Bellingham Waterfront condominiums Bellingham waterfront condominiums are in high demand. Residents of these waterfront condominiums are hesitant to give up 24-hour access to colorful sunsets, rich wildlife, and sparkling water. The combination of a low-maintenance lifestyle and quick access to both nature and the city make Bellingham condominiums some of the most attractive and fastest growing waterfront properties around. Most of these waterfront condominiums are located on Bellingham Bay between the South Hill neighborhood and Old Fairhaven. Unlike most waterfront properties, these condos are within walking distance to grocery stores, restaurants, and other amenities. Lake Whatcom condominiums are located in a slightly quieter, residential area, though they, too, have quick access t...

Bellingham waterfront property is more desirable than ever. Bellingham Bay, Lake Whatcom, Lake Samish, Squalicum Lake, and dozens of other areas make the dream of Bellingham waterfront property a realistic goal. Waterfront houses Bellingham waterfront homes range in size, style, and age, but they all have one thing in common - popularity. For over a century, lucky Bellingham residents have been able to raise their families on some of the most beautiful waterfront properties in the world. Many of these boast personal docks, waterslides, and enormous back yards. Some waterfront houses are protected from the rush of the city by large fir trees or a wooded, half-mile driveway, while others are just close enough to the neighbor's waterfront house to be able to shout a, "Good morning!" while ...

Bellingham acreage Bellingham acreage is easier to find than one might think. While many areas of the city have been developed for over a century, construction in other neighborhoods is just beginning. In these areas of Bellingham, acreage is affordable and a smart purchase. Houses constructed on Bellingham acreage are quite desirable. The large yards are perfect for impromptu games of baseball, a personal garden, or even for a place to raise horses. While many Bellingham homes are built on relatively large lots, acreage allows for a level of peace and quiet not found in most developed neighborhoods. Bellingham acreage is also perfect for builders. Zoned carefully by the environmentally-conscious City of Bellingham, developers cannot allow homes or commercial buildings to sprawl over v...

Bellingham Buidling and Vacant Lots Bellingham lots, coveted as they are, can still be found in every neighborhood. Whether homeowners are doing their part to prevent sprawl by subdividing their own property or Bellingham's rapid growth demands more borders to grow within (instead of out), available lots can be found north, south, east, west, and center. To keep the wilderness wild, Bellingham lots (as well as those in most of the country) are getting smaller. However, responsible development and areas of low-density zoning have allowed for some Bellingham neighborhoods to continue the tradition of open space. This leaves the buyer with many choices. In neighborhoods such as Alabama Hill and Happy Valley, homeowners are subdividing their property and selling lots to those interested in...

York Neighborhood Bellingham WA The York District is a classic. One of the oldest neighborhoods in Bellingham, it boasts quality homes, mature landscaping, and a tight-nit community. Located just east of downtown, its nearly 3,000 residents enjoy the most unique parts of Bellingham. The neighborhood dates back to the late 1890’s, with most of the homes being built in the early 20th century. As a result, much of the architecture in the York District has strong Victorian influences. Though you will undoubtedly find structures created in the last few decades, the neighborhood maintains its distinctive, historical atmosphere. Businesses are scattered throughout the York District, though most lie on the border between this neighborhood and downtown Bellingham. Unlike many of the newer areas ...

Western Washington University Neighborhood in Bellingham  Western Washington University (referred to as "WWU" or "Western") is one of five public universities in the state. With 12,000 undergraduates and nearly 1,000 graduate students, the school is large enough to offer many, diverse programs, while still maintaining an intimate atmosphere. The university is broken up into seven different colleges - Business and Economics, Fine and Performing Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Huxley College of the Environment, Science and Technology, Woodring College of Education, and Fairhaven College (where students organize their own major). All are well-respected departments that produce highly qualified graduates, many of whom stay in the Bellingham area. The Woodring College of Education, fo...

Whatcom Falls Neighborhood Bellingham The Whatcom Falls neighborhood combines nature and convenience to be one of the best residential neighborhoods in Bellingham. Located on the east side of the city, this low-density area is just a short drive from downtown and several shopping centers. Not surprisingly, one of the highlights of the neighborhood is Whatcom Falls. Whatcom Creek rushes through the 241-acre Whatcom Falls Park and tumbles over rocks, spraying water at walkers and roaring so loudly you can follow the noise from the parking lot to the waterfall. During the spring and summer, young people can be found jumping off the cliffs into the deep creek pools below. The park also includes miles of winding trails that are popular with runners, hikers, and dog-walkers. Some curve throu...

Sudden Valley Bellingham Sudden Valley is a private community nestled between the shores of Lake Whatcom and the surrounding hills. Practically a town in and of itself, it is still conveniently close to Bellingham and all of the city's amenities. With a population of 4,000 people and 1,500 acres, one could argue that each resident has just under a third of an acre to his or herself. Sudden Valley uses its space to make the neighborhood one of the most fun, relaxing, and peaceful areas to live. The many activities and diversity in house styles help create a desirable, family-friendly atmosphere. Lake Whatcom, of course, draws many people to the area. Motorboats, kayaks, canoes, sailboats, and even windsurfers frequent the quieter, southern part of Lake Whatcom. Sudden Valley has its own...

The 23rd annual Lake Whatcom boat parade will take place on the Fourth of July. The parade begins at 3 p.m. with the firing of a Civil War-era cannon. As many as 36 boats, including wooden classics, steam engine and ski boats, will participate. It begins at Strawberry Point and will follow the shoreline clockwise for about 90 minutes. A few great spots to watch from are the dock area of Bloedel Donovan Park, the end of Cable Street and other street ends off North Shore Drive.I've never seen it before but it sounds like something I will try and do this year.

It has happened again. Bellingham makes it onto yet another "Best Places" list. This time it is Mother Earth News naming Bellingham among the "Eight Great Places You've Never Heard Of."  That seems kind of odd to me considering Bellingham has been discovered and made so many "Best Places" lists the past few years. I guess Mother Earth News just hasn't been paying attention. The list is all about the cities' dedication to renewable energy, local farmers and other "green" efforts. Dave Wann, who wrote the article, said that he has never been to Bellingham, but that he has heard great things about its citizen involvement, nonprofit organizations and popularity of hybrid vehicles. The story is due to hit the press in the magazine's August/September issue

At the southern edge of Bellingham, the South Neighborhood is home to over 1,500 Bellingham residents. There are large areas of undeveloped property with significant natural features that help define the character of the neighborhood. The northern end of the Chuckanut Mountains are here rising out of Chuckanut Creek. Chuckanut Bay is another significant area within the neighborhood. It is an historic site as well as a unique natural recreational resource. Hoag's Pond, Chuckanut Creek, and the marsh area along the interurban right-of-way are all part of this neighborhood. Chuckanut Village perhaps epitomizes the historical character of the area with the image of a small, secluded Puget Sound fishing village. Fairhaven Park is a city park within the South Neighborhood which is widely used...

Edgemoor has some of the finest homes in Bellingham. It is located in the south of Bellingham in close proximity to Fairhaven and the South Neighborhood featuring Fairhaven Park and west of Chuckanut Drive. The views from some of the homes in this area are just magnificent ones of the Bay and Islands. Many of the homes are on large lots with mature landscaping and feature Bellingham's most prestigeous, well maintained homes. Clark's Point, extends into Bellingham Bay, it is a large, steep, heavily wooded peninsula that is protected from further development with a conservation easement. The city greenway and tidelands provide public access to Chuckanut Bay. A short trip down Chuackanut Drive will take you to Larabee State Park which has loads of hiking trails, beach, boat launch, and one...
