It seems buyers are waiting...for what exactly I cannot explain. This is the best time for serious buyers to purchase a house.  Inventory is high, interest rates are low, First-Time Home Buyer Tax Credit is available, and you can still buy without having a credit score of 720 and putting 20% down. So why are buyers waiting?  If you are a serious buyer "buy now"!

We have a beagle.  His name is Snoopy.  He knows how to tell time.  I think he should go on Oprah. The reason I think he knows how to tell time is that at night when we go to bed I give him instructions on when it is ok for him to get up the next morning and he always does as I tell him.  I tell him to stay in bed and not get up or wake us up before 7:30 the next morning.  And he does that.  This morning I got up at 7:00 but he stayed in bed 'til 7:30 as instructed. If I forget to tell him, he just gets up whenever he pleases and tries to get us up, too. At first I didn't believe it.  I thought it was a coincidence.  But I have been doing this for several months now and it works!  Whatever works is fine with me.

All Saints Day is November 1st and marks the beginning of the celebration of Dia de los Muertos. Festivities will be held on November 2 at the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park. Families create paper marigolds, skeleton puppets, and fake skulls to celebrate in life all that their loved ones who have passed on once cherished. On November 1st, also known as Dia de los Angelitos, deceased children are honored and remembered. November 2nd, All Souls Day (All Saints Day), is a day of remembrance for the adult dead. Dia de los Muertos combines these days to celebrate the deceased and enjoy their memories. The families of the deceased prepare an altar for the spirits and the spirits are thought to visit their families during this time. The San Antonio Missions National Historical P...

Residential Energy Assistance Partnership (REAP) We have been enjoying gorgeous weather here in San Antonio for several weeks now.  The high today was 74 degrees and the low tonight is expected to be in the mid 40s.  We are fortunate to have mild winters but we do experience some cold weather as well.  A sharp cold front is expected to move in to the area on Monday and residents will probably be using heat in their homes for the first time this season.  With the high cost of everything from gas to groceries, many disadvantaged elderly, disabled, and low income CPS customers will be struggling to pay their bills. CPS Energy has established the Residential Energy Assistance Partnership (REAP), a non-profit foundation that helps families in need pay their utility bills throughout the year ...

I read an article by Ed Levine at the food site Serious Eats and Ed says there are 10 Halloween treats nobody wants.  They are: 1. Toothbrushes - Usually given out by dentists, of course. 2.  Raisins -  When they say trick-or-treat, they want candy that will rot their teeth, not dried grapes. 3.  Candy Corn - "The fruitcake of Halloween." 4.  Smarties and Necco Wafers -  These chalky candies "taste like dust." 5.  Dum Dum Lollipops - "Usually foods on a stick are yummy (corn dogs, ice pops), but Dum Dums just can't be included on that list. Not even if they were breaded and deep-fried and served at a fair." 6.  Apples - Do not give out unwrapped or unsealed treats. 7.  Tootsie Rolls - Too chewy; "will strip the fillings" out of your teeth. 8.  Miscellaneous Wrapped Hard Candies - Hallow...

I stumbled on a ton of ORANGE today.  There was way too much fun being had by young & old alike right down the street off Nacogdoches road (FM 2252).  Right around the corner from our office, RE/MAX Access, the Bracken United Methodist church is having a Pumpkin Patch & they do not mess around when it comes to bringing pumpkins in...   I stopped in for a minute to see how the children were enjoying the Pumpkin Patch.  They have hay rides, picture spots, sitting spots to observe & PUMPKINS galore!  Big ones, small ones, bumpy ones, bright orange ones, dark orange ones & ones that need a little love.  You can walk in, look around, take a few pictures with and even take a pumpkin or two home with you.      According to the Bracken United Methodist Church website income from selling pumpkin...

I believe Davy Crockett said it best in 1836 with "You may all go to Hell and I will go to Texas" Sounds like Forbes.com is agreeing with the American Frontiersman.  Smart move.    Reported recently if you want more "bang for your buck", head to Texas.  San Antonio was number ONE (along with Austin) on Forbes.com's top cities to be in to ride out the nation's financial storm.  Also recommended were Dallas & Houston.  Forbes noted that Texas continues to do well.  It's all a huge thanks to energy, technology and growth manufacturing.  Obviously, a winning combination.    San Antonio was among the top 10 cities due to it's reputation of where a residents money can last longer.  San Antonio's housing is still very affordable & there are many promising prospects for job growth in the coming...

San Antonio got a very special H-E-B added today at 8503 N.W. Military Highway.  Called the H-E-B Alon (which means oak in Hebrew) it opened it's doors this morning at 6 a.m..   Said to be San Antonio's   with everything from the basics to the biggest kosher selections in town.  At 128,000 squre feet "food emporium" which is said to have the biggest selection of kosher foods in town.   The newest H-E-B came at the expense of two other stores closing (Huebner Road & Lockhill Selma) which wasn't favorable to some but is expected to be a benefit for most.  Some of the employees from the closed stores were transferred to the newest H-E-B location.   There is another H-E-B expected to open it's next store, an H-E-B plus at 281 & Evans Road October 28th.  To read the full article on this exc...

Here are the sales statistics for San Antonio during the third quarter from 2004 to 2008. The number of single family residential properties sold is much lower than in 2004, but the list prices and sale prices are much higher. The sales price to list price ratio is a bit lower too, and homes are staying on the market longer.
