There were approximately 300 people at CentraLand Title Company's sixth annual economic summit in Temple Texas on Firday, May 17, 2013. The speaker was Dr Dotzour, Chief Economist for the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M. He commented that since the financial shock of 2008, Americans have paid off debt, seen net worth restored and regained their capacity for credit. He commented that the local economy is steady, and that people want to buy again. Corporate uncertainty about health care costs is why hiring hasn't gone up faster. Dr Dotzour said Americans have a larger percentage of disposable income available than any time in the last 33 years.

As most of you know, Interstate Highway 35 widening has been on hold because of various financial and political reasons for years. The Texas Department of Transportation is still in the process of expanding and reconstructing IH 35 through Temple Texas as part of a federal project. The first federally required meeting was July 26, 2000, the second meeting was August 30, 2001, a third meeting on June 13, 2002.
