One of our favorite trails in the Camas area is Lacamas Heritage Trail. The path is lined with towering evergreens, deciduous trees, and plenty of underbrush as it winds its way along Lacamas Creek and Lacamas Lake. The views are ever-changing too, depending upon the time of day, weather, or the season. It's a great trail for spotting wildlife. We've seen everything from deer to bobcats, geese, and great blue heron. The sightings add to the enjoyable experience of connecting with Nature. And by now, we all know how beneficial it is to take some time outdoors to soak up soothing views. It's good for what ails you.  We tend to use to the trail for exercise, therefore, we either run or walk it at a fast pace. Our white Golden Retriever, Mac is usually with us too. There are doggy bag dispe...

Camas Meadows Golf Club  Although my husband and I are not golfers, we enjoy the beautiful landscaping and natural setting of Camas Meadows Golf Club, which borders along one of our favorite running trail, Lacamas Heritage Trails.  As spring sets in, we are noticing more activity on the course, so we decided to explore it the other day. Camas Meadows features an amazing 18-hole Championship Public Golf Course designed to blend into the surrounding natural environment.  The 330-acre facility, located adjacent to Lacamas Heritage Trails and Lacamas Lake, utilizes 90 acres that are manicured and groomed, while the remaining 240 acres are preserved in their natural state. Winding tree-lined fairways and unique groomed meadows provide a pleasant experience for golfers of all levels.  Course ...

Heritage Trail in Camas, WA -  A Celebration for “The Man in the Hat”He impressed me from the very first day I saw him, in early 2007, while running the Heritage Trail in Camas. Tipping his blue hat, and giving a jaunty forehead salute, he wished me a cheerful “Good Morning.”  The good-energy vibes radiated from his bodySoon, I looked for him on every run. I enjoyed spotting him ahead in his signature blue hat. That first year, he turned around at the 2.5 mile marker. Late last year, I noticed he now turns back at the 1.5 mile marker post. Still quite impressive, 3 miles is a respectable distance for any age. Even though it's been years, I still look forward to meeting him along the winding route. His warm, and genuine friendship is always freely given, to me, and others he encounters o...

Sunday, Nature Calls. Duo Caught Bathing in Lacamas Creek.Today is Sunday, March 16th, 2014.  Most of the area runners were in Portland this morning for the annual Shamrock Run. It’s one of the biggest runs on the West Coast, and this runner has always enjoyed the event for fitness, and as a St. Patrick’s Day celebration. However, this morning, I decided to forego the crowds ( 35,000 participants) and enjoy the quiet of my favorite Camas, WA running trail. The trees and shrubs are beginning to spout tender green buds and a few of the wildflowers are blooming too. A light rain didn’t dampen my spirits as I ran the rocky trail that winds through trees, and along Lacamas Creek and Lacamas Lake. As I crossed one, of several bridges, I spotted this couple enjoying a morning bath. You’d think...

Kayaking the LaCamas Lake in Camas WA  I'll admit, I'm a novice kayaker. We've been on kayak trips in Hawaii and Florida with guides but today we took out our new red Tamarack 120 "sit-on-top" type kayaks. I stressed all this week before this water-bound trip. I was worried that I would fall in the water just getting onto my boat. I was worried I wouldn't be able to keep up with my husband that I have nicknamed "Sparky." I was afraid...       Yes, on the way out to the middle of the LaCamas lake...I was paddling and quickly falling behind. I couldn't keep up. It felt like I was "shoveling" the water the whole time. I fretted because a small wind was now coming up against my back and I might not be able to make it back to the launch area. But, lo and behold on the way back...I figured i...
