Birch Bay, Washington Homes Named by Archibald Menzies in the late 1700's, the Birch Bay area has always been a beautiful one. It was named Birch Bay because of the abundance of black birch trees that once grew in the area. There is also historical evidence that informs us that Semiahmoo, Lummi, and Nooksack Native American Tribes had inhabited this area since prehistoric times. I have shown homes and condos in Birch Bay, Washington many times over the past few months and it is apparent that the Birch Bay, Washington area is admired for many different reasons. Some like it as a vacation spot, some like the convenience of being so close to the Canadian border crossing, and some just like the small beach town feel to the area. There are many people who look for vacation homes here due to t...

Birch Bay Washington is one of the most affordable oceanfront locations along the west coast. Birch Bay is located just one hour south of Vancouver British Columbia and 2 hours north of Seattle which makes it an incredibly accessible location for both Canadians and Americans. Birch Bay has been a popular vacation destination for the last 100 years. In the beginning, Birch Bay was just a group of small humble cabins located along the shoreline. Over time, Birch Bay has grown slowly but steadily. While many of the small cabins still exist today, there are also modern condominiums and timeshares mixed in along the waterfront. The main road in Birch Bay follows along the large public beach, while most of the homes and condos are located on the other side of the road. One of the main summer ...

VETS: Coming home to our economy in such a state --they deserve all the help we can offer! Considering so many veterans are re-entering the workforce at once, they may need help settling back into life at home. In many cases, their former jobs may no longer exist! Hopefully the VA centers are able to kick in with job training and transition assistance. Many vets may be asking if their homes or mortgages serve their current needs. I know members of the Active Rain community are on the lookout for ways to be of assistance. Having some basic information about VA loans could come in handy. 100% PURCHASE FINANCING Veterans, surviving spouses or active duty military persons can secure a VA loan at very attractive terms. Not all banks can fund VA Loans so if you know a vet you can help by rese...

Birch Bay is the fastest growing area in Whatcom County. The bay itself has a huge tide flat of sand that is several square miles in size and bares itself at low tide. As the water returns to the tide flats over the hot sand it warms to bath water temperatures in the summer. Birch Bay has one of the largest heron nesting rookeries in the state, and outstanding birding, especially for seabirds and shorebirds. It's classed by the Audubon Society as one of the 50 most Important Birding Areas in Washington State, along with nearby Blaine's Drayton Harbor. The area was until recently a summer tourist destination but it's discovery has it rapidly becoming a year round town. A few popular activities include a sand castle contest in the summer and a well attended Polar Bear Swim every New Years...

The Washington state's County Road Administration Board will pay Whatcom County more than $8.1 million in grant money for a new Lummi Island ferry. The money will come in installments of more than $407,000 annually for 20 years. A lot of Lummi Island residents came to Tuesday night's council meeting to voice their opinion for a new ferry to replace the aging 45- year-old Whatcom Chief, which is not in compliance with the federal Americans with Disabilities Act and is showing signs of a deteriorating hull.

Some of the best views in Washington real estate are found at Birch Bay. Birch Bay addresses are part of the small city of Blaine, and it is north of Bellingham near the border. I remember back 35 years ago and recall that Canadians have always had a strong presence at Birch Bay. The young people would come down to party at Birch Bay State Park and the adults would establish second homes for summers and weekends. People were smart enough, even back then when I was a kid, to know the beach was a good place to be. Today there are a number of residences and condos at Birch Bay, available in different price ranges. The property is highly desirable, especially for those people who can afford the water view. But, sometimes just being nearby is good enough. The area has campgrounds, restaurant...
