Housing Starts???  Those national stats are never going to register with home buyers in local communities.   Oh well. Dan Polimino is right on target when he write about housing starts going UP:  . "This is great news for everyone since we know that a major engine of the economy is housing." PROGRESS is the word for Loudoun County one week after Sandy.  If anniversaries have any meaning, last Tuesday, October 30, 2012, was a new beginning. It was the day the clean-up began following the natural disaster known as SANDY.  Has anyone wondered whether this particular named storm was a furious female or a maniacal male? It would appear that named storms this year alternate male/female names.  So, Sandy is a furious female. Alberto,Beryl,Chris,Debby,Ernesto,Florence,Gordon,Helene,Isaac,Joyce,Kirk,Leslie,Michael,Nadine,Oscar,Patty,Rafael,Sandy,Tony,Valerie,William I don't even recall any of the earlier storms of 2012.  Clearly, they didn't hit with the ferociousness of Sandy.  Nor did they cause the massive destruction.  Life, as they know it, will never be the same for many folks... 11/05/2012

SEE THE PROGRESS ON THIS WONDERFUL NEW HOME IN LOVETTSVILLE. We're in about week 7 and progress is visible.  There may be a delay in closing.  We were scheduled for mid-December.  However, Hurricane Sandy caused a few days delay.  Siding was delayed a couple of days because the final framing inspection was delayed.  Siding began yesterday and it looks good.  By end of this week, we should see the sides and front begin to take shape with siding and stone.  The BUYER'S PRE-DRYWALL INSPECTION WAS yesterday.  LOOKING GOOD!!!    The roof is on with touch-ups going on today.    We'll see the insulation/drywall early this coming week.   Siding in the back was installed yesterday.          The stone facade is ready to go this coming week. YOU KNOWS that HELP is on the way when you see a CARAVAN like the one that just drive by my home. DOES THIS LOOK LIKE THEY MEAN BUSINESS???  It sure does to me.  Granted, I probably won't be able to drive out to the main road from that direction.  Not a problem as long as they're leaving one direction open.  There are two routes to my home from the main road, Berlin Turnpike.  From time to time over this week, both entrances have been blocked by repair trucks. Oh well, there's always the Quality Inn in Leesburg. I have a pre-drywall inspection scheduled at 2:00 p.m. right here in Lovettsville.  Shucks, I could walk to that.  A nice 2 mile walk on a 50 degree day is not out of the question.  We'll see. SURE, IT'S BEEN A ROUGH COUPLE OF DAYS!!!  However, when I see the destruction, loss and suffering of our fellow Americans in New Jersey, New York, etc. . . . I CAN'T COMPLAIN!!  In fact, it's been a bit of an ADVENTURE.  "Come on Lenn.  You find adventure in almost anything!!!"  TRUE, TRUE.  Hey folks, don't forget that I'm an experienced camper.  I've lived in tents in Yellowstone and the Virginia G.W. Nat. I COULD WRITE A BOOK about Richard Weissers post of today, see What is the expected life-span of a house? The use of the word "subdivision" is a starter.  The degree of quality and pride of workmanship in a single homes can't possibly be matched by the typical "subdivision" home. You can get a home that will last 100 years today, IF YOU CAN PAY THE PRICE. I just sold a home that is 103 years old.  Sure it had "good bones".  That said, it was not at all competitive in terms of "cost per square foot".  It was also severely deficient in energy efficiency.  It had none.  The most attractive features in that home were recent upgrades.  When we previewed the home, it had WOW factors, indeed.  However, the house, without the recent upgrades would have been . . . . just another pedestrian old h... 10/23/2012
