What are you? And where do you come from? Well, I'm Hmong. What, you've never heard of it?! Just kidding. Not everyone has... No, not "Mongolian".. and it's not Mong. And it's okay if you haven't heard of it... Let me tell you what it is, and let me tell you the beginning of my story.Recently, I started thinking: What's the difference between ethnicity and nationality, and do people really think about that? And when people ask me, what am I supposed to answer with? For a long period of time, I didn't know how to answer. Do I say I'm Thai? Laotion? Hmong? I was born in Thailand. However, that doesn't make me Thai. My parents were born in Laos, and that doesn't make them (and me) Laotion either. So what are you?! I'm simply Hmong. Born without a nationality, only the unique ethnicity of H...

Cedarbrook Lodge, Urban Oasis... What a wonderful way to end the week! I was in a Leadership Boot Camp this past week with several of my coworkers who were here for an all week intensive. I was brought in the last two days to help one of the teams create and deliver their presentation. We were at the Cedarbrook Lodge located just 5 minutes from Seatac Airport. Though you’d never know it, in fact you’d think you were in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains and far away from the urban metro area. Cedarbrook Lodge sits within a beautiful 18 acre wooded campus. As I wandered about the first day I was truly impressed with the landscaping and buildings. As a native Northwesterner I’ve made my share of attempts to transplant indigenous wild flora and fauna over the years, all to no avail. Ye...

I Stumbled Upon Hippocats. Last week was amazing! I was flying down to First American Title, HQ in Santa Ana, California to spend a few days with some of my (social media type friends and) co-workers for a 2 day retreat with Jeff Turner of Zeek Interactive, Jay Thompson, the Phoenix Real Estate Guy (and as of today, also now at Zillow), Stacey Harmon, and Tamara Dorris. As it turned out my flight ended up being 3 hours late. First response, I’m mad, then sad, I’m missing a really great dinner with friends in Santa Ana! Yet not one to stay down for long I went exploring and to my delight I started discovering the wonderful art that is everywhere at the Seatac International Airport. Just before boarding my flight from N Gate I stumbled upon some works in clay by local artists. They were a...

Health Care and Toys - Country Doctor Community ClinicHealth Care and Toys - Country Doctor Community ClinicIn a world of impersonal health care, it is a relief to know that there are clinics that are truly committed to serving the public. Country Doctor Community Clinic is a local non-profit organization that maintains two clinic sites, Carolyn Downs Family Medical Center and Country Doctor Community Clinic. Country Doctor Community Clinic was founded in 1971 by a group of community activists that recognized the need for medical care services within their neighborhood. Country Doctor originally began as an all-volunteer free clinic, offering medical care to patients only in the evening. As the community’s reliance on Country Doctor Community Clinic grew, the organization was able to gr...

Finally, some beautiful weather here in Seattle. We've had the most spectacular weather for at least the past week. It's been well worth the wait. My husband and I decided to go for a walk at Highline Botanical Gardens, since we've never been there before. We were very pleasantly surprised by the beautiful garden that awaited us. Apparently it's a work in progress, but there are 3 acres of gardens there now, including a rose garden complete with tall Roman-style pillars, a garden that's dedicated to Elda Behm called Paradise Garden, and a Japanese Garden. Here are some pictures that I took of the garden; they don't quite do it justice. By the way, the garden is right next to the Seatac Community Center on S. 137th St and 24th Ave. S. in Seatac. Thanks for stopping by my blog! You can rea...

A: Three or four, if you time it right! The Saturday before Easter was a whirlwind for my 6 year-old son and I.  We left the house at about 8:30 in order to be at the first Easter Egg Hunt, held at Sea-Tac's Angle Lake Park, at 9:00 a.m.  Despite arriving early, there was no parking so we had to park at the neighboring Alaska Airlines corporate parking lot and risk getting towed.  With all the people parking there, though, they would have had to call every surrounding city in order to get enough tow trucks! Besides, these hunts begin and end quickly, and we were out of there by 9:20.If you've never been to Angle Lake, it's a lovely park with a covered BBQ area, play equipment, and sandy beach area with a dock for the fishermen.  It was very picturesque that morning, with the sun's rays r...

The agenda for Washington State's Real Estate Commission meeting arrived earlier this week.  I've been interested in these meetings for some time and plan to attend.  The meeting is 0:00 AM next Monday, December 3rd at the Double Tree Hotel in Seatac.  I am particularly interested in the Education Sub-Committee's Report and meeting those commissioners.  Future issues have my concern more that the current items on their portion of the agenda. The Changing Business Practices Sub-Committee is also reporting on the potential use of Licensee Finger Printing and we'll hear from the Mortgage Sub-Committee.You can sign up to receive Commission notices at the WA DOL Real Estate Home page ... www.dol.wa.gov/business/realestate/
