Benjamin's Carpet One in Richland has introduced a colorful new spring collection of door mats. Whats so special about these new mats though, is that twenty-five percent of the proceeds from their sale goes directly to the fight against breast cancer. There is a great selection of carpet door mats featuring springtime motifs to selects from and of course a standard pink “hope mat that is universally associated with breast cancer research. The cost of each mat is $24.99 and considering the cause that they support, they are well worth it! Originally posted at fighting breast cancer.

Deciding to buy a home is definitely a big decision for anyone, even more so for a couple just starting out. Many believe renting is the way to go but I beg to differ. Now is the best time to buy properties due to low market value of houses caused by the current economic crisis. You can be rest assured that, everything should sky rocket as soon as the economy stabilizes. The real estate industry will recover, it always does. If there was one thing people need, shelter would be on the top of almost everyone’s list. There are however some things that the newlyweds need to be careful of. Money causes great tension in any relationship whether it be just blossoming or on its golden year. Money coupled with unmet mortgage debts is a relationship killer. It’s not her house. It’s not his house....

A few years back you were just freshly out of college and ready to rule the world! First thing on your mind is to move out of the house, away from the luxury of mommy’s homemade cooking and dad’s numerous house rules. Ah… Finally, independence! You go rent a townhome or condo unit and living the life. But time pass and you are now engage to the love of your life, living together in your cozy condo unit. Soon, you will decide to have your own children and time will come for to move in to a bigger space. Would you stick to condo living and just purchase a bigger unit? Or would you move into a traditional home with a large private backyard for all recreational and entertainment needs. Lifestyle is definitely an issue. If you’re up for all the activities of traditional living, such as mowin...

A single guy’s townhome digs can become a bit too forbidding, so take coldness out of condo living with these tips. A lot of bachelors, young or otherwise, tend to fill their condo units with a lot of black leather, glass, and steel, giving it a cold feel and dated 1980s look. Add warm accent colors to your palette, such as cinnamon, terracotta, and sage green to small accessories like your throw pillows, curtains, bed linen. Give your urban pad a natural connection with earthy textures and materials that are exciting to the eye and the touch. For your cabinets and furnishings, use wood paneling or wood veneer with nice grains, furniture with woven fiber, soft shag rugs, and tiny glass mosaic borders in your bathroom for accents. Contrast sharp edges with soft curves in your furnishings...

I’m not going to tell you to have coffee boiling away and bread a-baking in that homely oven, and soothing music drifting through the house. Those things are superficial and house buyers are not easily fooled. They have come to carefully inspect your home. But some things might, things like these. Nothing puts off eager buyers more than dogs smell, cat smell or for most pets for that matter. Just because you as owners don’t notice it, you can’t guarantee the buyers won’t as well. Put away those old artifacts and mementos that you may collected through the years. Get rid of them all, except perhaps your best pieces and arrange them tastefully so they are shown off to their finest. Be realistic on the price. If you really want to sell your property, you have to compete, and that includes ...

The American Chamber of Commerce Research Association (ACCRA, now the Council for Community and Economic Research) has released the ACCRA Cost of Living Index for the third quarter of 2008. It shows the Tri-Cities leading the way for the lowest cost of living in Washington state. The Tri-Cities' composite index is 88.9, which is down one percent from the previous quarter and 3.7 percent lower than the same period in 2007. ABC News is reporting: " New-home sales ticked up 4.1 percent over the prior month during August, according to the latest data from the Commerce Department. That's right. No need to clean your glasses off -- home sales increased in what has been a slumping housing market." Isn't this great news! Seems like forever and a day we've heard nothing but bad news about our industry. Rep. Larry Haler, R-Richland Washington, was recently awarded the highly regarded Cornerstone Award by the Association of Washington Business. The respected award is presented to legislators who promote Washington businesses by voting more than 80 percent of the time in favor of legislation that supports the business community. “Throughout the session I worked hard to support legislation that would create positive policies to improve Washington’s business climate. It’s nice to be recognized for my work with, and on behalf of the business community,” said Haler. “Washington needs lawmakers who recognize the intensity of global competition. Business people in our state do not take success for granted. Neither should state leaders. Good times today can disappear tomorrow if we become compl...
