2010 was a devastating year for condominium values in Liberty Lake – seeing a 25% decrease in the price of the average Condo sold  compared to the previous year. Since the lows of 2010; however, the price of the average condo sold has slowly crept backup. Liberty Lake Food Drive 2010 Scott Lewis of the Scott Lewis Group at Keller Williams has begun the Liberty Lake Neighborhood Food Drive in conjunction with Spokanes 2nd Harvest. Scott Lewis at Keller Williams Spokane Realty specializes in home sales and home sales data for Liberty Lake and sourrounding the areas or Otis Orchard, East Farm, Green Acres and Newman Lake. The first part of April provides the following Liberty Lake home sales data: 157 Active Listings 25 Pending Listings 74 Expired Listings and 44 Closed Listings in the last 6 months. Oftentimes people doubt the effectiveness of green cleaning products. After all, it would seem Mother Nature would lose in a head-to-head competition with the chemicals industry.   The green mortgage market is currently dominated by the faster moving smaller mortgage lenders right now, such as Norwich and Peterborough, Co-operative Bank and the Ecology Building Society. UK seems to leading the pack on this, so hopefully some more US ones will come on board.   A Green Mortgage, otherwise known as Energy Efficiency Mortgages, has increased in recent years. This is  to the increased public awareness of energy consumption as well as the financial advantages associated with owning an energy efficient home.  Although not common...They DO exsist! :) While traditional mortgages are based on a person's debt to income ratio only, a green mortgage applies the money saved each month in energy cost as income. This allows home buyers to sometimes qualify for a larger loan. This also presents an opportunity for those wishing to remortgage, since energy saving home improvements can be applied once an existing home is certified by a home energy rater.   Structural Engineer is a person engaged in the professional practice of consultation, investigation, evaluation, planning or design of structures (buildings, bridges, or other structures) to safely resist vertical and horizontal loads which include gravity, earth pressure, wind and seismic forces. The structural engineer is licensed through examination by the state to use the title "Structural Engineer". We don't have many of these in Spokane, but I have found a few on Google. As a "reflective thinker", I have often wondered if the Green Movement would fall by the wayside with the recent economic downturn.    Thoughts of post apocalyptic wastelands have danced in my head...yes I know that sounds a little dramatic :) However, despite its reputation for being expensive, there are proven and substantial financial gains associated with green standards.  On average, green building increases construction costs by only 1%-2%.  A prime example is Naval Base Building 850 in Port Hueneme, CA, which was constructed using sustainable principles and is estimated to save 64% in lighting, 67% in heating, and 43% in cooling expenses each year. Some practices, such as using local and renewable materials or passive solar design, date back millennia - the Anasazi indian tribe in the Southwest built entire villages so that all the homes received solar heat in the winter. There are few things as amazing as walking through some of the preserved homes!!! The contemporary green building movement arose out of the need and desire for more energy efficient and environmentally friendly building practices. Why Go Green? On any given day, the average American household contains over 30 harmful and damaging chemical cleaning products. Six of which are located in the bathroom and kitchen according to Debra Lynn Dadd in her book, Nontoxic and Natural. There are alternatives cleaning solutions and methods which are just as effective and are less expensive than chemical cleaners. Big industry has picked up on the green trend as evidenced by Green Works produced by Clorox. However, the products are expensive. Few people realize that making your own cleaning solutions can save you tons of money. Using products like white vinegar, essential oils, castile soap, and herbs, your home can become clean without chemicals. People seem to think information they put on the internet is transient - here today, gone tomorrow. Increasingly, we are finding data doesn't disappear when you delete it. It may be automatically saved by Facebook or Google. You may think you got rid of something but it can come back to bite you. If you are 18, you don't think about your 42-year-old self looking for a job or promotion. People don't consider that long-term risk. I think this could become a serious problem in future. Young people seem very blasé about their privacy, but their opinions may change in years to come. People should consider what information they are letting out about themselves and to whom. People don't think about employers reading their Facebook pages and kids don't think about their parents going online to check up on them. But an increasing number do. Employers don't want to take risks with employees. One way they can find out who they're hiring is by checking their Facebook page. Recent research by an American university found 23 per cent of employers reviewed candidates' profiles on social networking sites.  It surprised me how many were using sites like Facebook to screen applicants.
