As I was driving through Tenino, I noticed the "The Giddy Up Coffee Corral" has finally opened for business.  The slogan on the sign intrigued me- "Cute, Friendly, and Dang Good Coffee."  (even though I don't drink coffee!) so I stopped in and talked to the ownder Cari Dinelt. Her philosophy is a simple one. Provide the best coffee she can serve, have fresh local cookies and food items, and be friendly. If the espresso pours too quickly (or too slowly) she will throw it out rather than risk the customer have a bitter cup. Who knew that it takes between 35-30 seconds to draw the perfect shot of espresso and that you have to pour it into the milk/water within 15 seconds? Did you know that? It's amazing what I learned. They did a soft opening last month and are steadily seeing an increase ...

BREATHE 4 TOMORROW FOUNDATION was founded to "make life easier one breathe at a time." It was created by my dear friend Sarah Morris & my stepson Aaron Greene. Together with the support of other great people we plan to assist with the financial struggles families face when dealing with Cystic Fibrosis. We can't put a price tag on it, nor can we begin to describe the stresses that go along with this life threatening disease. Unfortunately, with many assistance programs there is this "gap". The "gap" consists of the people who make too much to be eligible for assistance, but not enough to make it, and have to struggle. We are going to change the lives of our children with CF by offering scholarships, so they can live their "dreams" and have something to work towards. Going through high sc...

I have been asked several times in the last several weeks aboout the Capital Gains Tax...Do sellers owe Capital Gains and how much? Here is the new rule as I understand it...keep in mind I AM NOT A TAX PROFFESSIONAL... I always recommend that you speak directly to a tax consultant to verify any & all information! The IRS allows principal-residence sellers to qualify for up to $250,000 in tax-free capital gains (up to $500,000 for a qualified married couple) if they owned and occupied their primary home at least 24 of the last 60 months before its sale. Broken down..If you have lived in your home for at least 24 of the last 60 months prior to selling your home and DO NOT make a profit of more than $250,000 for singles or a profit more than $500,000 for married couples you will not owe an...

Here is a continuation of of my 2009 Flood Blog...this is Day 2! My friends Lisa, Julia and I headed in to Tumwater Falls to see how the Deschutes River was holding up here's what we saw...   The Pic on to the Right above is a Park sign...I couldn't believe my eyes...     We decided to head home and get some dry clothes on...I took a few more pics of the Brewery Warehouses on the way...   Once we were changed we headed back down to see if we could assist anyone in Centralia...unsure if we could find access we gave it a whirl...we made a detour into the little town of Bucoda...  This was the entrance into Bucoda, not a good sign...there are many elderly and fixed income folks in this rural town...so we will come back to assist them with clean up... Notice in the above far right pic...the...

On January 7th 2009 we got word that with the record snow fall combine with a visiting"Pineapple Express" we were likely to see some flooding throughout Western Washington...and boy they weren't kidding!! I headed out that Wednesday morning to snap some photos of the preperation down in lewis County as they had been hit hard in December 2007 with the Interstate ending up under 10ft of water and I was curious to watch the progression and document it...i didn't want to miss a thing this time! I won't bore you with a bunch of words as I have found that the pictures say it all...So let's begin! This was across the street from my house in the Tenino City Park...we have no river or stream so imagine my suprise when I stepped out my front door! We actually had some rapids...i jumped in my car ...

So during our crazy snow storm I walked my little behind down to the local library and unexpectedly found a treasure! What you ask?... I found a great documentary film on the Thurston County area and felt compelled to share it! The name of the movie is "Go With The Flow"  and it gave a great history of our area...from the Native Americans who first called this beautiful land their home...the joining of Washington into the Union and the selection of Olympia as our State Capitol. This film gives you a glimpse into the minds and the lives of the people who made Thurston County what it is today including the Schmidt family and their brewery, the plethera of musicians drawn to the area for it's relaxed feel(it even had a clip of an old friend playing in his band Fitz of Depression) and we ca...

Let me just say I am saddened to see that Betty Paige, a woman I have always admired for her tenacity & wild streak passed on last Thursday from a heart attack!... and more than that I can't believe I didn't hear about it until today! Have I had my head in the sand? Or maybe in the snow:)? For heavens sake she was 85 so I guess I shouldn't be too terribly shocked but geez...I just added her to my friends list on Myspace two weeks ago!(Who new she had a Myspace page...Huh!) Well needless to say, her story is a great one...you can purchase the DVD The Notorius Betty Paige at http://www.thenotoriousbettiepage.com/. It's a great film! And for those of you who may not be familiar with her work, she put pin ups & centerfolds on the map in the 50's! She took a lot of heat for being so scandalo...

I wanted to give a shout out for our friends Adam Craig & Telluride an up and coming high energy Country Music Band... Adam Craig is one of our own hometown boys, born & raised in Tenino, Wa and  graduating from Tenino High School in 2001. Adam aspired to pave his own way in the Country Music arena, so shortly after graduation he set off for Nashville to realize his dreams as a Lead Vocalist & Lead Guitarist... In 2006, Adam along with four other aspiring musicians came together to form Telluride...opening for some big names in Country Music including  LeAnn Rimes, Big & Rich, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Lonestar. They also got to share the stage with Kid Rock as he jumped up to jam with them during a show...AND I MISSED IT!! Ugh!! The band has also opened for such classics from my generation ...

God Bless Jummpin Jammerz that's all I can say! If you are like me and have an unadulterated passion for footed P.J.'s you have to check out this site... http://www.jumpinjammerz.com/ They have the best jammies ever for all sizes and shapes! My son shared in this passion with me but as he grew I found it ridiculously hard to find footed pajamas for him. All the department stores carried boy sizes. So, one day severals years ago I decided to go on a hunt and I finally found the Jumpin' Jammerz site. Every Christmas I would get my son and I a new pair! He passed away in '06 and met his maker in his footed J's...wish I could have been a fly on the wall for that! Not to fret though, for now my son's half sister, one of his cousins and his Aunt are all on the bandwagon so now I am able to ca...

Here is some great information I thought valuable to pass along, it was sent to me from Mike Nichols from Venture Bank Motrgage Services! Let's Talk about the HERA Tax Credit   I have heard a lot about how the HERA Tax Credit is helping move homes. I want to make perfectly clear that it is a great tool; but, it's not free.   The recent passage of the Housing and Economic Recovery Act brought forth big buzz in regards to the $7500 tax credit that will be provided to homebuyers. Let's review this subject in a bit more detail since January 31 is just around the corner! First, in order to claim and receive the tax credit, the filer(s) must be first-time homebuyers and they must close on the purchase of the home between April 9, 2008 and July 1, 2009. The actual tax credit will equal 10 perc...
