For the love of Maps... I have loved maps since I was a half-pint. Not that I’m all that tall now, but back when I was 8 or so to about 12, I remember being enamored by them. I was one of those kids that ordered weather maps from the back page ads in Boys' Life Magazine. We often went to the local library during that time and I was fascinated to look over maps by early explorers of the Northwest like Lewis & Clark, Captain Vancouver and Cook, etc. Out of that experience I made maps about our adventures in the woods across the street from our home. I detailed the trails, where our tree houses were, where our rafts were hidden at the big pond, where our stashes of pop, candy, and tools were kept, and where our super secret emergency meeting place was (by the old abandoned mining shaft dee...

Newcastle broker certified as home marketing specialist Newcastle resident Greg Lussier, of Choice One Realty Group and Better Properties Real Estate, has been awarded the Certified Home Marketing Specialist Designation from Martha Webb, the woman credited with launching the staging industry. When you were in elementary school, did you ever imagine there would be a time when you were too busy to eat? Doubtful. With the perfect combination of food and friends, lunch was every kid’s favorite class. Fast-forward to your demanding adult lifestyle, and you’ve likely found that setting aside the time to eat often falls to the bottom of an overflowing to-do list. While cultures around the world make family, social, and sit-down meals a priority, the North American rat-race mentality has led to isolated meals on the go. To combat this epidemic, pair the daily necessity for food with healthy human connections by adding weekly or monthly social dine-ins to the top of your priority list. To spend time connecting with family and friends this holiday season and throughout the year, just ...

Holiday cheer may be everywhere, but how do you inject your interiors with the same festive feel? When you spread the merriment around your home, you make a bigger impact than you get by adding a major focus to one room. Take it a step further by appealing to all the senses with your seasonal decor: Scented candles are a welcome addition to any room, and those that feature the aromas of your favorite holiday dishes lend a nostalgic feel to your surroundings. Visual displays can consist of little vignettes here and there. Include some music in the mix, whether it’s holiday-specific or just celebratory in tone. Tactile experiences come from plush fabrics, such as velvet pillows and cushy rugs. Click the article to continue reading. For more weekly articles and information on Newcastle's R...

Today’s dining rooms often have several identities. With the use of a foldable table and the addition of a couple of comfortable club chairs, a dining room can also function as a sitting or entertainment area. A fixed, formal dining table can become an office desk, a craft or sewing worktable, or a display area for collectibles or photos. Shelves or bookcases add storage and an inviting library ambience; bookcases that are low can assume the role of a sideboard for serving guests. Click the Article to continue reading. Time line chart showing average sold prices in Newcastle WA. Blue line represents closed sales in 2010. Green line represents closed sales in 2011. This year we have seen the market perform monthly opposite of 2010, i.e. average pricing was up in Feb 2011 but lower during the same month in 2010. However, looking at the overall line trend it still appears the area is still showing signs of slightly falling prices over the course of the year. Click the chart to view in detail. Is your dining room living up to its full potential? If not, you’re not alone. This area is often neglected, with the exception of holiday gatherings and the occasional dinner party. But it’s a shame to waste precious space, which is why your dining room should welcome you on a regular basis. Since the space tends to be more visible than most, keeping it neat and tidy is important, but don’t treat it like a museum. Instead, make it a multipurpose room to better suit your needs. With the constant evolution of style and centuries of interior inspirations, it’s no wonder that defining a personal decor aesthetic can be so complicated. Professional decorators create cohesive designs from notes and observations with ease; however, if you’re embarking on your own renovation, it’s important to follow a style path. The essence of style can’t always be captured in one word, but identifying what category you gravitate toward will help you avoid unnecessary or ill-fitting purchases, while allowing you to create a home you love. click the article below to continue reading. There is an upside to investing in a tired, old space: you get to create the room of your dreams. That was the case for Jeff Schlarb, principal designer at San Francisco–based Green Couch Interior Design Inc., and his wife, Tray, an interior designer for the firm. They bought a 1925 Mediterranean-style house in San Francisco with the intention of renovating every square inch, and, although the design duo did an outstanding job of revamping the entire residence, the kitchen conversion is nothing short of incredible.
