Who says it doesn't snow in St. George, Utah?  Well, me...that's who. I am always correcting my friends and family from out of state when they tell me they could never live in SNOW! "It NEVER snows in St. George!" That's my reply. Well here I am with wet feet (I do not own snow shoes...I live in St George) having to make a public apology to everyone I have debated the subject with. It DID snow in St George. Last night created a beautiful winter wonderland for the City of St George Utah. We all awoke with icy driveways and walk ways.  They Don't Call it "Snow Canyon" for Nothing!  I have to say, it's the most beautiful time I have been wrong. It actually does snow in St. George; usually we receive 1 or 2 dustings per year. Normally, when it falls, it only sticks to elevated surfaces (gra...

Talks of St George Utah opening a larger Airport have been circulating for over 20 years. In the past few years the rumors are finally becoming a reality. Currently, the city is in the process of final land acquisition which is on schedule for completion by the end of February. The airport should be open in 2011. The current St George Utah Airport has 110,000 available seats per year and the new airport will provide approximately 200,000 seats. The new airport will include regional passenger jets and the potential for additional flights to more locations such as Seattle, Dallas, Denver and Phoenix. The new, larger facility will accommodate more passenger traffic which will keep up with the population increase the St George Utah area is experiencing. For additional St George Utah Airport...

I often share my story of moving to St George Utah with my clients, I thought I would share it here and at the same time offer information and my perspective of beautiful Southern Utah . Our family lived in California for many years. We decided we wanted to move, to find more of a "small town" life to raise our children. Where can we go? Well I went to Mapquest.com and pulled up one of the main Interstates leaving California . I followed I15 to the north. Saw Vegas...no...to hot. I continued on my virtual northbound road trip until I found a city I had not heard of. St. George. I made some phone calls "you ever been to St. George, it's in Utah?" The consensus was almost unanimous. "I've heard of it, and I think we went through there on the way to...XXX." So my next thought was "I wonder...

With Wimbledon finished, and tennis fans looking toward the hard court season ending with the U.S. Open in Flushing Meadow, I thought I'd advertise the great tennis facilities in St. George. Tonaquint Park, run by the city of St. George Leisure Services Dept., has 16 courts, 8 lighted, plenty of parking, and a small concessionaire selling cold drinks. The USTA holds classes there, and a local pro, Jason Worthington, not only teaches all levels, but also organizes doubles league play. Other public facilities include Dixie College, and several local parks: Cox Park Tennis Courts 900 E 1000 S Saint George, UT; Larkspur Park Tennis Courts 600 E Fort Pierce Drive Saint George, UT; Santa Clara Park Tennis Courts 1400 Canyon View Drive Santa Clara, UT; Vernon Worthen Park Tennis Courts 400 E 2...

St. George Utah is known as one of the golf capitals of the country.  The weather permits play year 'round, and there are 18 courses within a 2-hour drive, 12 within St. George itself.4 of the city courses are public, owned and maintained by the city of St. George:  Sunbrook, Southgate, St. George, and Dixie Red Hills.Until this year, the city gave a discount card for residents, but maintenance and utility costs increased enough so residents have to pay the same as visitors.  The fees vary by course, by time of the year, by time of day, and whether or not the golfer uses a cart.  They range from $55 to $32 in peak season for 18 holes.  Here's the fee schedule.Golf course properties are at a premium here, but there are several established communities built around golf courses which have ...

According to a recent report completed by Kiplinger, St. George is #11 in their list of the Top 20 Smart Places to Live in the country!  The survey was completed by readers of Kiplinger's, who were asked to choose the most important factors when considering a place to live.  They chose cost of living and cost of housing.  Quality health care and a low crime rate also rated highly. In the database developed by the authors, other key criteria used were weather, education, cultural amenities, and transportation.  Also included was economic vitality, and they gave more weight to communities with well-diversified economies they felt are good places to start or expand a business.  Finally, quality of life, as measured by cultural and recreational activities, completed the score.Based on first...

Tuacahn is a natural outdoor amphitheatre just 10 minutes from St. George, Utah, formed of red rock and vertical sandstone cliffs.  "I was awestruck," wrote Orval Hafen, upon first seeing the area that is now home to the Tuacahn Center for the Arts.  He and his wife, Ruth, bought an 80-acre parcel in the box canyon and built a cabin there, at the turn of the 20th century.  He stated, "There before me lay a scene of indescribable beauty:  wild, primitive, unspoiled, largely unknown, waiting to be enjoyed, waiting to inspire folks."Orval Hafen's vision came one step closer to reality in 1993 when Doug Stewart, noted playwright and St. George resident, stumbled upon the spot as he was searching for a location for an outdoor amphitheatre in the St. George area.  "The stunning beauty and per...

St. George, America's Fastest Growing City with GREAT Investment OpportunitiesLet me share a brief story and I'm sure there will be several who can share in the frustration - granted it's something that can't be cured but I'd hope we could all incorporate a little more courtesy for the "other guy".This recommendation is everyone.  I've recently experienced a number of appointments for my listings to be shown, which in these cases has temporarily displaced my seller from their home during said showing.  It's when I call that afternoon or next morning to obtain feedback from the showing agent that I hear, "Oh, we decided not to look at that house". Folks, it goes deeper than "that house" ... I understand curb appeal and how a buyer may not have the desire to see the inside of something th...
