I really like shopping at my local Kirkland Safeway store, Live Search Local: Safeway Stores located at 12519 NE 85th St, Kirkland WA  98033.  It is actually located on Rose Hill, in Kirkland.  I guess that I am partial to Safeway because I have learned their products, their specials, and their similar layouts in Safeway stores from Alaska to Arizona.  The employees at the Kirkland Safeway store nearly always call me by name during checkout.  They usually ask me if I want help with my groceries out to the car.  That is rare customer service these days.Best of all, they are not pretentious.  They offer good service at a fair price, which is what most people with bills and mouths to feed need.  It is always nice to chat with one of the local high school kids on the way to my car.  If you ... 03/30/2007

Fixing the Kirkland crawl (WSDOT Kirkland Nickel project)  Driving  on I 405 at any time during the day, especially during commute times, can be aggrevating for sure.  There are several "bottlenecks" that can back traffic for miles.  One of the most aggrevating is the "Kirkland crawl", between Hyw 522 and NE 85th.  In 2006, the WSDOT started the Kirkland Nickel project to widen the freeway between NE 124th and NE 85th, and the Totem Lake station project to relieve traffic congestion in this area.The Kirkland Nickel Stage 1 Project is being built to improve personal and freight mobility and reduce foreseeable traffic congestion in a manner that is safe and reliable. King County growth booms. The World's Ugliest Mall?By Greg Perry The award for the world's ugliest mall, just might go to Kirkland's Totem Lake Mall.  In fact, there are 2 malls, the upper mall and lower mall.  Come to think of it, they're both just plain ugly....and the lower mall may qualify as the region leader in empty square footage for a retail center. The city of Kirkland is aggressively replacing a on-site sewer systems (OSS) with their city limits.  In Kirkland, there are many properties dependent upon septic systems, many of which are aged and failing.  Septic systems are intended to be a short-term solution for handling wastewater with an expected life of roughly 30 years.  In order to provide long-term benefits of sanitary sewer to hazardous septic system situations, the City developed the Emergency Sewer Program in 1999. By Greg Perry No denying it, we definitely have a bubble.  The NWMLS stats absolutely prove it.  We have a real estate agent bubble on the Eastside.  Since February 28 of 2001 and February 28 and 2007 the agents ranks have swelled from 2,924 to 5,258....a staggering increase of 2,334 agents or an increase of 80% in 6 years!.  In 2001 we had 3,470 ACTIVE listings, in 2007 only 2,425 ACTIVE listings or a decrease of about 30%.    Here's the deal, we have 2,334 additional agents in the market place listing and showing 1045 fewer properties.   If these numbers averaged out evenly to every agent, unit production per agent is cut  by over half in the last 6 years!  Why, oh why would would anyone want to be a real estate agent?  Especially a new agent entering this market?  By Greg Perry One of my greatest sources of entertainment is to ask another real estate agent, or to overhear agents talk about the market.  Some agents are "glass 1/2 full" people and will always portray a positive spin, while others can't wait for the bottom to drop to fulfill a 10 year prophesy that "this market can't last, the bottom is just around the corner."  I think the truth mostly lies in the agent's personal experience at the time.  If they haven't sold anything for awhile, the market is slow, if they've had a couple recent sales, it's hot.
