YES!  I happened to glance out my back window this a.m. and saw the morning sky ablaze with the morning sunrise.  It was 6:50 a.m.  My house faces north so the morning sunrise is almost directly south.  Just look! 11-11-11 Day in Loudoun County:  The Town of Lovettsville will hold its 5th annual Veteran's Day ceremony at 11:00 am Friday, November 11, 2011, to honor all of those who have served in the armed forces.   This year is particularly special, however, as the Town will dedicate the new Lovettsville Veterans Memorial in the town square.  The Town plans to pave the Memorial with custom engraved pavers which can be purchased by the public.  Each paver, including engraving and installation, costs $250.  This is a wonderful opportunity to honor your veterans in your home town and home county. The public library in Lovettsville, Virginia - wonderful service and a life saver when your Internet service is down. The public library in Lovettsville is offered by the Loudoun County county government and serves the public in many ways.  Some of which are: Meeting Rooms - seat 35 with audio-visual equipment available. The town of Lovettsville hosts its annual Oktoberfest every year in late September. The 3-day festival celebrates Lovettsville's German heritage with music, dancing, German food & beer, and more! Friday night the activities begin with a live band in the main tent. The main event is Saturday when the Town comes alive with food, crafts, and entertainment along the Town's historic streets. Festivities continue Sunday with a pancake breakfast and a community church service, then music in the tent in the afternoon. Oktoberfest wraps up Monday with a scramble golf tournament. THE FIRST SIGN OF FALL IN LOVETTSVILLE VIRGINIA.  SEPTEMBER 18, 2011. Just across the road from my home in Northwestern Loudoun County, the first sign of color I've noticed. The view from my front stoop shows an area with lots of green but gradually changing to some orange. LOVETTSVILLE doesn't generally have very severe winters.  We've been in a cold phase for about 4 years now (with about 3 more to go).   The high temperature averages about 43 degrees during the day and about 20 at night.  Not bad. I must give credit here to my sister, Joan.  She took this with her IPhone camera and I messed with it a bit in I-Photo. This one illustrates something:  You can never ever tell what will happen with land that is adjacent to any house you buy.  A few months ago, this was a vacant field with tall grass out in Loudoun County.  Then the owners decided to lease it as pasture land, and these beautiful creatures showed up.  I'm told they are show cattle.  The last time I showed up with my own camera, they were way on the other side of the land and I didn't get to see them at all. On  Saturday and Sunday afternoons, many people who live in and near Washington, DC head for Virginia wine country to check out what some of our local growers are producing.  Today, we headed out to Sunset Hills Vinyard near Lovetsville, Virginia. This fellow greeted us at the door with a great big smile.  I felt that was a good sign. We sampled some wonderful wines - many that had won prizes at state wide and national competitions.  The today's tasting included three white wines, three reds and a dessert wind.  I think my favorite was a 2009 Merlot - something that I will admit even though Merlot may be considered to be somewhat unchic by many of my wine snob briends.  But a highlight was a tour of the cellar with Diane Canney, who with her husband, Mike, have transformed a banrupt far... 07/03/2011

WHITE TAIL DEER IN LOVETTSVILLE VIRGINIA - FROM MY OFFICE WINDOW I've known for some time that about a small herd of White Tail Deer live in the wooded area across the raod from my home.  Now that the leaves are down, I see them moving around quite often during the day.  Also, since it's Deer hunting season, the Deer move around quite a bit more. VDOT, Virginia Department of Transportation Comes Through Again.  Potholes Gone. When you live on an unpaved rural road, road maintenance is important.  I love living in the country and I am fine with the gravel road ways.  However, from time to time, the potholes are a challenge at best.  I drive a 4Runner and can navigate these barriers fine, but many in my area drive more sporty vehicles and really must crawl these potholes, or take the long way out where the road is usually not any better.  THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION does a good job of maintaining the road in front of my home.   How do they know when a road is in need of maintenance??
