Have you seen the fruits and vegetables at the local farmers markets? (Above photo from Dallas Farmers Market, March 2011) Monument Cafe, our local eatery here in Georgetown, just opened a farmers' market adjacent the restaurant. We got a peak at it this past Saturday and was impressed with the local items offered. Give it a try:)

I'm not one to complain about Texas' unpredictable weather mood swings.  I rather enjoy the cooler weather.  I know that during the summer I'll be wishing for a break from the heat so when we do get one of these cold weather days in the middle of 80-90+ degree weather, I make sure to appreciate it. I like to get to one of the wonderful amenity centers in Sun City to visit with my neighbors in Sun City, catch up on how lives are moving along & reconnect with my community.  It leaves me with a refreshed perspective & a joy knowing that I've helped so many of my friends in Sun City to purchase in a retirement community that is active & full of life.    This is the entrance to Cowan Creek Community center.  There is something for everyone here.  So get a sweater on, get out the door & come ...

I've often said that Facebook should be thought of similarly to a loaded gun.  It's all about the user and what they intend to do with that gun that poses a problem or not.  So with Facebook, how we choose to portray ourselves should be viewed similarly.  If you are trying to show the FB community that you are a dedicated professional, then you should be careful of what you say, what conversations you participate in & who you add as your "friends."  I've told people since the day I set up an account on Facebook that we should view adding "friends" along the lines of "Would you trust this person in your living room with your family?"  We put our children's pictures, our grandchildren's pictures, our spouses, our friends & all our moments in life online for everyone we have befriended to ...

In a recent post, I explained that my wife and I have recently relocated to central, Texas from the East coast. We purchased a resale home in a 55+ community last fall and closed in January 2010. Going to a new market we knew nothing about put us back in the category of "dumb consumer" and we needed help. No problem. Since I am a licensed real estate broker, I can certainly use my expertise to find the best buyer's agent available and make this easy as pie. Not so fast, Kimosabie. It was easy to find the brokerage firm with the largest market share and after reviewing their agent profiles, I zeroed in on the perfect agent for us.  Since I was a licensed broker, I thought a referral fee was in order; after all we were a ready, willing and able buyer intent on making a purchase.  I was ab...

We hope everyone is enjoying a safe, happy Memorial Day weekend!  We have had a wonderful week visiting family in Alabama and Dallas... I hope we can all stop today and remember what this holiday is all about.  So many of our men and women who are serving their country and keeping us safe are the ones who should be taking the day off, enjoying time with their families.  They have all given so much so we can enjoy our freedom.  If you're at home today in Sun City, be sure to watch the "Thanks to the Troops" video on Ch 79 at 3 pm and 7 pm. If you're in Austin today, go to American Legion post 76 just off Lake Austin Blvd.  There will be comments from the mayor and a military fly over at that ceremony.                                                                   No matter wher...

Sun City is a retirement community located in Georgetown. It is not the normal retirement home or community. This community offers its residents small town charm, but just minutes from Austin. Sun City was also recently named one of the nations top retirement communities by Retirement Places Rated, a guidebook for seniors wanting to relocate upon retirement. Its location is excellent, and has extremely affordable cost of living and tax advantages. Currently Sun City has about 5,500 homes and plans to expand to 7,500 homes by 2012-2013. Most of the homes in Sun City range in price beginning around $100,000- up to $500,000. The sizes vary, but average size is between 1300 square feet to 2800 square feet. As originally proposed, the Austin Energy ordinance would have required all homeowners to upgrade their homes to current energy standards before selling their homes. These mandatory upgrades could have cost thousands of dollars and put an extreme economic stress on cash strapped sellers. However, due to the efforts of the Austin Board of Realtors (ABOR) and city leaders, the city chose not to require homeowners to make the mandatory upgrades, but rather, require that some homeowners to conduct energy audits before the sale of their home. This ordinance goes into effect on June 1, 2009 and will apply to most residential, multi-family and commercial properties in Austin. Sun City is the place to be if you want a life of peace and relaxation with a whole lot of activities thrown in. The housing market in Sun City is wonderful with many home plans to choose from. This is a community where you can do as much or little as you want, be involved as little or as much as you want. There are lush landscaped Texas hill country views everywhere. Your neighbors will be friends for life, you are close to golf courses (with another one being built), tennis courts, exercise center, three pools and more dance classes than you can imagine. For those who don't like any of those activities, there are card games, board games, art classes, woodworking and much much more!If all that is not enough, there is a convenience store, a bank, hair salon, dentist, physical therapy, go...

This week I had two experiences that really brought home the standard we should hold as professionals and what effect it has on the customer.First was an experience at a car dealership. My husband and I were purchasing a new car. As we were waiting on the paperwork, we were sitting in an office and were surprised at the lack of professionalism we saw and heard around us. Sales people both men and women were using dirty language loudly, burping, dressed sloppily and paying absolutely no attention to who might be in the next office and the fact it could have cost a sale. The next experience happened today. We went for lunch in a nice restaurant and were just being seated when a young man in the kitchen let loose with a string of profanity, having no consideration to how loudly it was bein...
