Feel Better About Where You LiveThis video has many uses:1. It will help you feel better about where you live.2. You can use it for your spouse. Whenever he (she) says the house is a mess, just show him (her) this video and say “At least our house is not as bad as the video”!3. You can use it for your teenager. “If you don’t learn to clean up your room, this is what your house is going to look like when you grow up and have your own place!”4. Teenager - you can use it for your parents. “At least my room is not as bad as this video.”5. OR - you can take pictures of it as part of a broker price opinion and get paid for wandering through all this trash!

The Widow - Part 8 I love this story because it is full of so many heroes.Jason, the Code Enforcement Officer, for following his heart instead of imposing multiple fines and walking away. He stayed with the project to the end, often bringing his beautiful boy along to play as he worked.John the Chief of Police. He had transferred to another local city for his work, but lives in Woodinville. He used his considerable drive, clout and organizational ability to keep the project driving forward to completion.John’s father-in-law Gary. Gary had been a pastor. Retired as a contractor. Now nearly the same age as Annie, he was on site working virtually every day. Annie the widow has become one of the family. She was at their place for Thanksgiving. Goes to church with them now. Months ago we h...

The Widow - Part 7After pastor Josh McQueen told “Annie’s story” to our church, a powerful movement was born inside of us. The first Saturday after we heard, we had 150 people show up on site. Our church bus was running a shuttle back and forth to bring and take people. http://activerain.com/blogsview/1450734/the-widow-part-5The entire roof got torn off and replaced. We gave all the free labor they could use, (20 on the roof, 20 on the ground) but the real heroes were Bob Bernaki of Redmond Roofing and his crew, who were there before we came on Friday, and finished it out, all on their own time, the following Sunday and even Monday after work. I had become one of the organizers of the event, so I was calling through the list of some 240 people who had expressed interest. We were espec...

The Widow - Part 6Don’t know if you remember the story or not. Here are the first blog posts I wrote about the story: http://activerain.com/blogsview/1440553/the-widow-part-1http://activerain.com/blogsview/1443336/the-widow-part-3http://activerain.com/blogsview/1445316/the-widow-part-4http://activerain.com/blogsview/1450734/the-widow-part-5The story, as told to us in church one morning, got us all riled up.A couple had owned a home for a long time. They decided to remodel it to live out their retirement years there.Hired a contractor and paid him $258000 in cash.He moved them into an apartment and gutted the place. He took their money and left them with a shell of a house. It did have all new windows!A few years later, the husband dies of cancer. His dying wish is that his widow fix up ...

I'm sitting at an open house in Woodinville WA right now, and just finished having an interesting conversation with another real estate agent who stopped by.  She's not a local agent, (actually lives in Minnesota, and she's just visiting family here).  We were discussing the pros and cons of holding open houses.  She was of the mindset that open houses were a complete waste of time. Case in point: This home I'm holding open just came on the market yesterday.  Typically, new listings get a lot of traffic, both online and on foot.  Right now is the best chance to reach the most number of people to tell them about this new home on the market.  It's a glorious, hot weekend in the Pacific Northwest, and I've had pretty slow traffic through here, even thoug this is the first weekend this home...

Another wet weekend in Seattle!  It's nearly June and today the outside temperature barely made it to 55F.  Staging with these warm bright colors lifts my spirits.  We staged both of these homes this past week, the first on Wednesday and the second on Friday, in between rain squalls!  The buttery yellow sofa and loveseat are a set, which we often separate for staging jobs. Woodinville is Wine Country. It is host to over 59 wineries and 31 tasting rooms and has annual wine tasting events that people flock here to attend. A few months ago my friend and co-worker Samuel invited me to a little place he likes in town called  This place is out of this world! They feature a different wine maker each week with wine tastings for only $5.  My favorite so far was Chandler Reach Vineyards - poured by winemaker Richard Corella. The guy was a hoot, his jokes were bad and the wine was incredible! There is live music every Friday & Saturday night from 7 til 10. The music is jazzy & blues varies with local performers like Michael Powers (http://www.michaelpowersmusic.com/)  Narayan and Janet (http://www.narayanjanet.com)  and Jazz in the Corner (http://jazzinthecorner.com...

My Husband Andy and I take a day each week to wander around Woodinville. As he is a native and I am still discovering Woodinvilles secret treasures - I decided to share this awesome park! Wilmot Gateway Park, Woodinville's first community park, is named after Jerry Wilmot, one of the founding fathers of the City of Woodinville.  It's located right downtown across from the baseball fields. Once you park and step through the gates you'll see pathways of engraved bricks, tiles & raised planters. The park has the Sammamish River Trail running adjacent to it and there are walkers, runners, bicyclists and lot's of geese there. We walked for awhile, sat on the side of the river and just enjoyed a lazy afternoon here. Of course - there's always the boyhood stories. How Andy and his brother used...

In my series "Wandering around Woodinville" I share some interesting places I am discovering.                        This week, my darling husband Andy and I had a lunch date at the Horseshoe Saloon aka "the Shoe". The Horseshoe Tavern is located just west of downtown at:  12461 NE Woodinville Drive, Woodinville WA 98072 It's in the "dive bar" category - but the beer was cold and the food was delicious! Our lunch was under $20 including the beer!      Yes it is OLD - I'm sure it has lots of stories to tell.  A native of Woodinville - Andy told me stories while we were there about how there used to be an old mill across the street where there are now a bunch of warehouses. i heard about a car wreck and some neighbors he grew up with. The bartender Terri chimed in an gave her two cents ab...

We staged a beautiful million dollar plus home this week in the exclusive Bear Creek Country Club community in Woodinville, Washington.  This sprawling rambler has a wonderful floor plan and everyone on our staging team fell in love with it, including me! When I first previewed the home for staging, I knew that we would need to work with the black and cream toile wallpaper in the master bathroom.  By using a black and cream color scheme in the bedroom, including a dramatic headboard and beautifully patterned bedding, the master suite is now pulled together without looking too "matchy".     Staging by SISTERS Interior Redesign, Edmonds, WA, 425.776.7890, sisters@sistersredesign.com Give your listing the competitive advantage of professional staging.  Contact us today for a complimentary ...

Nature Lovers --- The Bear Creek Community in Woodinville, Washington is Great Real Estate, But You Have to Share the Fish --- It is hard to say for sure, if our real estate is in Woodinville (sphere of influence), Cottage Lake (census district), Ring Hill (voting precinct), or the Bear Creek Community (just a stone's throw from that salmon spawning run). Whatever you want to call our home community, it is special to live within these wonderful designations. If we are talking about Bear Creek, then we need to discuss the obvious derivation of the name. The nearby creek is home to a very occasionally seen shy brown bear. The two paintings in this post are part of a three painting set. They are done in acrylic and each is 24" square on canvas in their original size.  _____________________...

The Ring Hill, Real Estate Area of Woodinville, Washington --- Full of Pleasant Surprises --- We didn't even know we lived there until our voter pamphlet informed us that our newly purchased real estate was in the Ring Hill voting district of Woodinville Washington. As it turns out, Ring Hill is a very desirable area to live. One of our neighbors told us she had waited years for a property to come on the market. We were fortunate when we found ourselves in a multiple offer situation the day our home-to-be came on the market. We eventually beat out a higher offer with a compelling letter to the seller. Now we couldn't be happier as we get to know our neighborhood. Ring Hill is part of the highly respected Northshore School District, and a short commute to Microsoft, the closest major emp...
