The Pacific Biodiversity Institute is looking into the population of grey squirrels in Mazama, Winthrop Washington, Twisp, and Methow.  The vision of Kim Bondi to address this concern has launched an impressive volunteer project that many locals are now intimately involved in.  Spear headed by scientist Peter Morrison and team leader George Wooten, this exciting project has a lot more room for interested volunteers.  Here we see a quick introduction about the Grey Squirrel Project.   Here is a snippet of the volunteers award ceremony for the Grey Squirrel project in Methow Valley. The year is almost over and reviewing the year to date information as compared to last year shows a mixture of trends. The number of homes sold in Methow Valley has slightly increased.  However the average sale price has decreased by almost 50%, the median sale price also showing a decline for the year to date.  There is dramatic improvement of Average Time On Market at just 73 days. This is a very short turn around for the second home market especially in the north valley of Winthrop Washington and Mazama. Winthrop Washington hosts Christmas at the End of the Road every year. And over the decades it has grown and gotten better and better.  Some of the highlights this year were the ceremony to officially open the Winthrop Spring Creek Bridge.  This bridge can really be seen in all its glory from above the Ice Rink and looking over at all the great things that are happening in Winthrop Washington. Here is a snippet of the bridge ceremony, which was very special indeed: To wind things up from a long list of activities and events for any age is the annual fireworks show. Lots of snow followed by very cold temperatures are predicted this early winter/late fall 2011. The Washington State Department of Transportation has temporarily closed the North Cascades Highway with a predicted reopening on Monday November 21, 2011. One of the more exciting weekends in Methow Valley is right around the corner, That is right the celebration of all Hallowed Eve.  Starting off first thing Saturday Morning is the Loup Loup Ski Swap at the Agriplex in Omak.
