I took this photo of the sunset over the James River several weeks ago and thought it would be nice to share it. This afternoon there will probably be a nice sunset since the skies are blue with some clouds, so I will probably head down to the James River Park in about an hour.

Jamestown Island is the home of the first permanent English settlement in the United States.   Sunday, December 27th was a beautiful warm day here in Williamsburg.  I had not driven through  Jamestown Island for a while so I decided it was a great day to take a ride there.   The island is reached via the Colonial Parkway over a small bridge that crosses Powhatan Creek where it flows into the James River. Once you arrive on Jamestown Island the road is one way.  There are two routes: one is a short tour of about one and a half miles and the longer tour is six miles.                              Jamestown is a nice place for biking, hiking or a casual drive.   There are several wooden bridges on the six mile route as you can see in a couple of the photos below.    The creeks are another b...

This was a another beautiful sunset and I took several photos of it.  It was the same night that I took the picture of the rainbow so the clouds made for a gorgeous sunset over the river.  As usual this photo was taken from the park at Jamestown near the ferry.

On Tuesday evening I saw this beautiful rainbow and I was reminded of the promise that it represents. I love all of nature and seeing a beautiful rainbow is a special gift.   This photo was taken from the Jamestown park near the ferry landing.  I enjoy going there to see the sunset and yesterday the bonus was this rainbow.

Last Wednesday I saw another beautiful sunset over the James River.  These photos were taken from the Jamestown park which is accessed just before the entrance to the Jamestown ferry. Later as the clouds turned almost bright orange or red, but I was driving and was not able to get more photos.

Yesterday I posted a Wordless Wednesday blog with a picture of a crane against a beautiful sunset over the James river. Here are some more pictures of a crane and this lovely sunset over the James River:Here are some more pictures of a crane (it is very small and in the lower center of the picture) and this lovely sunset over the James River: The crane is barely visible in the left lower part of the photo.  It is near the ferry that leads from Jamestown to Surry. One of the photos showed the half moon which was high in the dusky sky.  The moon is in the upper left and the crane is in the lower right portion of the photo.
