While I'm killing time waiting for May so I can start the next round of market reports, I found this little gem while I was browsing around on BoingBoing. Maryhill, in Goldendale, Washington, has become the site for a variety of gravity driven sports like downhill skateboarding and street luge. This footage is from the Maryhill Freeride event, which apparently doesn't have a lot of rules and allows multiple riders. This is an impressive ride by a couple of very gutsy women - the only thing that gives me pause is the lack of protective covering - I've had my share of road rash from cycling, and it ain't any fun.   Wordless Wednesday - The Columbia River Gorge From Stonehenge   I took this photo on Sunday when our boys and I visited Stonehenge, a unique World War One war memorial just outside Goldendale, Washington. I love the orchards, autumn colors and arid bluffs across the river from this vantage point. It's such a contrast of topography, truly representing this area.     10/25/2011

  The Columbia Gorge's Own "Stonehenge"   Built as a war memorial for locals lost in World War I, Stonehenge stands high on a bluff overlooking the Columbia River, just outside Goldendale, Washinton. Based on the original Stonehenge in England, it was built in 1918 by Samuel Hill, an original settler of this area and appears as the original might have before it was ravaged by centuries. Just after the war, Hill had visited the original Stonehenge where he heard the theory that the structure was originally built as a place for pagan human sacrifices. Upon hearing the theory, he stated: "After all our civilization, the flower of humanity still is being sacrificed to the god of war on fields of battle." And so came the inspiration for the memorial. Hill's own tomb sits just below Stoneheng... 10/25/2011

The day was overcast and dreary, a true autumn afternoon.
