The new bridge in downtown Winthrop Washington in beautiful Methow Valley has been stated to have it's finish date tomorrow October 28, 2011 according to the Methow Valley News article of October 12, 2011 front page. The Winthrop Spring Creek Bridge was designed to fit in with the Old American West theme for Winthrop Washington. Fish friendly the bridge spans the entire river with no pilings in a cable-stayed design and self weathering steel for an old rustic look.  The bridge is part of a larger vision to make our home town friendly to non motorized travel such as walking and cycling. That is right after buckets of unusually ginormous amounts of rain for the sunny dry slopes of the East Cascades of North Central Washington, the sun has returned, and all the fall colors came flying back with warm temperatures in the 70's.  Layers are best for the dramatic range in temperatures in the unpredictable fall and spring weather of Methow Valley. Nights can be below 32 and mornings also a bit chilly. The wood stoves are getting fired up on a regular basis each night.  Mornings can be a frosted wonder waiting for the sun to rise up over the mountains and bring on the warmth and glow of the brilliant fall colors. Golden fields with flashy orange, yellow, purple and red foliage anchored to a back drop of the constant steady green of the pine and fir trees of the Okanogan.  Bikin...

Once again tomorrow early in the morning is the opening of the most popular hunting event in Methow Valley: Deer season. The RV's are pouring in and most campgrounds are full of the excited outdoor adventurists both locals and visitors alike.  Wear bright orange if wandering into the wilderness areas over the next two weeks. This is especially important because as far as I can tell, even though you can hunt in all 39 counties of Washington State, the majority of hunters choose the Methow Valley as their prime destination!  And can you blame them with the vast wild lands that surround the valley and that you are allowed to hunt in? The news from Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is that this year you are also allowed to hunt cougar at the same time you can hunt deer. This is new...

Wow, raining on the East side of the North Cascades in beautiful Winthrop Washington. What a treat. As I gaze out the window of the Mazama Windermere Real Estate Office, I can see the early signs that fall is here. The stunning purple of the walls of Flag mountain and Lucky Jim Bluff are accented by golden vegetation creating a striking backdrop to the main artery in and out of the Methow Valley, State Route 20.  Soon the trees will turn golden, accented by reds, purples and oranges of the diverse ecosystem we enjoy here in beautiful Methow Valley.  The Larch trees will begin to turn that amazing fire orange which makes fall hiking such a treat.

Last night I saw a brief news blurb about two differing opinions on technology.  One side claimed we are slowing down and there are no great economic opportunities in our technology future , and the other side claimed there is so much new technology coming our way, but it will be very advanced and only benefit highly skilled job seekers.  I tend to believe the latter (MIT Scholar) simply because it is a slightly happier story about job opportunities in USA, but in any case technology is a big part of any REALTORS tool kit so you the Methow Valley real estate consumer can benefit.  Here is one emerging service in Methow Valley real estate where the Buyer, Seller and the Realtor will all save time win-win-win. The new technologies for REALTORS revolve around utilizing the data phones and ...

Many people in Winthorp Washington  and Methow Valley watched rain, and then more rain and then even more rain pour down swelling the rivers and streams in North Central Washington.  Flood warnings are in effect for North Central Washington. Here is a great website that monitors the Methow River  in Winthrop Washington Twisp and Pateros:  http://www.methowvalley.com/highwater.html Here you can peruse various graphs about the water in the Methow River and check out a web cam  (that constantly refreshes) of the Methow River in Winthrop that is updated every 5 seconds or so.  The National Weather Service has quite a bit of information on their site.  This map monitors the status of the rivers in our area http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/index.php?wfo=otx&view=1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1&toggles=10,7,8,2...

The Methow Valley will enjoy an abundance of rain this weekend.  Although many folks are concerned about the possibility of rivers, creeks and streams flooding a good way to take your mind off this is to get out to the garden. Here are three tasks that are great to do in the rain:  Great time to transplant your perennials, small trees and shrubs.  So grab the shovel and start redesigning the landscape around your home.  Make sure to dig a big hole where the plant is to go first, and then take plenty of dirt around the plant you are moving and soon you will see the plants will act like they have never moved.  Some plants like thyme and many bulb varieties like to move in fall, but I have been successful in spring with the right weather - rain and with lots of dirt around the roots. Rain ...

Tuesdays are often very busy days for Methow Valley Realtors.  Tuesdays typically start off with an early morning office meeting with staff and fellow Realtors, followed by Broker Open Houses. What is a Broker Open House?  All the licensed realtors in Methow Valley are invited to come see the newly listed Homes and Land on market. It is yet another free service provided by the realtor to the Seller who is trying to sell their home in a tough market.   By hosting an informational preview of a Seller's home or land in Methow Valley, the Methow Valley Broker then increases the likelyhood of a sale for their seller.  It is a bit of work to host a party for the large number of active brokers in the Methow Valley because the realtor must prepare packets of information and also often times ser...
