There are just some homes that you are so happy to list. This is one of those for me. It also happens to be a home that I sold to the current owners. It was not only a very striking home when they purchased it but it is even better. They have added a beautiful stacked stone fireplace, shutters which make the home even more attractive and a really neat firepit in the professionally styled landscaped backyard.Lovely, quality custom built home in sought after neighborhood. Gourmet kitchen with gas cook top, electric double ovens, stainless steel appliances, wet bar, wine coolers, hardwood floors everywhere, stacked stone fireplace, 2 pellet stoves, hot tub, finished lower level, 3 master suites, very large screen porch, office, rec room, boat slip, fenced back yard, deck, and patio. Situat...

Fortunately we have a large inventory of beautiful waterfront homes for sale but this one just came on the market and really caught my eye. I know this community well and the location on the lake gets very high marks from me. Perhaps you will feel the same way about it. If what I share with you in words does not excite you, these photos might. 218 Tara Woods Drive                     Fabulous View of Lake Anna Tara Woods subdivision is located mid-lake on the public side of the lake giving it easy access to all of the marinas, lakeside restaurants and more than 9600 acres of fresh water. This home has three bedrooms and two full baths as well as an unfinished lower level that opens up to the lake. The amount of water frontage is what really sets this home apart. It has over 400 feet of ...

Sharing Lake Anna with our grandchildren is one of the things that brings us the most joy. There is not a better way to spend your time than to see them in the water having the time of their life. Whether it is swimming, fishing, kayaking, water skiing, or simply horsing around, it is a pleasure to see how much fun they can have. If you were lucky enough when you were a child to spend summers on a lake you know just what I'm talking about. Not only is it fun to have the grandchildren here to share the fun with, we enjoy having the "big kids" here also. Having siblings together and cousins together makes us all happy. Lake Anna is a wonderful place to create memories not only in the summer but any time of the year. The lake has its four seasons and each one presents a different picture o...

Canadian geese enjoying a layover near Lake Anna. While Lake Anna is the spot that we have chosen to spend the majority of our time, not everyone or everything can do the same. Today on my way to a walk-thru I almost missed a large gaggle of Canadian geese resting in a field. It was only the fact that three stragglers were taking their time crossing the road that I happened to look to my right and saw the rest of the flock enjoying a break. SPOTTING CANADIAN GEESE TAKING A BREAK NEAR LAKE ANNA Usually I have one of my cameras in my car but today I only had my cell phone so I was unable to get a really wide angle photo. This shot shows just a few of the geese. It is not even that easy to spot all of the ones here but they go way back to the tree line. One of my recent posts mention my Ac...

Catching up on a little time together. A week or so ago I was driving near the lake and came upon a scene that struck me as something I wanted to capture in a photo. It meant turning around and turning around again so that I could get close to a mom and young boy spending time together. Where? Well, it just happens to be one of my favorite places, Lake Anna of course. ENJOYING LAKE ANNA TOGETHER  I asked the mom if it would be all right if I took a picture of the two of them together and she said it was fine. I am so glad I stopped to do this. These are the types of photos that I enjoy taking. When I come across a scene that depicts the things I love about Lake Anna I like to share it with others. This is one of those times.

Enjoy a night out at Lake Anna and on top of that you will be supporting a wonderful organization.  Volunteers contribute an amazing amount of their own time to be there in case you or I need help.  This is a great way to show our appreciation. If you're not excited about the prospect of dancing I'm sure you still might find the spagetti, homemade bread, salad, dessert, and drink appealling.  In case you have a conflict and are not able to attend you can support Lake Anna Rescue Squad by making a donation or volunteering some of your time.  Even better would be to do both.

Thursday is Turkey Day at Lake Anna and everywhere else in the United States.  Friday is Left Over Turkey Day, at least in my house.  What comes next?  Perhaps Salt Herring?  If you would like a treat and you'll be close, stop by Lake Anna Rescue headquarters and join others for a great big breakfast and lots of warm fellowship.   Not only will you be getting a treat you will also be donating to a great cause.  Those of us that live in the Lake Anna area are fortunate that we have a rescue squad available whenever we need help.  This breakfast is a way of saying thank you to all the volunteers that keep LARI up and running.  Enjoy!

One of the things that we have to look forward to each year is the annual luncheon put on by the Lake Anna Piecemakers.  This vibrant group of quilters has been meeting for a number of years and at one point decided that it would be a good idea to have a luncheon where quilts and crafts could be displayed and a guest  would speak on a topic of interest to the group.  It was such a success that it has carried over year after year. The Piecemakers have been meeting at the LARI (Lake Anna Rescue) Building for years and another purpose of the luncheon is to raise money for the Rescue Squad.  As a group, the Piecemakers are very indebted to LARI for the use of the meeting room.  As residents at or near Lake Anna they are indebted to LARI for the wonderful service numerous volunteers have pro...

This has been quite a week for those of us living in the Lake Anna area.  We had an interesting Tuesday when many of us* experienced our first earthquake ever.  It was quite a surprise and seems hardly possible that it really happened. Right now we are under a Tropical Storm Watch.  It will be interesting to see when that changes. However, we are faced with the likely prospect of a hurricane hitting our area.  This is something we are more familiar with but definitely a cause for concern.  Although most of us have lived through more than one hurricane it always helps to be reminded of the things that we can do to be prepared. Below are some suggestions from the American Red Cross. Get a three-day supply of water ready for each person (one gallon per person, per day) on hand, along with ...

Tributes to dad are not just for Father's Day.  Good fathers are there for their children every day of the year whether they can be with them nor not.  I was scrolling through some of my photos this evening and happened upon this one which I had taken some time ago.  I liked it then and I like it now.  I like what it represents.  A time together sharing an experience in a nice spot.  Sure the weather looks less than perfect and yet it looks like they are content to be together. Perhaps this is something they do often or perhaps it is something that they do rarely.  Either way it is fraught with the potential for good memories...even if no fish are caught. There is a spot by Dike 3 on Lake Anna that has a parking lot and some great fishing.  You can count on finding fishermen there almos...

If you dream about living at a lake, Lake Anna may be the perfect spot for you.  Many have thought so and many more will.  There's much to discover here and it is a fun place to visit and an even better place to live. On December 1, 2010 I was crossing Dike 3 over the lake and noticed how the setting sun was to my right and to my left the sun was casting a beautiful glow.  The colors of the chairs and the flag were so bright while the sky provided a subtle background.  I knew I needed to try to capture it.  I parked on the other side of the dike, walked back, and snapped a few. LAKE ANNA, VA Roaming Lake Anna Roads is a new series of posts with pictures I have taken as I traveled around my neighborhood.  I've said it before and I'll say it again.  Lake Anna is my neighborhood.  All of i...

We are interested in buying property at Lake Anna and have heard there are two side to the lake...What does that mean? There are two sides to Lake Anna and that is basically because the purpose of the lake is to cool the reactors from the nuclear plant built by Virginia Dominion. The North Anna River was dammed up to create a reservoir of 9,400 acres separated from three cooling lagoons by dikes. Water is used to cool the reactors and then passes from one lagoon to another cooling as it progresses towards Dike 3. The private side, about 3,400 acres of surface water, is called that because the majority of the land on this side is zoned residential. No commercial establishments, such as marinas and campgrounds, are allowed on the waterfront. Property owners and their guests are generally ...
