Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and cauldron bubble. Chef Bernie loves to cook, and I love to let him. This morning, as he worked in the kitchen, sunshine streamed in through a window creating a very seasonal (Halloween) scene. I felt tempted to ask if he’s added the fillet of a fenny snake, eye of newt, toe of frog, wool of bat, and tongue of dog?  No, McKinley would never let him use the tongue of a dog! Regardless, I’m relieved that it’s my sister’s weekend to host Sunday dinner at our Multigenerational home in Camas. Can you blame me? And as the head dishwasher and cleaning person, the messy stove is already spooking me.

Some books leave an impact on you. This one was a quick read but had huge lifetime lessons for me.  I wanted to share it with you so you can share it with others too.  MJ Charles has written an important book now available on Amazon. com:  "Surviving the Business of Dying, A Guide to Why Final Papers Matter" about who, what, when, where and how to survive when you lose a spouse. It is interesting, humorous, and VERY detailed. It has lots of great helpful lists and insights. I read it in one night and I put reminder "posty" notes on several pages. One of the most blatant and glaring things I learned from this book is....write a will. Do it today.  MJ Charles explains who needs a will, how to find an attorney if you need one and many other practical things like: get 4-5 copies of the deat...

Camas is one of the most desirable towns in Clark County, Washington. It's no wonder too. Great schools, small town charm, plus natural beauty and plenty of recreation make this area popular with a number of home buyers. There are also plenty of different neighborhoods to choose from too; waterfront, rural, urban, suburban, etc. According to the latest market action reported by the Regional Multiple Listing Service, there is just 1.5 months of inventory available in Southwest Washington. Total sales are down a bit over last year, but that's mainly due to the lower inventory. The average sale price has increased 10.7% over 2016. Year to date, the marketing time average is 56 days.In Camas, inventory levels are about the same and prices have increased over last year by 10.3%. The median ...

This is the time of year when our Clark County Washington gardens really heat up and yeild the fruits ( and veggies) of our labors. What a treat it is to eat fresh vegetables from our own yard. Our neighbors also have gardens and we're all experiencing a bumper crop of cucumbers and squash. Therefore, we are sharing our excess with the local Food Bank. We are big fans of organic gardening and are adamant about using non-gmo and heritage seeds and starts. It takes some thought and planning to keep Monsanto out of the garden, but we think it's worth the effort. The bees, and our own health, are important.  Thanks Belinda Spillman for giving us a chance to share our garden philosophy. Here's a list of some farms where you can purchase "safe seeds."  We also have friends who own an organic...

Mom turned 90 years old this month, August 2, 2017 to be specific. We had a family reunion and party in her honor on the 6th of August.  Kids and grandkids, aunties and uncles, cousins and friends came from as far away as Colorado and Alaska. Fortunately, the rest live in either Oregon or Washingon. The above photo is of the core women in the family honoring our matriarch. The weather was extremely warm with atypically high humidity, but a misting fan helped us keep our cool for the outdoor dinner. She is a big fan of gardenias and I'd hoped my Hardy Gardenia plant would be in full bloom for the celebration to grace her table. Unfortunately, it waited until nearly a week later to explode in its full glory. These occasions remind me how much I treasure family time, and how lucky we are t...

Fresh cucumbers, walla walla sweets, beans, snow peas, and beets. These are a few of the veggies we've been enjoying of late from our Camas garden. However, one interesting squash variety has become a real favorite of our multi-generational family - pattypan squash.Pattypan squash is generally small, round and shallow, with scalloped edges that make it resemble a flying saucer. We try to pick them when they are on the small side as they are the most tender with a delicate buttery, or olive oil-like flavor. The small squash can be braised, steamed, roasted, or grilled whole. One of our favorite ways to enjoy them is to cut them in half, hollow out the center, and fill with turkey sausage, shallots, and mushrooms. A sprinkle of freshly grated Parmesan adds the finishing touch. You won't ...

Hiccups are normal in any business, but what do you do when you are a real estate agent with a broken ankle? So many questions ran through my head on how I could run my business and help my clients.  How am I suppose to show houses? Take pictures for a listing on crutches? Go up and down stairs? Yikes! Stairs! Oh, and don't forget to keep it elevated to avoid swelling. Thank goodness I picked a great team! They have helped me the last 5 weeks! Showing houses...done! Taking pictures...done! Stairs...avoided except for the ones in my own home. My clients have been well taken care of and I can't thank them enough. This wonderful cast will be off very soon and I can't wait to go out with my team! Your team is important! Make sure you pick a great one!
