Register for the Tuckahoe 5K now here.  The race will be held November 12, 2011, starting and ending at Tuckahoe elementary school.  Proceeds go to the PTA to help teachers and kids out with things like teacher grants for continuing education, technology upgrades, Patrol camps, Discovery Schoolyard, the Girls on the Run program and more. It is a fun course and a great way to get involved in your school or the community.  There's also a 1 mile Fun run at the end through Tuckahoe Park as well.  Want to check out the race course?  Click here. You may have noticed a bit of extra congestion at pick up time from Tuckahoe Elementary School in Arlington this fall.   That is because the neighborhing Catholic High School, Bishop O'Connell is remodeling their football fields and now all their soccer, lacrosse and field hockey games appear to be played on the Arlington county fields adjacent to Tuckahoe Elementary.     Everyone within a mile (ish) of Tuckahoe on the same side as Lee Highway is a "walker" or "driver", meaning your kids are not on the  bus route and parents or caregivers must pick them up at 3:41 or so.   I fall into this category living 4/10 of a mile from the school.   In years past, I could drive if running late and not have too much of a hassle in getting the kids, but this year, it is pure madness.  The Bishop O'C... 10/27/2011

One of the area's best home and garden tours is coming up at the end of this month - The Tuckahoe Elementary Home and Garden Tour.  Each year the tour gets better and better, and this year should be no exception.  We've got many new sponsors who are featuring amazing renovations of classic Arlington homes as well as beautifully landscaped gardens.   The tour will be from 12-5 on Saturday May 21, tickets must be purchased prior to the tour from the Tuckahoe PTA, download the form here, and either mail or bring your payment into Tuckahoe Elemantary School at 6550 N. 26th ST in Arlington.   Proceeds go the the Tuckahoe PTA and the school's Discovery Schoolyard.  And feel free to contact me for more details.  I was last year's co-chair and am working on the tour again this year. If you are a Tuckahoe Elementary School Parent and are interested in their wonderful after school enrichment programs available at the school, click here to register before they fill up!      These classes make for a lot of fun after school and give the kids a great sense of accomplishment.  This year's enrichment has become much more organized and easier to register for thanks to our awesome PTA members!     My 2nd grader is currently enjoying Creative Writing, Jiu Jitsu and Woodworking.   He even got to make this cool tank, with real hammers and nails himself!----------->   The Spring Options include lots of sports as well as other fun games, art, and science: Baseball, Soccer, Chess, Manners (I swear this one will be next for him!), Polamer Clay Fun, Portfolio Multi-Media, Reptiles A... 03/07/2011
