Smithville  Texas has a recycle center that not too many people are aware of.   When I went to drop off my recycle items I thought I would take a few pictures to share with you via video media.  I presort my recycle materials - Plastics 1 & 2, paper, cans so when I drive in I can just efficiently drop them off.  Takes me a couple of minutes and I feel good about keeping the items out of our local landfills.  Video scenes Smithville Recycle Center, Smithville Texas

I was fortunate enough to be at the right place and the right time when the production company began scouting locations for the movie Tree of Life with Brad Pitt.  Their locations department identified my listing at 502 Olive -  a Texas Historical Home  as a potential location for shooting and it was approved.  My listing Clients and I took it off the market during the production.  They also used my listing at 109 Ashley - a beautiful home on the Colorado River for some water shots. In preparing and presenting the rental agreement for 502 Olive I had the opportunity to work with the Locations Manager directly,  and in conversation he mentioned needing some one to clean the "day houses" ( normally Stars have their own trailers!)  and support houses ( Ad, Wardrobe, School, etc., )  on a n...

Great live music this last Saturday night at Rocky Hill, Smithville, TX   Saturday evening my husband and I and another couple went out to Rocky Hill for the evening.  It is a great "undiscovered" spot to go for a cold brew and a burger and some tunes on the weekends.  Saturday night there was a booking error and TWO bands played, which was awesome!  The kitchen was closed as they are renovating, but we could still get an awesome burger from the outside grill.   I was a little disappointed that I couldn't get any fried pickles ( they are the bomb!) but the burger really is filling all by itself! The atmosphere is very relaxed.  Some people came out with their kids who romped around on the big grassy area outside . For all of you mountain bike enthusiasts this is an awesome place to ride...

Hidden gem, a private  lake community outside of Smithville, Texas - Indian Lake If you are looking for a lake community to buy a second home for a summer getaway, or if you are looking for a wonderful year round residence with lake privledges consider Indian Lake.  Located about 7 miles outside of Smithville Texas this little community has a lot to offer if you enjoy canoeing or kayaking or fishing or just the beauty that a lake community offers.   Light covenants, and small annual dues keep this area enjoyable for all of it's residents!  The Shipp Lake is not large enough for power boats but perfect for manually powered water craft, and it is wonderful to throw a pole in!           There is a great little community area that has a party pavillion, a bar b que pavillion, picnic tables,...

This weekend was a busy weekend in Smithville.  There was an antique and art fair, the Jamboree Parade, and lots of people curious to see what "stars" might be out.  There is a movie being filmed in town now and the movie Hope Floats was filmed there, before.I was in town doing a light cleaning of a historic home I have listed for the owners who were out of town.   While I was driving in I passed by so many of the wonderful historic and vintage homes that are in Smithville whos owners have taken advantage of the beautiful spring weather, landscaping their front yards and adding lots of spring color.

One of my former Selling Clients called me to tell me that she had a new addition.  She breeds minature horses and one of her mares had foaled.  As much as I wanted to drop everything to race over and hold the little one...(they are about the size of a toy poodle when they are born and very easy to hold!!!) I had to attend to some business first.  When I got to her ranch in Smithville the little filly was 24 hours old!  Some of these pictures may be a "Bev Doolittle" challenge to decipher, photographer I am not!  Of course in my hurry to get there for some cuddles from this little doll baby I forgot to bring back up rechargable batteries for my digital camera so I had to resort to my Palm Treo.  For those of you who don't know about mini horses the dam of this little filly stands about ...

Lots of people have been bitten by the "move to the country" bug.  Everyone is looking for a little more space, and who can blame them!  I left the city for the countryside.  I completely understand!  Well there is lots of country here in Bastrop County in  Central Texas.  But there are some unwritten, and some written rules, that everyone abides by in the country.  Especially in cattle country.  It is very important when you are considering a move to the countryside to learn as much as you can about what is and is not accepted!  And a good  Buyers Agent should help you to research and  understand the many differences between city and country life.  One big clash that happens time and time again is that people do not understand that when they buy a country place that does not have a fen...

As a little girl I remember my parents taking me to see a live nativity scene during the Holidays and I have never forgotten it. The First United Methodist Church of Smithville, Texas, is presenting "the Journey to Bethlehem" a traveling Nativity. They are inviting us to experience a live nativity in a really unique fashion.  They will have flat bed trailers at Riverbend Park in Smithville that will transport the participants "back in time to witness the portrayal of Mary's and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem" thru a number o narrated scenes accompanied by song. There are several show times scheduled between 6pm and 9pm both Friday and Saturday night and this is free to the public. Grab the family and come see this live nativity!
