My thought of the Woolworth Five and Dime in downtown San Antonio, Texas I remember you could always buy a ton of candy for less then a quarter. We would even collect soda bottles and  they would give you 2 cents for each bottle. Most times the money never left the store because we would head for the row of red twirling stools at the store and order from the menu at the soda fountain. If any of you have doubt about what we kids paid for a coke and a sandwich at Woolworth's in the 1950's and 1960's here's proof of the era we lived........and it was a GREAT ERA. We would ride the bus to downtown with our brown bag full of soda water bottles to cash in so we could go the "Soda Fountain". My favorite was a chocolate coke float. The extra chocolate was free.       ...

King William Historic District The King William Historic District is a 25-block area located south of and adjacent to downtown San Antonio on the east bank of the San Antonio River.  In the 1700s this land was irrigated farm land and belonged to the Mission San Antonio de Valero, which we know as the Alamo. In 1793, the land owned by the mission was divided among the native families who lived there or was sold at public auction.  The King William Neighborhood that we know today was subdivided into lots in the 1860s and laid out with streets which still exist as they originally were.  Many Germans who had immigrated to Texas in the 1840s began to move from smaller settlements into larger towns and many settled in this area which became known as "Sauerkraut Bend."  This German neighborhoo...

I read a story in the newspaper about a homeowner who hired Novastar Energy to install solar panels for her home here in the San Antonio area.  Now she is not only using the solar energy for her own home, she is also selling back solar energy.    Another green method of generating energy for homes is geothermal pumps, great for use in neighborhoods that have restrictive remodeling rules.  By installing green and environmentally friendly products, homeowners can realize true savings in energy costs.  Most people can't afford to spend several thousand dollars for the solar array or geothermal pumps but there are less expensive ways to save money with green techniques, including passive building methods.    Some green features being built into homes include aluminum radiant barrier roof de...

Now we've all experienced this as Realtors, but I feel customers don't really know the reason why we ask this question.  To clarify, the reason we ask the question is based on our Realtor's Code of Ethics.  We are NOT allowed to work with someone that's currently contracted and signed with another Realtor, period.  Now some may not think this is a big issue, by I do.  I have over 20 years experience in the military and ethics have plays a great role in my life and all my past and current careers.  Why would I not feel that way now.  I would love to be your Realtor, but you have to know, if you sign with a Realtor then you have agreed that that's who you want to represent you, whether a buyer or a seller.  If you list with them, please don't ask me to give you advice on your home, that's...

It's only 22 years away but according to a Realty Times acticle I read this week-end, the population trend predictions for the year 2030 are: By 2010 over 40% of all households will be comprised of an age group over 55 years. The Spanish speaking population will more than double - from 31.4 million in 2000 to nearly 65.6 million in 2030. Total US population is estimated at 400 million in 2030. The traditional household (married couple with children) which comprised 90% of households in 1950 will comprise only 65% of households in 2030. 29% of US households will be living alone in 2030. From 2000 to 2030, the U.S. population will grow by 82 million with 72 million of this growth occuring in the South and West. According to the writer, "Much of the projected future growth will be in Texas...

Without any warning, after 16 years, AT&T announced today they would be moving their corporate headquarters to Dallas beginning immediately and completed by the end of the year.  This move will put AT&T closer to their technology suppliers and availability worldwide.  This move will effect about 700 of AT&T's 6,000 based San Antonio employees in the finance, legal and HR departments.
