  The Lake Champlain Maritime Festival will be taking place this weekend at the Burlington waterfront. This event is sure to be a crowd pleaser with a wide variety of activities taking place. This event is organized by the Community Sailing Center. Main events include an hour and a half lunch cruise, a 5k and fun run, volleyball, silent auction and a wide variety of bands and entertainment. The Fireworks show in Burlington Vermont this year were spectacular! Earlier in the evening (around 8:20) there was a special stunt air plane show which ended with some daylight fireworks. The stunt pilot dived repeatedly while releasing bright-colored smoke and the fireworks went up in the smoke. As usual the main Burlington fireworks show started at around 9:30 and it was quite a show. I think the Burlington Fireworks show gets better each year. Apparently they cost $40,000 for this year's show, $5,000 more than last year. The good news is that it doesn't cost Burlington Vermont taxpayers a dime as it's sponsored by 3 major sponsors: Pomerleau Real Estate, Price Chopper and Chittenden Bank. Burlington's 4th of July Celebration will be taking place this Saturday, July 3, 2010 on the Burlington waterfront. Festivities will begin at 5:30 including local bands, strolling entertainers, acrobats, stilt walkers, mines, jugglers, balloon twisting and pony rides. The Burlington Jazz Festival is running from June 4th through June 13th, 2010 and is taking place at the Church Street Marketplace with many bands playing and with ticketed events taking place at the Flynn Theatre. This festival has been running for 26 years. I had the pleasure of listening to several of the very talented musicians on Friday evening and found it to be quite enjoyable. On Saturday, February 27th 2010, I had the pleasure of attending the Mardi Gras Parade in Burlington, Vermont. The parade ran down Church Street and attracted a few thousand revellers. Visitors filled downtown Burlington clammoring for the beaded necklaces thrown from the floats. All floats were decorated vivaciously and some included music - what a fun afternoon!   03/13/2010

Parima Thai restaurant at 185 Pearl Street in Burlington is located between Church Street and South Winooski Avenue. This fine Thai restaurant has been in business since 1974 and under current ownership since 1994. The restaurant is beautifully adorned with rich hand-crafted woodwork, maple floors and brass fixtures. This 7,000 square foot restaurant can seat 140 patrons in its two story main dining room and another 30 outdoors in the courtyard. There are also banquet and meeting facilities. Parima Thai also offers live music in its acoustic lounge. I have heard several of the musicians who play there and have enjoyed them all. Big Fattys restaurant in Burlington, Vermont serves up some great southern flavor. This gem of a restaurant is located at 55 Main Street in Burlington and utters the slogan "Put some south in your mouth". My favorites are their pulled pork sandwich and sweet potato fries. Also of note is their Texas brisket. All sauces and rubs are homemade to add to the authentic style. The staff is very friendly as well. The Burlington Home Show will be occuring this weekend at the Sheraton Hotel in Burlington, Vermont. This is the 15th year of the event which will have 200 exhibitors and will attract roughly 9,000 visitors. Show hours are 10-8 on Saturday and 10-5 on Sunday. There is a $6 admission fee. This weekend, Burlington Vermont will host the 15th annual Mardi Gras celebration. Events kick off on Friday night with a Masquerade Ball at the Radisson Hotel. Tickets are $12 in advance and $14 at the door. On Saturday, festivities begin at noon on Church Street with the Festival of Thieves. The Parade begins at 3:00 with 40 floats tossing over 180,000 beads as well as 7,680 authentic Louisiana Moon Pies and thousands of Lake Champlain Chocolates. Over 12,000 people attended the parade last year. The Magic Hat Block Party will immediately follow the parade where top bands will play. Proceeds from bead sales will benefit the Women's Rape Crisis Center in Burlington. Last year, $5,000 was raised for the center from this event. When you are in a legal proceeding, would you have the lawyer representing the person sitting across the table from you represent you as well? The answer is so simple. Of course not. Why then when buying a house or property which for many people represents one of the largest financial decisions of their lives would you utilize the Realtor who represents the Seller(s) to safeguard your best interests as the Buyer(s)? February 4th, 2010 Burlington Vermont Vermont continues to have the lowest foreclosures of any state in the entire United States. Recent information reported by Bloomberg BusinessWeek indicate that Vermont has suffered the least with ONLY 143 foreclosures in the entire state for all of 2009! RealtyTrac, in its monthly report from December 2009, reported that only 6 homes in all of Chittenden County (includes 17 towns around and including Burlington VT) went into foreclosure or 1 in every 10,479 housing units. Put another way, The Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA.org) reported from the Bloomberg.com website that as of January 29th, 2010, Vermont had the lowest foreclosure rate in the country at 0.04% of all homes in the state.   This Saturday, February 6th Burlington, Vermont will participate in the 15th annual Penguin Plunge to support Special Olympics of Vermont. This Burlington event has become well known from its start in 1995 with only 15 participants to a record 900 participants in 2009. This year should break all records with approximately 1,000 participants.  Jump into the icy waters of Lake Champlain to help support the 850+ Special Olympics athletes in Vermont. Donations will go towards providing the athletes with opportunities to participate in sports training and athletic competitions. Last week, I attended the 8th annual Business Summit sponsored by the Burlington Business Association (BBA) hosted at Champlain College. The summit brought business people from across the area together to hear three lecturers discuss the past, present and future for our city and to brainstorm in breakout sessions what needs to be done to keep Burlington vibrant, creative and growing. January 6th, 2010 Burlington, Vermont New Year's Eve celebration (called First Night ) in Burlington Vermont rocks! If you haven't been to a First Night in Burlington yet, keep it in mind to check it out next year. This year was the 27th year Burlington's First Night has been celebrated and it was better than ever. Where else can you pay $15 to get into so many, many venues? Okay, a few of the choice concerts at the Flynn Theater added $3 more to the night per person per event but it's laughable how much fun can be had for such a modest outlay.
