As many Washingtonians are following Governor Inslee’s Stay at Home Order, you may be getting a little bored.  Yesterday, April 9th, was the warmest day of 2020 here in Tenino, WA and what a better day to feel motivated to start a vegetable garden at my home! Working with What you Have I had a couple of issues.  One, I didn’t have many resources as I wasn’t going to take a trip out and had to use whatever supplies I already had on hand. What you don’t see in the video is I had to pilfer potting soil from some of the smaller flower pots I had around as I only had one bag of soil to use. And the seeds are a little old so we’ll see if they can spout.  What is a Victory Garden? The term, “Victory Garden” was coined during World War I to encourage people to plant and grow their own food.  No...

This weekend was perfect fall weather – the air had a cool bite to it with the sun filtering through the autumn red and yellow leaves.  This made for the perfect time for a short hike on the one-mile Tenino City Park Trail Loop.    We started our hike behind the Train Depot Museum and looped around to the ballfields, and along our wooded journey, we came across this tree that had fallen over.       I’m not sure what caused this tree to fall but I’m sure when it did, it was heard!   The Tenino City Park is small in area but packs a punch with a ton of activities.  At the park, you can:    Camp at the campground site Play baseball and soccer Take a dip at the Quarry Swimming Pool Visit the Train Depot Museum See the first schoolhouse of Tenino Visit the Veteran’s Memorial Hike the park t...

I recently moved to a five-acre parcel in Tenino WA with a really, really long gravel driveway. I had no idea how I was going to roll the garbage and recycling bins down this monster of a driveway until I did a Google search and discovered others have this same problem! I found www.GarbageCommander.com sells hooks and hitches. I didn't want anything permanent and this hook is perfect. Here's a quick video I did demonstrating how easy it is even for me to hook your bin up and drive it down to the curb!   I just really like this product and wanted to share it with you. This is not an endorsement of any kind - just something that helps with trash day.

Looking for a great trail to walk, run or bike?  Be sure to check out the Chehalis Western Trail that runs north and south through Olympia to Rainier, WA.  This trail was a railroad line that is now a flat, paved trail, perfect for getting some fresh air and burning a few calories. Today, we walked a couple of miles on the trail outside of Tenino. We saw a few friends along the way and stopped by the Monarch Sculpture Park.  The Monarch Sculpture Park is open to the public, seven days a week from dawn to dusk.  The sculptures in the park are a wide mix of styles and materials; some sculptures are whimsical while others are somber; some are interactive while others invoke quiet contemplation.  Even on a foggy cloudy morning like today, the artwork was colorful and cheerfully rose from t...

Here is the Tenino and Bucoda WA real estate market update for September 2015. Tenino and Bucoda real estate market snapshot.  As fall approaches, the market is still going strong.  These market stats are not SCARY at all! All the numbers look great for the Tenino and Bucoda areas! Sales Prices are up. Number of home sales is up. Inventory numbers have improved.  Between the buyer activity and the fewer listings on the market, this has pushed this area into a strong seller's market. Number of listings has improved with fewer homes on the market, leaving buyers with fewer choices and sellers with less competition. What does all this mean? In a nutshell, the market has improved and is still improving for sellers, who are able to sell their home and in many cases, seeing a profit. Buyers s...

Here is the Tenino and Bucoda WA real estate market update for June 2015. Why live in Tenino?Tenino WA is located Southeast of Olympia off of Old Highway 99. There is some dispute how Tenino got its name; some say it is from a Native American word meaning "junction" or "meeting place;" others say it was named after the railroad engine numbered "10-9-0." Why live in Bucoda?Bucoda WA is just south of Tenino. Bucoda's name is clearly documented. It was named after three men in the town's mining business: James Buckley, Samuel Coulter and John David. Bucoda was the location of the territory's penitentiary in the late 1800s. In 1887, the penitentiary was relocated to Walla Walla, WA.Schools: Many residents of these towns are in the Tenino School District and Centralia School District. Both to...

Speechless Sunday-Serendipity Sunday-Look into My EyesMeet Shadow Every year to celebrate my birthday, I go, along with my husband and two wolf-loving friends to Wolf Haven International, a wolf sanctuary in Tenino WA.It is a non-profit organization that rescues wolves, wolfdogs and coyotes that have been mistreated by owners (or those trying to make a fast buck), bought illegally or injured. They educate people on how important wolves are to the environment and ecosystem, but NOT for having as pets. They are "family" animals, in other words their "pack" is their family and they are very close, but that is the only type of family they need.  Here is a bit about Shadow's history:Shadow is an energetic, playful wolf, who lived in four homes during the first few months of his life. He is a...
