodent.

Got a great night's sleep, and ready to tackle the day!   Started out raining, so had breakfast at the hotel.   Had coffee in my room, but it was instant coffee!   NO WAY, had to go to the restaurant and get a real cup. There are TV shows that are in English, with Portugese subtitles, so was able to watch a movie before sleeping.Lisbon has a population of 3 million, then you have all the tourists!  OH MY, it is quite bustling, and the traffic is tough to maneuver.   It took 1.5 hours to go 5 miles from the airport.   You stop at every light!Today ventured south across the bridge to Sesimbra, and WOW, I could live there part-time!  SO beautiful, and everything you would expect from a European city.   High above the City is Sesimbra Castle that was built somewhere around 1165.  Atlantic Oc...

Ya ever wonder just some weird out there stuff and think. . . . "Does any one else think of this stuff too?" Well, if you were ever strange enough to think it ( and especially laugh at it ) , then you can bet that someone else did too.So, in case you ever wondered . . . - then here is a case in point. For my second chapter to this challenge, I will harken back to the early days of Rock and Roll. And at the same time add another blog post to my Soundtrack of a Lifetime. The Soundtrack is a hobby I began in 2018 to discuss the music of my generation. This one is a novelty song that I remember from the early 1970s. It is one most of you will recognize as well.Growing up I was a big Chuck Berry fan. I enjoyed his songs like his 1955 hit Maybelline, his 1958 hit Johnny B. Goode, and his 1964 record, No Particular Place to Go.By the 1970s, Chuck Berry’s impact on Rock and Roll had passed to younger musicians. The genre was transitioning to harder rock and psychedelic music that featured big-name bands like Led Zepplin and The Who.But despite slowing record sales, Berry still commanded audie...
